Chapter 1038 Are You Joseph's Ex?
"Of course not, I'm not that dumb. But what's up with Joseph and Marigold? Did he really hook up with her?" Laura blinked and glanced over at the pool.
Over there, a bunch of Marigold's friends, all in their early twenties, were hanging out. Marigold had brought Joseph over, and they were having a blast.
"How would I know? It's none of my business," Cassie looked a bit taken aback and urged. "Alright, go find Derek."
"Okay." Laura quickly left.
On the long table in the garden, there were lots of pastries and juices.
Just as she picked up a glass of juice, Lydia walked over. She looked about twenty, with heavy makeup on her face.
"Are you Joseph's ex?" Lydia introduced herself. "I'm Lydia, Marigold's good friend. Ma'am, I'm here to warn you. Joseph has caught Marigold's eye, so you better stay away from him."
Cassie raised an eyebrow, took a sip of her juice, and then smiled as she looked Lydia up and down. "Are you only ten years old?"
Lydia was stunned for a moment, not understanding, and Cassie laughed. "You called me Ma'am, so I thought you were only ten. After all, I'm only in my twenties."
Lydia sneered. "Really? Sorry, I couldn't tell. You look older than your age."
"It's not that I look old; it's that you're too immature," Cassie calmly retorted. She had been through too much to be bothered by such a low-level opponent.
"Who's immature?"
"Your style is quite unique," Cassie interrupted her, her tone lazy. "People online usually call your kind of youth a knockoff punk."
"You actually insulted me." Lydia was furious. "Do you know who I am?"
"Don't slander me. I didn't insult you. I just told you what people online say," Cassie said indifferently. "Besides, I have money and good looking. I don't rely on your family. Do I need to care about you?"
After saying that, Cassie couldn't be bothered with Lydia anymore and walked away.
But she was still angry, not at Lydia or Marigold, but at Joseph. They were already divorced, yet someone was still causing trouble for her because of Joseph.
Lydia angrily went back to tell Marigold, "Cassie has a sharp tongue, Marigold. You have to teach her a lesson."
"How can I teach her a lesson? She's good friends with Laura," Marigold said irritably.
"They're just friends. She's not related to the Jude family. The Dixon family and the Jude family are different; you're real allies," another friend egged her on.
Marigold's brow furrowed slightly, and she suddenly saw Joseph turning to leave out of the corner of her eye.
She quickly chased after him and grabbed him. "Joseph, where are you going? You still have to help me cut the cake later."
"I'm going to the bathroom. Do you want to come with me?" Joseph's patience with Marigold was wearing thin.
"Sure." Marigold nodded boldly.
Joseph's mouth twitched, and he couldn't be bothered with her, turning to leave.
However, Marigold relentlessly followed him. "Joseph, you're not going to find Cassie, are you?"
"Ms. Dixon." Joseph turned back, his voice icy. "You should know why I'm here. If I'd known saving you that day would lead to this, I wouldn't have bothered."
Marigold's eyes welled up. "I just like you so much, Joseph. This is the first time I've chased after a man like this."
"Sorry, but plenty of women have chased after me." Joseph's handsome face was full of mockery.
"But I'm different from those women," Marigold insisted. "I'm Ralph's daughter. If you're with me, you'll rise quickly. Can't you see how many people want to curry favor with me? Joseph, you're smart. You should seize the opportunity."
"My success has never depended on a woman," Joseph said coldly and walked away without looking back.
Marigold cried in frustration, but as she watched Joseph's tall, cold figure, she liked him even more.
He was different from the men she had met. She liked Joseph's proud and strong aura, which was innate.
"What's wrong? Who bullied you?" Ralph walked over. Ralph only had one daughter, so Marigold was his apple of the eye.
"Dad, Joseph doesn't like me." Marigold pouted. "Can you help me? I want to have him."
"He dares to look down on my daughter?" Ralph's face darkened. "Marigold, why don't you find someone else? I admit Joseph is charming, but he's not what he used to be. Now, he's not good enough for you, especially since he's divorced."
"Dad, you can't say that. I don't think Joseph will fall so easily. He's a capable man." Marigold disagreed. "A capable man just needs a little help to rise again. Besides, he's not an ordinary person."
Ralph was slightly moved.
Seeing this, Marigold clung to Ralph's arm. "Dad, Joseph has a good relationship with the Jude family. I know you all want me to be with Derek, but Derek doesn't like me, and Derek is too immature. In terms of scheming and insight, how many men in Madison can compare to Joseph? Besides, Joseph's failure was due to being plotted against. Everyone knows that. He might even help you become president one day."
"Don't talk nonsense." Ralph nervously glared at her.
Marigold said meaningfully, "Next year, you'll be vice president. Don't you want a promotion? You can't support Carl forever."
"Alright, do what you want. I won't stop you, but Joseph isn't someone you can easily get. I heard he still has feelings for Cassie."
"Never mind. She's already married. Dad, as long as you agree, I can get him," Marigold said confidently.
"Do as you please." Ralph couldn't be bothered with her anymore.
After Ralph left, Marigold secretly called over a Dixon family servant. "Put this in Joseph's drink later."
After returning from the garden, Cassie stayed quietly by David's side.
Her constant presence made David feel constrained for the first time. He had many people to please tonight, and Cassie's presence made him very uncomfortable.
