Chapter 1081 A Hard Slap on David's Face
"Alright." Cassie finally sighed. After all, Sophia and Oliver were her treasures.
Joseph's eyes lit up with joy. "I'll have Rosalind buy more groceries and make your favorite dishes."
Cassie rolled her eyes at him.
They were already divorced. If she was still going to the Hernandez family for dinner, what would people think of her?
"Rosalind always talks about you," Joseph said enthusiastically, ignoring her look, "She misses you a lot."
Cassie felt a warmth in her heart. Back then, Rosalind always helped her. "Is Rosalind still there?"
"She's always been there. After the Hernandez House was sold, many of the servants resigned, but Rosalind stayed. She considers the Hernandez family her home." Joseph bent down to fasten her seatbelt.
Seeing her a bit distracted, Joseph took the opportunity to kiss on her lips.
"Peach-flavored lipstick." Joseph raised an eyebrow, his business elite demeanor making it hard to believe he would do such a thing.
Cassie's cheeks flushed.
She felt utterly powerless against Joseph. "Hurry up. I have an early meeting."
Joseph's eyes brightened. He thought she would glare at him or scold him.
Unexpectedly, nothing happened.
Was she getting used to it?
Was this a good thing?
"Honey, I'll make sure to get you to the office within half an hour." Joseph happily got into the driver's seat.
Cassie gritted her teeth. "Joseph, don't call me that."
"Then, will you marry me?" Joseph retorted.
"Are you dreaming?" Cassie shot back sarcastically.
Joseph shrugged with a smile.
Cassie simply closed her eyes.
When they arrived at the office, Joseph drove straight into the parking lot.
Suddenly, a blue sports car sped towards them.
Cassie looked up and saw that it was David's car.
Joseph's eyebrows furrowed, but he remained calm, not dodging or flinching as the car approached.
Just as the car was about to hit them, the blue sports car came to a sudden stop.
David slammed the door and got out, his face filled with rage. He strode to the passenger side and yanked the door open. "Cassie, get out. You're still not divorced, and you're already with Joseph. It's disgusting."
"David, are you looking for a fight?" Joseph immediately got out of the car and grabbed David's wrist. "Alright, you like hitting people, don't you? You even beat Cassie until she was bruised. Come on, fight me today. Let's see how tough you really are."
"Joseph, who do you think you are? You're not worth my time." David tried to shake him off, but Joseph's grip was unyielding. His expression darkened. "Joseph, let go."
"If you want me to let go, sure, show me your face. The way you hit Cassie that day, I'll return it the same way today." Joseph's eyes flashed with cold anger. "David, you were pretty arrogant just now. If I hadn't shown up today, were you planning to hit Cassie again? Do you enjoy slapping people that much?"
With that, he slapped David hard across the face.
David hadn't expected Joseph to hit him and was momentarily stunned. When his face started to burn with pain, he was furious.
"Joseph, how dare you hit me? You're asking for it." David swung his other hand at Joseph.
Joseph caught his hand and unexpectedly kneed him hard.
David bent over in pain, and Joseph pressed him against the car hood, making one side of his face face up, then slapped him again. "Your face is really tough. No wonder you like to act all sentimental while secretly having an affair with Lola. Only someone as shameless as you could have done such a thing."
"Joseph, I won't let you get away with this," David shouted, his eyes filled with malice.
"Good. I wanted to say the same to you. David, from the moment you dared hit Cassie, our feud was never-ending." Joseph slapped David several more times.
Cassie watched in shock. Although she used to dislike men slapping others, she had to admit Joseph was quite impressive.
She finally understood that there was a significant difference between men and women in strength.
Seeing David's face swell up, she quickly pulled Joseph away. "That's enough. There are cameras everywhere. If this escalates, we'll be at fault."
"You're right. I did fight, so I'm at fault. I'll turn myself in." Joseph nonchalantly took out his phone and put it on speaker. "Hello, police? I'd like to turn myself in. I just encountered a lunatic who almost hit us with his car. He scared me stiff. After he got out, he started smashing my car and cursing my companion. I got angry and slapped him a few times. I think I was wrong, so I'm turning myself in."
Cassie burst out laughing, thinking, 'No wonder Joseph is a lawyer; his words were sharp and concise when reporting the incident. He drives David crazy.'
The police on the other end paused. "You were indeed wrong, but turning yourself in is the right thing to do. Since you have a good attitude, let's settle this privately."
"Yes, so do I," Joseph said in a good citizen tone, "I can compensate him with $10,000. That should be more than enough for his facial injury, and the rest can be for emotional damages."
The police agreed. "Ten thousand dollars is quite a lot."
"Yes, but he's not an ordinary person. I'm afraid he'll cause me trouble." Joseph sighed.
"What's his identity?" The police asked, puzzled.
"He is David. By the way, my name is Joseph," Joseph answered politely.
The police didn't know what to say for a moment, pondering, 'Joseph and David? Are they the same Joseph and David making headlines recently?'
"I'm telling the truth about the incident. I didn't lie. I can submit the surveillance footage later. I'm a law-abiding citizen." After calmly hanging up, Joseph took out a pen from his pocket, wrote a check, and threw it at David's face. "You heard it just now, right? The police said $10,000 is more than enough."
"Joseph, just wait. I'll make you pay the price." David was trembling with anger.
He hadn't been humiliated like this in a long time. However, Joseph humiliated him in this way!
Joseph blinked and looked him up and down before pulling Cassie aside. "Cassie, is he sick? He's shaking like that. Is he insane?"
