Chapter 1785 I'm Jealous

"Lucas is going to lose it," Laura said, feeling quite pleased. "But come to think of it, it's quite a coincidence. Someone's shorting the Nelson Group, and at the same time, there's trouble at the prison, and no one can visit."

"Just goes to show there are too many eyes on the Nelson Group right now."

Cassie poured drinks for the two of them. "Bernice, tell us about life in the poor areas. Look at you, you've even gotten a tan."

The topic quickly shifted, and Nina started sharing some interesting stories from her time there.

It wasn't until after 9 PM that Joseph called Cassie's phone, and everyone reluctantly prepared to head home.

"Joseph's car is downstairs," Cassie said, standing up. "He took the kids to the nearby amusement park today, and now they're probably tired and ready to sleep."

"Alright, I'll go with you. I'll just ride in your car," Laura said, standing up.

As the three of them left the private room, Laura realized she had drunk too much and needed to use the restroom. "Wait for me."

After she left, Cassie leaned against the wall, the dim light in the hallway casting a soft glow. Her beautiful eyes took on a dreamy look. "Bernice, do you want to bring down the Nelson Group?"

"What?" Nina turned her head thoughtfully and looked at her. "Why do you say that?"

"From the time you got into trouble, to Lucas going to prison, then the billion-dollar donation, and now the endless scandals at the Nelson Group, it's all connected. Everything started with you," Cassie said, her eyes gradually showing a complex expression. "I always thought I was smart, but it turns out Laura and I never really understood you."

"Cassie, everyone has their secrets. Just know that I genuinely consider you and Laura my friends. I never intended to use you," Nina said with a bitter smile. She knew Cassie's sharp instincts would pick up on things.

"I never doubted you," Cassie sighed softly. "Just like you never told us about the things Lucas did to humiliate you. If you had, Laura and I would have done everything we could to help you. I'm just a bit frustrated that as your friend, I could only watch you fight alone or seek allies behind the scenes, and we couldn't help at all."

"This is fine. It's between Lucas and me. Don't make things difficult for Joseph. Look, this time he watched Lucas go to prison for your sake and didn't help him with the case."

Nina patted her shoulder with a smile. "That's enough."

Just then, Laura returned.

The three of them said their goodbyes at the door.

In the car, Joseph and Nina exchanged polite nods through the window.

They didn't get back to the estate until late at night.

After Joseph put the kids to bed, Cassie came out of the shower, her face flushed, either from the shower or the alcohol.

Without a word, Joseph scooped Cassie up and laid her on the bed, pressing down on her.

"Joseph," Cassie exclaimed, trying to push him away.

"Whatever it is, we can talk about it later."

Joseph couldn't hold back and kissed her.

In the spacious bedroom, the temperature rose.

Clothes fell to the floor one by one.

It was a long time before they finally stopped.

"How much did you drink tonight? Your mouth tastes like alcohol," Joseph said hoarsely, holding her in his arms.

"I drank fruit wine. Does it smell bad?" Cassie gave him a lazy, cat-like look.

"It smells good. Anything on you smells good," Joseph said, kissing her cheek. "Do you really like Bernice that much?"

"Yes, don't you like her?" Cassie's charming eyes suddenly became alert. "Because she went against Lucas?"

"I don't like her or dislike her. I know Lucas was wrong. I'm a lawyer; I can tell right from wrong," Joseph quickly explained. "I just think Bernice isn't that simple. I've met countless people, and honestly, I can't figure her out."

Cassie was silent for a moment, then suddenly said, "I can't figure her out either, but I can feel that Bernice genuinely cares about me and Laura. The first time I met her, I felt a strong sense of familiarity, like I'd known her for a long time."

Joseph was immediately jealous. "Did you feel that way the first time you met me?"

"I'm being serious," Cassie said angrily.

"So am I," Joseph said. "I'm jealous."

"Alright, don't be jealous. Bernice and I are just friends. You're the one I love," Cassie said, kissing him on the lips. "Maybe when I meet you in the next life, I'll feel that strong connection too."

"So, you think you and Bernice were good friends in a past life?" Joseph said helplessly.

"Yes, I have that feeling," Cassie said, turning to look at him. "Lucas will be out of prison soon. I don't know what Bernice is planning, but I predict those two will clash again. Lucas is your friend, and Bernice is mine. I hope we both stay out of it, okay?"

Joseph sighed softly. "Lucas lost a billion dollars, went to prison, and the Nelson Group suffered heavy losses. Can't Bernice just let it go? Honestly, Lucas is much more ruthless than I am. If you push him too far, he'll do anything. Why don't you talk to Bernice? When Lucas gets out, I'll hold him back and make sure he doesn't retaliate against Bernice. Then they can go their separate ways."

"The Nelson Group lost ninety billion dollars. Do you think Lucas will let it go?" Cassie said dismissively.

"I looked into it. It seems to be the work of a mysterious group called Reborn from abroad. A few years ago, Reborn appeared out of nowhere, made a lot of money, and then disappeared," Joseph said, frowning.

"I don't know what the relationship between Reborn and Bernice is, or if they even know each other, but Lucas will blame Bernice for this."

Cassie said calmly, "Let's both stay out of it. If you help Lucas, then I'll have to help Bernice. We can have a good competition as a couple and see who's better."

"No," Joseph said, scared. "I promise not to get involved. As for competing with you, let's just do that in bed, okay?"

Cassie glared at him, but before she could say anything, he kissed her again.

She had no choice but to compete with him.

The next day.

In a villa.

A long-haired woman with blonde hair and blue eyes placed a thick stack of documents on the table. "Reborn, the acquisition of the Nelson Group's shares has been completed."

"Yancy didn't suspect anything, right?" Nina asked, crossing her legs on the sofa.
