Chapter 326
""I... um...""
Just then, David's phone rang. After he took the call, his expression changed dramatically. ""I have to go right now.""
""Cassie, something urgent came up at the office; I can't stay with you tonight,"" he said, then quickly got up and left.
Cassie was stunned; she had never seen David in such a rush.
Later, back at her hotel, she turned on the TV and discovered the pharmaceuticals produced by Wit Group had encountered severe issues, and David himself had been detained.
She was frightened. She rushed to the scene with her lawyer but could not secure his release.
This scene was all too familiar to her. It reminded her of the time she was arrested in Madison.
Only this time, it was David.
The lawyer said, ""Miss Brooks, it's clear that Mr. Foster has rubbed someone wrong. Technically, his case is bailable, but the police are holding him tight. We're out of options here. With Wit Group headless, the factory's operations are at a standstill. If Mr. Foster's incarceration continues even for a week, Wit Group is history.""
Cassie's legs went weak. She understood it all now; this debacle was inseparable from Joseph.
She had thought that the Peace Group was in the clear and that she had finally dodged a bullet. But instead, she had implicated Liam and now David.
Never before had she detested a man so deeply.
Joseph was despicably low.
Regret washed over her. What kind of devil had she gotten entangled with?
It was clear what Joseph wanted.
But when David got out, how would she face him?
All through the night, Cassie lay awake.
Calls from the Foster family nearly blew up her phone.
Gertrude wept on the line. ""Cassie, you must save David. You can ask your father. If this goes on, the Foster family is done for.""
""Cassie, David has only one kidney. He won't survive in jail.""
""I'll figure something out, don't worry,"" Cassie reassured with a bitter taste in her mouth.
At the break of dawn, she drove straight to the Hernandez Corporation.
But no sooner had she spoken to the receptionist than security chased her out.
""Who do you think you are? Do you think anyone can waltz in to see the president?""
""Get out of here, now.""
The security guard slammed the door shut in her face.
With no choice, Cassie waited at the door till nightfall, when she finally saw Joseph's car pull out of the parking lot.
She quickly got into her car and followed.
Inside the Rolls-Royce ahead, the driver cautioned, ""Joseph, there's been a white car tailing us.""
Joseph's hands paused from sifting through documents, and he said indifferently, ""Let her follow.""
Half an hour later, the car pulled up outside a hotel.
""Park here,"" Joseph commanded, closing his folder.
The driver was taken aback. ""But sir, don't you always enter through the parking garage elevator?""
No response came—only a silence that chilled the driver to the bone. He realized he had overstepped his bounds and quickly parked the car.
Joseph stepped out and headed towards the entrance, but Cassie sprinted to intercept him.
""What do you think you're doing?"" A bodyguard stepped in front of Joseph, his eyes wary."
