Chapter 1131 Bernice Looked So Much Like Her
"Come on, Joey, zip it." Cassie clamped his mouth shut.
"You're so cute, Cassie," Joseph grinned mischievously.
"Enough," Michael said, feeling goosebumps.
"Joey, behave," Cassie warned Joseph, then turned to Michael. "Laura's not hung up on Benjamin; she wants to deal with Isla. If you don't want to, I'll handle Isla myself. Just found out Benjamin brought her to Whisperlyn City."
"Cassie, let me do it," Joseph eagerly offered.
Michael panicked. "Don't take this from me. I didn't say I wouldn't do it; I just had doubts."
"It's complicated. You don't believe me, so I won't waste my time. But it's definitely not about Benjamin," Cassie said and hung up.
Michael, worried Cassie and Joseph would take over, quickly instructed his assistant to act.
Dreamscape Entertainment Group.
Bernice had a commercial shoot in the morning, but Max called her in urgently, so she postponed it. She wasn't in a good mood when she arrived.
"Mr. Jenkins, what's so urgent?" Bernice pushed open the office door, but her words got stuck when she saw the tall, elegant figure in the chair.
"You're here," Lucas said, playing with a black pen. "I've been waiting for ten minutes."
Bernice's temper flared. "I delayed a two-hour shoot to come here, messing up my schedule."
"I'm your boss. Isn't it your duty to be at my beck and call?" Lucas stared at her, amused by her cold expression.
Lucas thought, 'She looks so much like Nina.'
Only Nina had dared to look at him like that.
He wanted to see Bernice angry.
Bernice gave him a mocking glance. "Mr. Nelson, you probably haven't read my contract. I have my own studio. Apart from quarterly and annual meetings or company events, I don't have to come to the office."
"Do you think you can confront me?" Lucas swiveled his chair, a mocking smile on his lips, his arrogance making Bernice grit her teeth.
She used to think Lucas was just a jerk, but now she saw his arrogance.
Clearly, she didn't know him well enough before.
"What do you want?" Bernice asked, not in the mood to continue. "To mock me for having ulterior motives with Laura and the others, or to tell me to stay away from them?"
"Don't you have ulterior motives?" Lucas picked up a pack of cigarettes and took one out. "I don't believe you."
"So?"
"Why were you at the courthouse yesterday? Do you hate Megan or Joseph, or did you know Cassie and the others are connected to Joseph, so you went on purpose?" Lucas lit a cigarette, squinting as he speculated.
"Think whatever you want," Bernice replied indifferently. "Whether you think I have ulterior motives or just want to see Megan suffer, I don't care."
Lucas's sharp eyes narrowed as the smoke dissipated.
After a moment, he stood up slowly, his voice cold. "What if I think you hate Megan? You have no connection to her, so maybe you did it for Nina."
Bernice stayed silent, but she was getting nervous.
"Bernice, is Nina still alive?" Lucas suddenly grabbed her chin. "Since she was your childhood friend, it's not impossible she survived and came to find you."
Bernice looked at him like he was joking, her eyes filled with loathing and anger. "Do you think Nina could survive jumping into a raging sea? If you have the guts, try it yourself. She's dead, and I wish she weren't."
Although Nina's soul lived on, her body was forever gone.
"Why are you so obsessed with whether Nina is dead or not? What does she have to do with you?" Bernice sneered. "Don't tell me she was one of your flings."
Lucas turned away, closing his eyes.
He didn't know why he was so obsessed with it.
"You're right. She used to like me until death," Lucas's thin lips curled as he spoke each word deliberately.
Even Bernice's calm heart was almost driven mad by him. "If she really had a thing with you, it would be the biggest regret of her life."
"What makes you so sure? You're not her." Lucas smiled wickedly.
"I know her. She's a proud person. A man like you, who gets aroused at the sight of a woman, would disgust her afterward," Bernice said coldly.
Lucas's eyes darkened, and he stepped closer to her. "Since you say I get aroused at the sight of a woman, maybe you're right. I feel aroused seeing you now."
Lucas's tall, imposing figure moved closer.
Bernice's heart tightened, and she instinctively took two steps back until her body hit the wall behind her.
Lucas placed his hands on the wall, trapping her in between.
He paused when a faint, sweet scent from Bernice's body wafted to his nose.
It was the same unforgettable scent from his youth, the first time he smelled it.
He had tried not to think about it, to ignore it, but when the familiar scent hit him, he was stunned.
Later, he found out it was Nina's favorite brand of shampoo.
He didn't expect Bernice to use the same brand.
He looked down, and Bernice was also looking up at him, her eyes filled with bright, burning anger.
Bernice looked so much like Nina!
Lucas's Adam's apple moved slightly, and in a moment of heat, he lowered his head and kissed her hard on the lips.
Even though he had been with many women, this impulse had been gone for a long time.
Her lips tasted just like he remembered, sweet like jelly, completely irresistible.
