Chapter 1734 Nina Loves You Very Much
"Lucas."
Megan's lifeless eyes finally sparked with a glimmer of hope.
"Lucas, I was wrong. I know I was wrong during this time. We grew up together. Please, save me. I don't want to die."
Megan clutched the phone and cried. If it weren't for the glass between them, she would have knelt to beg him.
Lucas just looked at her with indifferent eyes the entire time.
After a minute, under Lucas's gaze, Megan felt despair again.
She shouldn't have hoped for anything from Lucas.
Among Joseph, Michael, and Lucas, only Lucas was cold to the bone.
"Are you done crying?" Lucas asked gently.
Megan was unwilling and pleaded, "Lucas, I promise you, as long as you save me, I will stay far away from Madison. I promise I won't go against you all anymore."
"I came just to clarify some things," Lucas said, not wanting to listen to her ramble any longer. "During the trial, Nathan said you targeted Nina a lot. What did you do to her?"
Megan was stunned, her pupils dilated in shock as she looked at Lucas through the glass.
After what seemed like a long silence, she suddenly started laughing softly like a madwoman. "So, you came specifically for Nina. I didn't expect that, didn't expect it at all."
"Go on," Lucas said, crossing his legs and reminding her calmly.
"Fine, but only if you pull some strings to save me, even if it's just to lift the death penalty," Megan said. "I know a lot of things."
Lucas chuckled lightly. "You want to negotiate with me? Do you think you're in a position to?"
"Don't you want to know about Nina? She loved you," Megan said softly.
"Alright," Lucas responded nonchalantly. "There are some things I'm just curious about. It's not to the point where I must know. Your death is inevitable. I can't make Joseph's family unhappy for your sake. But I hate it when people overestimate themselves and try to negotiate with me. Let me remind you, there are many painful ways to die."
Megan suddenly shivered, looking at Lucas as if he were a demon.
After a long time, she completely gave up hope.
Since she was destined to die, she wouldn't let those who lived have it easy.
He wanted answers, so she would tell him everything.
"Fine, I'll tell you everything."
Lucas adjusted his sitting position and waited quietly. "You said she loved me?"
"Nina loved you."
Megan was suddenly curious if her next words would make the cold Lucas lose his composure. "When Nina was brought to our house by her mother, Nathan and I often secretly gave her trouble. Even at school, I spread rumors that her mom was an adulteress, causing no one at school to like her. So, from childhood to adulthood, she was often alone until you, Michael, and Joseph came to my house to play that one time."
"Do you remember? That time she got a cramp while swimming in the pool, and you saved her."
Lucas didn't speak.
He had a good memory and remembered everything Megan said.
When Lucas first met Nina, he was nineteen, and she was sixteen, in the prime of their youth.
Before meeting Nina, he had heard she had a half-sister.
He didn't particularly dislike her, nor was he very curious about her.
But when Lucas pulled her out of the water that time, Nina's clear eyes were filled with panic. Her youthful yet slightly curvy figure clung tightly to him in the water, and young Lucas had a natural male reaction.
"Lucas, you can be cold-hearted, but when you're gentle with a girl, you're truly gentle."
Megan continued softly, "You were so good-looking, young, and gentle, making the naive Nina quickly fall for you. Later, every time you came to our house, you brought her treats and cared for her. Even when we went out to play, you always subtly reminded me to bring her along. I could tell you liked her, but why? You were my friend, so excellent, yet you liked Nina, the person I hated the most."
Lucas nodded. "Alright, go on."
Lucas's gentle tone was hard to read.
"Later, when you two started dating, I always subtly sowed discord between you. Joseph and Michael trusted me, and because they trusted me, you gradually began to believe that Nina was a scheming, vain woman, just like her mother, who liked to seduce men."
Since she was going to die anyway, Megan didn't want to hide anything anymore. Lucas's questions showed that Nina always held a special place in his heart.
But Nina was dead.
What could Lucas do after learning the truth?
Megan felt bitter and wanted some people to live in pain and regret forever. "Did you always think Nina betrayed your relationship, that she was with you only for your status, and that she was a promiscuous woman?"
Lucas's thin lips pressed tightly together, and his deep eyes behind the glasses stared at Megan.
Megan shook her head. "Nina wasn't like that. The diary you found in her room was written by me, imitating her handwriting."
Lucas was momentarily stunned, then laughed softly.
He had always thought that Joseph and Michael were foolish, played by Megan. It turned out he was no exception.
The diary was found when Nina was eighteen.
It said Nina didn't love him, that she approached him because he was the son of the Nelson family and Megan's friend. Having him as a boyfriend could hurt Megan and take away her dignity.
It also mentioned that her true love was a classmate named Kimball Church from her senior year, but she didn't think much of him because he was less well-off.
At the time, Lucas believed it. He even wanted to tear Nina's heart out.
He felt like a fool, played by Nina.
He deliberately invited Nina out after her senior exams and coaxed her into having sex for the first time that night.
He pretended to be deeply in love, but behind the scenes, he no longer treated her the same. He just saw her as a plaything.
She didn't realize it. She thought he genuinely liked her.
Until that summer, he saw her hugging a male classmate and entering a hotel after a class reunion.
