Chapter 1260: Isn't Mr. Hernandez's life a life too?

"Oh, okay." Cassie turned the page, "The big bad wolf followed the footprints and suddenly saw something in the pond ahead."

The story wasn't finished yet.

Her phone, lying on the bed, rang. It was Joel.

"Ms. Brooks, Mr. Hernandez is in trouble. I'm taking him to the hospital now."

Joel's anxious voice came through. Cassie's heart skipped a beat. She asked, "What happened to him? Didn't he go to Isaac's house tonight?"

"It happened at Isaac's house. Please come to Nelson Hospital first." Joel was also very anxious and hung up after a few words.

"Mommy, what's wrong with Daddy?" Sophia's face turned pale with fear.

Oliver, usually cool as a cucumber, looked super serious. "Mommy, we'll go with you."

Cassie said, "It's too late now. I won't have the energy to take care of you both. Stay home for now. I'll go first and find out what's going on. If your dad's condition is serious, I'll have Nathaniel bring you over. If not, you can come in the morning."

Cassie looked at her two small children, forcing herself to calm down quickly.

"Mommy, we—"

"Listen to me." Cassie's beautiful face was filled with anxiety and seriousness.

Seeing this, Oliver and Sophia pursed their lips and said nothing.

Cassie quickly drove to the hospital. On the way, she notified Cameron and Mabel.

When she hurried to the hospital, Joel, Isaac, and Yvonne were all waiting at the entrance of the emergency room. Everyone looked grim, and Isaac and Yvonne had a guilty look when they saw her.

"Joel, what exactly happened?" Cassie didn't look at Isaac and Yvonne but asked Joel.

Before Joel could speak, Isaac already said guiltily, "I'm sorry, it's all our fault. David kidnapped Richard. He said if I didn't lure Joseph to our villa, he would kill Richard."

Yvonne's lips trembled as she said, "We didn't mean to harm him. David said he just wanted to talk to Joseph, and he didn't bring anyone with him. We don't know how Joseph got hurt. Don't glare at us. After all, we were dragged into this because of you. We don't even know David well. If it weren't for your trouble, Richard wouldn't have been kidnapped. He's already traumatized. Do you want him to lose his life too?"

"Your son's life is precious, but Mr. Hernandez's life isn't?" Joel couldn't hold back anymore.

Cassie also found it extremely grating. She never particularly liked Isaac and Yvonne, but she didn't dislike them either. At least, she had a better impression of them than Celeste.

For recent events, she realized how jealous and selfish this couple was.

They had sold the Hernandez Group to their enemies early on. Now that Joseph was in trouble, they were only thinking about shirking responsibility.

Yvonne retorted, "We didn't expect him to get hurt. He's so skilled. Who knew he couldn't handle even David?"

"Shut up." Cassie's cold gaze swept over.

The chill she exuded made Yvonne inexplicably fearful, but when she came to her senses, she shouted in shame and anger, "What right do you have to tell me to shut up? I'm your elder."

"But you, as an elder, have no sense of shame." Cassie's beautiful face was full of anger. She said, "I don't want to argue with you. I just want to know, have you called the police? Has Richard returned? Where is David? How did Joseph get hurt?"

She threw out a bunch of questions, but Yvonne was speechless.

Isaac finally said, "Richard's back. On the way to the hospital, the butler called me and said he came back on his own. When the butler asked him, he said someone took him to play hide and seek. Given this, it's hard for us to call the police. He was only missing for an afternoon."

Cassie got it. David had pulled a fast one on Richard, and since he was only gone for a few hours, the cops wouldn't bother. "So, when Joseph got hurt, David was there, right?"

Isaac opened his mouth but didn't know what to say.

Joel said in a low voice, "When Mr. Hernandez got hurt, David was on the roof looking at the moon. They didn't even meet."

Cassie felt like she was losing it. "Then how did he get hurt?"

Joel smiled bitterly, "Mr. Hernandez actually guessed that Richard might have been kidnapped, so he had me and some men wait outside. He said if he didn't contact me within half an hour, we should burst in. When I did, the lights in the house were off. I found Mr. Hernandez lying on the floor, his forehead covered in blood. He was already out cold. I brought him to the hospital. On the way, I checked his injuries. There were no signs of a struggle, and the only wound was on his forehead. It shouldn't be too serious."

Cassie didn't feel relieved; instead, she found the situation even more bizarre. "Why were the lights off in the house?"

Joel looked at Isaac and his wife.

Isaac said awkwardly, "I really don't know. There were only two of them. I thought Joseph could handle them easily."

"Two people?"

"David and his female secretary," Yvonne added. "Cassie, don't tell your grandparents about this. Joseph only has a minor injury. We're taking Richard abroad for treatment tomorrow. We won't get involved in your matters anymore."

Cassie was fuming.

Although she admitted that these two indeed had no grudge against David and were somewhat implicated by her and Joseph. But as Joseph's relatives, they were too selfish.

"Take Richard and leave. I don't want to see you again. From now on, let's lead separate lives. Don't contact Joseph anymore," Cassie said coldly.

She didn't want Joseph to have any relationship with these two people anymore. They were always around when things were good, but the first to run away when trouble came. They were such relatives we didn't need.

"You—" Yvonne was very upset.

"Enough, let's go." Isaac pulled his wife away, knowing he was in the wrong.

As they left, Cassie could still hear Yvonne's voice from down the hallway, "It's just a forehead injury. Is it really that serious? She is making a fuss over nothing."

"This is outrageous," Joel said and clenched his fists in anger.

"Forget it," Cassie sighed.

"Ms. Brooks, don't worry. Mr. Hernandez will be fine," Joel comforted.

"Let's hope so," Cassie said, but she was very uneasy inside.

David went to such lengths to lure Joseph over, just to make him fall down the stairs?
