"Jonathan's face grew dark. ""If Mr. Brooks questions my competence, he might as well fire me.
He stared down Cassie, not believing she had the guts to do it and confident that the board wouldn't let her get away with it.
""Seriously, Mr. Jonathan? Every day he's been boosting our company's performance by several points. How could I not trust you?"" Cassie let out a sudden laugh, ""The meeting is in your hands.""
After saying that, she left the room with her team.
Jonathan watched her departing figure, an expression of contempt briefly crossing his face. Thinking to himself, I’ve been around the block way more times than she has.
But no sooner had Cassie left than Jonathan's wife burst in, tearing into him furiously.
""Jonathan, you scumbag, how dare you have a mistress on the side!""

Noah was suddenly interrupted by a chill; he glanced at the displeased Joseph next to him, touched his nose sheepishly, and asked, ""Why didn't you ask Joseph for help?""
""Joseph? He's not into this kind of stuff. Plus, with Jonathan being so sneaky, I wouldn’t want him causing trouble for Joseph.""

Noah Collins was speechless, ""You're being a bit unfair, aren't you? Aren't you worried about Jonathan retaliating against me?""

Noah almost burst out laughing.

Hanging up the phone, Noah couldn't contain his glee. ""She's hilarious, always knows just what to say. And I was worried she might not secure her spot as the chairperson of Peace Group – looks like she doesn't need my concern at all.""
""Cut the crap, she's taken by someone with clout.""
Joseph's lips quirked up in a hint of pride but then he caught sight of Noah Collins and his gaze turned disdainful.
Noah's face flushed with embarrassment. ""Are you jealous she asked for my help instead? Look, she's just looking out for you, wanting to protect you from Jonathan's harm. I'm actually kind of envious, you know?""
Joseph cracked a smile. For the first time, a woman wanted to protect him. It was quite amusing.
""She even said she'd take care of me.""
His striking features lit up with an indulgent yet helpless grin, making Noah shudder with mock disgust. ""Man, you've got no shame. You're rolling in money, and yet you still let her spoil you.""
