Chapter 578

"You want to imprison me?" Cassie's voice was tinged with a manic edge. The notion was absurd, outrageous even. Joseph, the father of her unborn children, was not only planning to hand over their offspring to Megan but also intended to confine her. The question hung heavy in the air, was Joseph even human anymore?

"What right do you have? This is against the law, I'll call the police," Cassie threatened, her hand darting to her phone. But before she could dial, Joseph seized it, smashing it into the ground with a force that echoed his fury.

" Cassie, I offered you a chance, yet you chose to involve yourself with David," Joseph's voice was laced with an inexplicable rage, perhaps a manifestation of his bruised male ego.

"And what gives you the right to judge me?" Cassie retorted, her voice sharp. "You've been unfaithful in your own marriage. Don't think I don't know that you've slept together long ago."

"Even if I have, what of it?" Joseph's words were biting, his tone venomous. "Take a good look at yourself, Cassie. Your twisted, grotesque reflection. How could you ever compare to Megan?"

His words were like a knife, each syllable cutting deeper than the last. Cassie's hand drifted to her marred face, the physical reminder of her past. A wave of pain washed over her, a torrent of agony that seemed to have no end.

Who had promised her that her disfigurement wouldn't matter? Who had sworn to look past her physical scars? And yet now, he deemed her repugnant, monstrous. Had Joseph forgotten the role he played in her disfigurement?

"If you intend to give our children to Megan, I'd rather leap from this building," Cassie's voice was resolute, her pale face set in a mask of determination.

"Then jump," Joseph's voice was icy, his words chilling. "But if you so much as harm our children, I promise you, your friend and your father will join you in the grave."

With that, he stormed out, the door slamming shut behind him with a resounding thud. Cassie rushed forward, only to be met with the harsh reality of her imprisonment. The door was locked from the outside. She was trapped.

Cassie slumped to the floor, a broken doll in a gilded cage. Despite Joseph's cruelty, she had never truly despised him. She had convinced herself that he was merely under Megan's hypnotism. But now, the hatred bubbled up within her, a bitter poison that tainted her heart. She loathed Nathan, despised Megan, detested Joseph, and abhorred Michael.

If it hadn't been for Joseph's foolishness, Megan wouldn't have been able to manipulate him. It was Joseph's incessant yearning for Megan that had led them to this point. It was Joseph who had allowed Nathan to harm Laura and David without remorse. Now, not only had Nathan escaped the law's grasp, but Cassie found herself imprisoned.

The thought of Nathan, once freed from the police's custody, escalating his harm towards her friends was unbearable. She despised Joseph, who had made her so happy, only to cruelly cast her aside. One day, the pain that she, Laura, and Nina had endured would be repaid tenfold.

In the afternoon, a stranger was sent to care for Cassie. Rosalind and Joe, her previous caretakers, had been reassigned. Cassie spent her days confined within the two-story house, her only respite being the television or the occasional breath of fresh air from the balcony.

Sometimes, as she peered over the edge of the balcony, the thought of ending it all crossed her mind. But each time, she found the strength to endure, the babies growing within her a beacon of hope amidst her despair.
