Chapter 299

""You deceitful woman! Remember, this was all your doing!"" Joseph declared and planted a fierce kiss on her.

Faced with his relentless advance, Cassie's attempts to push him away were futile.

She knew it had to stop; she couldn't betray David like this.

She bit him hard out of desperation. Joseph winced as his lip bled from the bite.

Cassie seized the moment to push him away, her face a portrait of vulnerability and helplessness. ""Joseph, if you force me, I'll bash my head against the tub!""

""Go ahead,"" Joseph replied coldly. ""I'll call Mr. Chapman tomorrow and tell him his daughter tried to seduce me but, ashamed by rejection, she took her own life.""

Cassie was speechless.

Her eyes reddened with tears; she couldn't fathom why such a despicable man wouldn't leave her alone.

""Joseph, I hate you!"" she screamed at him, slapping his shoulders.

Joseph looked down at her; the fiery woman in his arms looked like a little girl throwing a tantrum at her boyfriend.

""Enough, shut up!""

...

Over ten minutes later, Cassie emerged from the bathroom, utterly chaotic.
Joseph watched her retreating figure, a satisfied smile curving at the corner of his mouth.

Ten minutes later, as he tied his bathrobe and descended the stairs, he caught sight of Cassie standing by the washing machine. Her drenched clothes were being washed and dried, and she had slipped into one of his oversized shirts, having foregone the pants altogether because they were too large for her.

A subtle gulp was his only response.

""Go and wash my clothes, too,"" Joseph casually ordered from behind her.

Cassie’s face turned red. No matter how much she tried to stay calm and composed, being around him never made her feel at ease.

""Do you have to blush that much?"" Joseph teased, noticing her ears burn bright. ""You've been way closer with David.""

Cassie's blush vanished completely, irritation replacing the warmth. Joseph always had a knack for getting under her skin, making her blood boil without any effort.

He wouldn't believe she hadn't been that close with anyone before.

Silently, she ascended the stairs, soon returning with his laundry in hand.

""My clothes need to be handwashed,"" Joseph mentioned. His words sounded as light as a feather. ""I won't wear them if they're machine-washed.""

“What?”

She cursed him under her breath and took the clothing to the bathroom. Handwashing wasn't exactly her forte, and washing a man's clothes, especially an entire outfit, was a first for her.

Joseph glanced at her profile from the living room, a flicker of tenderness crossing his otherwise cold eyes. She felt like a wife tending to her husband's needs on a night like this.

His house had finally begun to smell like home.
