Chapter 1119 Reunion
Cassie, in the middle of putting on makeup, froze.
"You didn't forget, did you?" Joseph asked, clearly annoyed.
"Of course not. I was picking up Laura, but she was taking forever," Cassie said, just as Laura shot her an angry look.
"Why'd you pick her up? What's a pregnant woman doing running around?" Joseph fumed. "Get here quick. Winning without you isn't fun."
"Okay, I'm on my way."
After hanging up, Laura glared at Cassie. "I was the one delaying you?"
"I waited for you for half an hour. That's true, right?" Cassie replied.
Laura turned away, ignoring her.
Luckily, the courthouse was close by.
Even though they were a few minutes late, they made it.
The trial had already started, and the front seats were full. Cassie and Laura quietly slipped into the second-to-last row, ducking as they did.
As soon as she sat down, Cassie focused on Joseph.
Today, Joseph wore a black suit, white shirt, and a deep, understated tie. He looked flawless. From the side, his profile was like a perfect sketch.
When Joseph was with Cassie, he sometimes acted like a kid. But in his element, he was all business.
Laura didn't like Joseph. After sitting down, she noticed Bernice next to her, wearing a mask.
When she looked over, Bernice was also looking at her and Cassie, her eyes gentle but mysterious.
As soon as Laura made eye contact, Bernice quickly looked away.
Laura blinked, feeling a sense of familiarity. She felt like she had seen Bernice somewhere before.
"I remember now. Are you Bernice?" Laura asked excitedly in a low voice.
"Yes," Bernice admitted calmly.
Laura was stunned, then thrilled. "Oh my God, I love you. I really enjoyed 'Poison Queen.'"
"Thank you. I've heard about you too, the world's youngest top cosmetic formulator. Very impressive," Bernice said with a smile.
Once, Cassie and Laura had been her friends.
But three years ago, things went south for all of them.
Especially Bernice—she even lost her life. Luckily, she could still see Cassie and Laura now.
Especially Laura, who was still the same, unscarred by past events.
Bernice was happy to reconnect, even though she couldn't tell them she was Nina, and she had returned.
"I'm so surprised you, my favorite idol, know my name," Laura said with a smile. "Why are you here for this trial? You must have heard about Megan's bad reputation and hate her too, right?"
"Yes," Bernice nodded with a smile, "I really hate her."
"You really are my kindred spirit," Laura said excitedly, grabbing her hand. "Do you have time later? Let's grab a meal after this."
"Of course."
"Let's exchange contact info."
"No problem."
Cassie stayed quiet.
She really wanted to focus on the trial, but Laura was too noisy.
Cassie thought, 'Is Laura here to see Megan's downfall or to make friends?'
In no time, Laura had already set up dinner plans.
Cassie was about to say something when Michael turned around and snapped, "Laura, can you be quiet?"
Even though the Jude family had told him to be nice to Laura, her constant socializing was getting on his nerves.
After all, Laura was Carl's goddaughter. Wasn't she wary of people with hidden agendas? And here she was, planning dinner with Bernice after knowing her for less than a minute.
Laura froze, realizing Michael was sitting in front of her.
Michael had actually come and dared to be so harsh with her.
"Michael, what business is it of yours?" Laura kicked him hard in the butt. The back of the chair was half open, and she hit Michael's injured butt perfectly.
He yelped in pain and jumped up.
The tense courtroom suddenly fell silent, and everyone, including Judge Cherie, turned their eyes to Michael.
Michael's face turned red with embarrassment. "I'm sorry."
Cherie gave him a warning glare. "If you make any more noise, I'll have you removed."
Joseph also gave Michael a speechless look, thinking, 'He was already injured, but why couldn't he just be quiet?'
Michael sat down in frustration and glared at Laura.
Laura gave him a provocative smile and raised her middle finger.
Michael was furious, while Cassie was speechless.
Out of the corner of her eye, Cassie saw Bernice next to Laura also watching the scene, a faint smile in her cold eyes.
She felt a sense of déjà vu.
Bernice noticed her gaze, turned around, and nodded at her.
Cassie nodded back and was about to continue watching the trial when Laura kicked Michael again.
This time, Michael shivered in pain but didn't dare to jump up.
Laura quickly leaned over and whispered, "Sorry, I didn't mean to. My legs are too long, and I accidentally touched you."
Michael gritted his teeth, his face pale with pain. "Laura, do you think I'm stupid?"
"Why do you always think the worst of me?" Laura said, giving him another casual kick.
Michael broke out in a cold sweat and couldn't sit there any longer. He quickly bent over and moved his sore butt to the last row, deliberately sitting behind Laura.
Laura turned around and whispered, "I know your legs are long too. Be careful. I have a baby in my belly. If you hurt me, I'll tell the judge."
Michael, who was about to pretend to kick her butt, was immediately scared stiff.
Laura looked at his frustrated but helpless expression and smiled smugly.
Cassie gave her a helpless look. "Why don't you and Michael go outside and fight, then come back in?"
"I won't bother you watching Joseph, okay?" Laura finally quieted down after being reminded. She couldn't let teaching Michael a lesson interfere with watching Megan's despair.
At this moment, Joseph was still in a passive position in the courtroom.
