Chapter 1588 Be Someone Who Doesn't Need to Work Hard
"No need, right?" Laura was shocked.
A suit made him think of being a groom. That was quite a leap in thought.
Derek said, "You never thought about marrying me one day?"
Laura was stunned and said, "What if I said I never thought about it?"
"Then I'll just have to keep trying," Derek chuckled softly, "If I haven't made you want to marry me, that's definitely my fault."
Laura's heart instantly felt sweet and a bit touched. "I'm not lying to you, I just got divorced not long ago and was deeply hurt in that relationship. I can't easily step into marriage again, at least not for the next two years. Are you willing to wait?"
"Luckily, I'm still young," Derek said confidently, "In two years, I'll only be twenty-eight. For a man, that's the age of maturity and charm. If you're not in a hurry, why should I be?"
Laura glared at him. "But I'm warning you, if you ever do anything to betray me, I definitely won't forgive you. No chatting or dating other women."
"Am I crazy? I've already had a rich woman who is willing to buy me a watch worth hundreds of thousands of dollars. Why would I need to find another woman? Are they as beautiful as you? Who else can give me a buy-one-get-one-free deal, with such an adorable little baby as the bonus? Isn't that right, Maeve?"
Derek gently patted Maeve's little head.
Maeve, who was being ignored, didn't cry or fuss. She just kept rolling and playing on Derek's big bed.
Laura smiled sweetly. Maeve was considered a burden by others, but Derek saw her differently. "Smart move. Come, let me put the watch on you."
"Isn't the watch too expensive?" Derek marveled, "It's the first time I've received such an expensive gift from a woman."
"The last watch you wore was quite expensive too, " Laura reminded.
"That was from Julia," Derek replied.
"Yes, and this one is from me." Laura said with a grin.
Derek smiled and rubbed his forehead. "Honestly, I've never given you anything this expensive."
"No worries, I'm rich," Laura said proudly, "If you want to date me, you have to accept that."
"With pleasure," Derek made a gentlemanly bow, a charming smile on his lips, "Since my sugar mama has spent hundreds of thousands of dollars, when will you let me offer my body to please you? After all, we can't waste your money, right?"
Laura looked at him, her beautiful face blushing, but she still said, "Wait, I just got back and I'm quite busy. I'll have my secretary schedule a time for us to make love."
"I'll be waiting." Derek held Laura's hand and kissed the back of it, his gaze suggestive.
"Alright, stop joking. I've delivered the gift, I'm leaving." Laura felt her face getting hotter and turned to pick up Maeve.
Derek walked her downstairs.
She suddenly remembered something and smiled, "Oh, I haven't congratulated you yet on becoming a secretary to the President. I really don't understand it, but it seems quite impressive."
"Forget it. It's just that my dad has been too tired lately. The secretaries around him all have their own agendas and aren't efficient. Because I'm his son, he thinks I'm the most reliable."
Derek shrugged, "Honestly, I don't really want to go. Being a secretary is too busy and tiring. I prefer working at the grassroots level, where there's less work and I can get off on time. I used to think about climbing up the ladder to earn more money, but now there's no need. After all, I've already gotten you, my sweet."
Laura was silent.
Derek patted her head. "I'll try to help Elliott more, so your Miller Group can grow bigger. In the future, your status will be higher, and I can be the man behind your success without having to work hard. I'm willing to be like this."
Laura couldn't help but laugh, "Stop joking."
"Sweetie, I'm serious. After I start tomorrow, I'll be very busy," Derek sighed, "Just look at my dad. He rarely comes home for dinner."
Laura blinked, "What should I do then? I just got back."
"That's why I said I don't want to go. Without making love with you, I can't focus on work." Derek playfully winked at her.
Laura finally fled in embarrassment.
But the matter of making love had to be postponed, and she felt a bit disappointed.
Laura rested at home for two days, spending all her time with Maeve.
On the third day, Laura felt really bored and decided to go to work.
Cassie was surprised to see her. "Didn't the company arrange for you and Natalia to spend time with your family this week? You could come back to work next Monday."
"My family isn't in Whisperlyn City, and Carl and Violet are always busy, either in a helicopter or in the office," Laura sighed, "Derek has also been transferred to the Presidential Palace as a secretary. He's very busy. He worked until eleven last night and I didn't see him this morning. I was bored, so I came to work."
"Alright, I've thought you'd be spending time with Derek or making love," Cassie quickly coughed when she saw Laura's resentful look, "Just kidding."
Laura huffed, "Don't project your thing with Joseph onto me."
"What's wrong with me and Joseph?" Cassie laughed, "But I didn't expect Derek to get promoted so quickly. He's probably the youngest secretary at the Presidential Palace. If you marry him in the future, you might actually become the First Lady."
Laura was shocked. "What are you talking about?"
"I'm not joking. With Derek's ability and potential, he could at least become a minister in the future, and maybe even the President," Cassie reminded seriously, "He's only in his twenties."
Laura was stunned. She really hadn't thought that far ahead. "When I was chatting with Violet a few days ago, she had originally planned to leave Derek the Chief Secretary for experience, and then he could become a minister naturally.."
