Chapter 1558 The One Who Kidnapped Megan Was Me
Megan was feeling pretty down, but she still managed to put on a smile. "It's okay, we can always make more money. I believe in you. But I think you should give me that amount. I'm worried if you spend all our money, we'll struggle to get by. Michael, honestly, I want to see a doctor abroad. I still want to have a baby with you."
Her eyes started to well up. "I want to be a mom."
Michael frowned and stayed quiet for a bit. He thought about how if it wasn't for Laura, Megan wouldn't have lost her chance to be a mother. Finally, he handed her the other card. "Go get treated."
"Michael, I'll get better, right? We'll have a baby, right?" Megan suddenly threw herself into his arms.
Her legs weren't in great shape, so Michael had to hold her.
Megan cried for a while, then suddenly kissed his chin. "Michael, tonight's our wedding night. You never wanted to make love to me before. I know I looked scary, but now my face is healed. Do you think I look good?"
She looked at him with so much love.
Michael had just nodded when she kissed him and started unbuttoning his shirt.
He wasn't really in the mood, but he knew if he didn't go through with it, Megan might start crying again. He knew exactly what she'd say.
He didn't want to hear it anymore, so he just went through the motions. But his body wasn't responding to Megan, and no matter what she did, he couldn't get it up.
"Michael, do you secretly despise me?" Megan broke down in tears.
"No. I'm just really tired lately," Michael said weakly. "And I have health issues. It was the same with Laura. You know, when Laura got pregnant, it was because of your brother's scheme. After she got pregnant, we always slept in separate rooms."
Megan was stunned and didn't quite believe it. "But you weren't like this before."
"The time you got pregnant? I was drunk and don't remember anything," Michael explained tiredly.
Megan remembered the last time; she had to work hard for a long time to get him aroused.
Could it be that he really had a problem?
Thinking about this, Megan felt awful. She had been with many men, and at her age, she had a strong sex drive. She had been lonely for too long.
"Why don't you have a drink?" Megan murmured.
"Maybe another day, okay? I'm really too tired today." Michael dodged into the bathroom.
Megan angrily threw a pillow on the floor.
She regretted coming back to the country. She should have found a man abroad; it would have been better than finding Michael, who was useless and broke.
Unfortunately, her legs were inconvenient now.
Since the wedding, Michael had been finding excuses to come home late to avoid Megan.
One night, he got an invite to a dinner party. He didn't really need to attend, but not wanting to go home and face Megan, he decided to go anyway.
In the past, when Michael walked in, people would flock to him. But times had changed. People only exchanged pleasantries with him before moving on to more influential business moguls. Even the lesser-known celebrities didn't try to cozy up to him.
After greeting the host, Michael made his way to a corner sofa.
As he sat down, he overheard two lesser-known celebrities chatting behind a screen.
"The guy in the blue suit earlier was so handsome, even better looking than some male celebrities. He dressed so elegantly. I wonder which wealthy businessman he is," one woman said.
"That's Michael," the other one replied.
"From the Jude family?" the first one asked.
"Keep your voice down. Yeah, it's him. But don't get your hopes up about getting close to Michael. The Jude family has already cut him off, and he's been stripped of his inheritance rights," the other one emphasized.
"Even if Michael's been cut off, he's still from the Jude family. If you get him as a sugar daddy, you can rely on his connections and resources," the first one retorted.
"You're dreaming. Even if you find a sugar daddy, you need someone with a bit of humanity. Michael has none. He's terrible. His wife had just given birth, and he was already cheating on her. He even divorced his wife for his mistress, leaving her with nothing. And after the divorce, he gave his mistress a lavish wedding. It's said that he loves his mistress so much he'd die for her. They've been entangled for over a decade," the other one explained.
"Well, if he treats his wife like that, I probably wouldn't get much money from him as a sugar daddy. Forget it," the first one said, disappointed.
Michael chuckled softly and took a big sip from his wine glass.
He never thought he'd fall so low that even fame-seeking celebrities wouldn't look up to him.
Because he was too heartless, he wasn't even qualified to be a sugar daddy.
When did he fall to this level?
With an elegant voice, Bernice walked over, her black strapless dress showing off her slender figure. "Michael, long time no see. Why are you drinking alone here?"
Michael looked up at her indifferently. "What's up?"
"Michael, you're so cold," Bernice said with a faint smile. "Is it because after getting married, Megan controls you so strictly that you don't even dare to chat with women outside?"
"Bernice, you're not here to chat. You're here to scold me for Laura, right?" Michael stood up and put his phone in his pocket. "Sorry, I've been scolded a lot lately. I don't want to be scolded anymore."
"Michael, you misunderstood me. I just want to tell you something about Laura." Bernice picked up an untouched glass of wine from the table and swirled it.
Michael froze, his long legs stopping involuntarily. "What about her?"
Could it be that Laura was upset because of his recent wedding?
In that moment, many thoughts flashed through Michael's mind.
At this point, if Laura was upset, what could he do? If it weren't for her past mistakes, they wouldn't have ended up like this.
He wasn't happy either.
Bernice took a sip of wine and slowly said, "She's fine. But there's something you might not know. It wasn't Laura who kidnapped Megan back then. It was me."
Michael's body shook, and he turned around abruptly, "What?"
