Chapter 106

""Luke's gaze shot daggers at the speaker. A female manager stood up and said unapologetically:
""Did I speak wrongly? Everybody in Madison knows how the president of our company ceremoniously dumped his long-time girlfriend in hopes of courting the heir to Height Company. He's even walking over her to bolster his reputation as a romantic hero—an absolute disgrace to the Lewis Group.""
""That's right, Mr. Lewis, you need to discipline your son. He’s not fit for his title,"" another shareholder chimed in towards Luke's father.

Humiliated, Mr. Lewis replied icily, ""Arthur, you’ll step down from your CEO role for now. Pete will take over. You’re to withdraw from all company projects.""

Luke was in disbelief. ""Dad...""

""You've disappointed me."" His father left the room.

After the meeting, Pete approached Luke with a sly grin. ""Big brother, don’t worry. I'll take good care of the company. You can take it easy in logistics.""
Once Pete left the conference room, he heard a loud crash behind him and smirked knowingly.

...

the Lewis Group was undergoing a revolution, and the news spread like wildfire throughout Madison's elite circles.

Olivia Brooks, halfway across the world, nearly dropped her teacup upon hearing the news. But she held back, flinging herself into her mother Helen's arms. ""Mom, what do we do now? Arthur is no longer the Lewis Group's heir or CEO.""

Holding her daughter, Helen felt a pang of heartache. Her daughter was so unfortunate—such a scandal just after her engagement.
""It's all Cassie Brooks's fault. She'll pay for this one day.""

Brooks glanced at the mother and daughter. ""We'll find another fiance for her. My daughter deserves only the finest suitor in Madison.""
""But everyone knows Arthur is my fiancé,"" Olivia Brooks said, her voice laced with sorrow, ""If I distance myself from him now, people will talk.""
Brooks gave her a knowing smile. ""If he's been keeping his ties with Cassie Brooks without your knowledge, nobody could blame you for it.""

After speaking, he pulled out his phone and flicked through a few photos—it was a shot of Arthur Lewis holding onto Cassie Brooks's hand outside the entrance to Garden Height.

Olivia Brooks's eyes sparkled with excitement. ""Dad, when did you take these? You're amazing.""

""The moment I learned about Wit Group pulling his investment, I knew I had to have something up my sleeve,"" Brooks beamed with pride—experience always comes with age.

Meanwhile, in Madison.

Cassie Brooks didn't hear about the drama until later that evening from Laura Miller.

""Finally, that jerk got what he deserved,"" Laura Miller exclaimed, wrapping Cassie Brooks in a hug. ""Thank goodness for Uncle!""

Cassie Brooks frowned. ""Don't mention him to me. He gives me a headache.""

""Hehe,"" the instigator Laura Miller bashfully changed the subject. ""Do you think Olivia Brooks will be livid?""

""She won't drop dead from anger, but I bet she'll distance herself from Arthur Lewis soon enough.""

Laura Miller blinked her innocent eyes in disbelief. ""No way! Didn't she genuinely like him?""

Cassie Brooks just smiled wryly. ""For someone like her, who stops at nothing, benefits always take precedence. Plus, my parents are social climbers. Without his heir status, Arthur Lewis will soon be cast aside.""

""Serves him right! Anyway, this calls for a celebration. Let's hit the bars tonight and party hard,"" Laura Miller suggested eagerly, tugging at her hand.

Cassie Brooks agreed, ready for a night out—it had been too long since she'd let loose. But just as she was leaving, her phone rang; it was Joseph. She glanced at the caller ID and hit 'decline.'

Shortly after, a video message arrived.

Dakota was in agony, writhing in pain with pitiful meows, a wet patch spread beneath it.

Cassie Brooks's heart ached upon watching, and she promptly redialed.
