Chapter 1576 He Regretted It
Michael's heart skipped a beat.
He turned his head and glared at Cassie, who was smiling faintly in front of him, feeling heavy-hearted. "Just you?"
"Of course." Cassie nodded calmly, then left with her bodyguards and Magnus.
Michael stared at her back, feeling so agitated and resentful that he wanted to tear her apart.
If Cassie had said something like this before, he would have taken it as a joke.
But it was different now. Cassie had Joseph, Declan, and Everett behind her, and Isabella, who was always trying to make amends and please her. Not to mention Michael, even the top tycoons around the world were trying to curry favor with Cassie.
If Cassie was determined to go against Michael, without the Jude family and the Presidential Palace as his backing, Michael might not be her match.
Michael had never thought that marrying Megan would make Cassie such an adversary.
Now, the Ocean Blue group was the most prominent company he had.
If he lost, the funds of his other invested companies would be in big trouble, and all his years of hard work would be in vain.
Definitely, Michael could just shut down the company and return to the Jude family.
Michael's parents would certainly not leave him starve, but what would be the point of such a life?
He would become the most useless person in the entire Jude family, everyone would look down upon him.
He was wrong; he shouldn't have agreed to Megan's grand wedding.
The more high-profile the wedding was, the more people knew that the Jude family didn't attend his wedding, which would be considered that the Jude family had completely abandoned him.
At that time, he just wanted to satisfy Megan, without thinking about the consequences.
At this moment, Michael was at a loss.
Was it really worth it to isolate himself for Megan?
If it weren't for Megan, he wouldn't have lost his happy family, Carl and Violet wouldn't have disliked him, and he might have already been the head of the Jude Group. Cassie wouldn't have become his enemy, and he would still be friends with Joseph and Lucas.
And what about Megan? What could she give him?
Just as Michael was thinking about Megan, her call came through.
"Michael, when are you coming back?" Megan said softly, "I miss you."
Michael listened almost numbly; he didn't want to go back at all. "I'm not done here yet."
"Okay, I finally saw Dr. Grayson Bishop today. He checked my health and said that if I take care of myself for two or three years, I still have a chance to get pregnant." Megan shared happily with Michael, "Then we can have a beautiful baby."
"Okay, I'm busy here. I'll hang up now," Michael replied.
After hanging up, Michael frowned tightly.
He didn't want to have a child with Megan at all, nor did he have any interest in making love to her.
A child? He only needed Maeve.
Then Michael suddenly realized that Laura must have gone to Selaestan for training, so who was taking care of Maeve?
Michael quickly dialed Caroline's number. "Mom, have you seen Maeve recently?"
"Yes, I just saw her yesterday," Caroline said.
"Laura went to Selaestan for training for two months. Why didn't you bring Maeve back?" Michael suggested.
"What, Laura went for training?" Caroline was shocked. "I didn't know that."
"The Presidential Palace didn't tell you?" Michael's face darkened.
"Carl and Violet have been very busy since the Christmas. I haven't seen them every time I went," Caroline said in surprise, "I always thought Laura was working during the day and coming home at night. Arabella, who takes care of Maeve, never mentioned it. If I had known it before, I would have brought Maeve back. I can't rest easy leaving Maeve with just a nanny."
Michael immediately understood. "Mom, Laura must have told them not to tell you, probably because she was afraid you would bring Maeve back and not return her."
Caroline frowned. In the past, she would have scolded Michael, but thinking it over, she realized he might be right this time.
She felt uncomfortable. "What do you mean? Am I that kind of person? The Presidential Palace isn't Maeve's home. If Laura isn't there, Maeve should be with us. Carl is really something, helping Laura keep this from me."
"Mom, please bring Maeve back," Michael said, "Carl and his wife are too busy, and they're not Maeve's real grandparents. We can take care of her better. If Maeve grows up thinking you don't like her, she won't be close to you."
"Of course not. I love Maeve very much," Caroline sighed, "I'll go get her right away."
After hanging up, many thoughts flashed through Michael's mind.
He finally contacted his secretary. "Send a car over immediately. I need to go to Selaestan."
"Selaestan?" The secretary was stunned for a moment but quickly nodded in agreement.
Fortunately, Selaestan was next to Seldonia, just a two-hour drive away.
In the Selaestan research lab.
Laura was working for an old professor. Although she was doing trivial tasks, she found them very beneficial.
Suddenly, the receptionist came in to inform her. "Laura, someone is here to see you."
Laura immediately thought of Cassie. She knew Cassie was on a business trip in Seldonia and probably came to surprise her.
Laura quickly asked the professor for a break. When she walked out and saw Michael, her expression turned cold. She should have asked who it was before coming out.
It was too late to leave now. Michael saw her and walked over quickly. On the way, he was filled with anger, but seeing her standing in front of him, wearing work clothes, lab glasses, and her hair in a ponytail, she looked like a different person. Her face was less glamorous and more intellectual and meticulous, like a researcher.
It was said that men were most handsome when they were working, and women were no exception.
Laura looked more attractive now.
Upon seeing Laura in a new style, Michael thought of Megan at home.
Megan used to be a psychologist, but when did she stop wearing her work clothes and start crying all the time?
"What are you doing here?" Laura asked, feeling uneasy as he stared at her without speaking.
Michael questioned, "I should be asking you, Laura. You came to Selaestan for training but didn't tell me or my family. What do you mean by that? You left Maeve with a nanny without informing us. What do you mean by that?"
"What's wrong with a nanny? Maeve likes Arabella, and the Presidential Palace is very safe. You and your parents can see her at anytime. I didn't stop you," Laura retorted, "Do you expect me to leave Maeve with you and Megan? That's impossible."
