Chapter 980 Nina Was Back
"Yeah. Later, you were already under hypnosis. When I told you, you got really angry. That was when I felt something was really off, so I didn't dare bring it up again," Nathaniel said. "You suspected that Megan had swapped Isabella's ashes, so you asked me to investigate. The forensic team said it might be the ashes of a cat or a dog."
"Megan swapped all of Isabella's ashes with those of a cat or dog?" Lucas was completely stunned.
Lucas considered himself not a kind person, but he wouldn't do such insane thing replacing someone's ashes with a dog's. "So, the ashes buried with Megan's dad are actually just animal ashes?"
"It might be." Nathaniel nodded.
Joseph and Lucas both fell silent. After a long while, Lucas said softly, "Maybe it was Nathan who did it."
"You still believe Megan isn't that bad? I've known Megan the longest, but she would rather ruin me than not hypnotize me. That time with Spencer was definitely Megan's doing. Is Nathan really that smart?
"Exactly, Nathan is bad, but you can see from how he manages the Zenith Group that he lacks intelligence. If he had any, the Zenith Group wouldn't have stagnated for so many years despite my support. If it weren't for us bailing him out multiple times, Nathan would have been in jail long ago," Joseph said.
"I met Megan when I was a teenager. In my heart, Megan was always a kind little sister. When did she change? Was it those years in Austin that changed her?
"Maybe Megan changed, or maybe she was always like this, and we just didn't know it. Isn't she the best at acting?" Lucas sighed deeply.
Joseph suddenly said, "When we were teenagers, we always protected Megan and targeted Nina, thinking Nina was bullying Megan. Maybe..."
Lucas's handsome face suddenly changed, as Nina was his taboo. "You think Megan framed Nina?"
Joseph looked at Lucas with a complex expression. "I am not sure."
"Megan is bad, but Nina isn't much better." Lucas showed a look of disgust. "Don't forget. Nina had someone burn Joyce to death. That shows how vicious she is."
Joseph pressed his thin lips together and said nothing.
Lucas took off his glasses and pinched the bridge of his nose. "Nathan, Megan andNina, all three of them are bad people."
Just then, Michael called Lucas.
Lucas looked at the phone but didn't answer.
Joseph reminded him, "Michael is probably calling to ask you to persuade me. Megan must be behind this. Megan won't return the money to me as she loves money and power. Since she met us, she's gotten used to living the high life."
Lucas still didn't answer the call. He drove away from the Hernandez group.
Usually, Lucas was a very calm person, but now his mind was filled with Joseph's words.
Lucas thought, 'Maybe Joseph might be suggesting that Nina never bullied Megan and it was all Megan's pretense. Where's the evidence? Just because Nina and Megan aren't biological sisters?'
The car drove on the road for a while, and he finally turned the wheel towards the cemetery in the suburbs of Whisperlyn City.
When he arrived at William and Isabella's graves, Lucas found that they had been dug up, and the two urns inside were missing.
Lucas's deep eyes darkened. He squatted there for a long time before getting up to find the cemetery caretaker.
The caretaker was shocked to hear that the urns had been stolen. "Are you crazy? Who would steal ashes these days?"
A sharp glint flashed in Lucas's dark eyes. He said to himself inwardly, 'Yeah, who would be bored enough to steal ashes now? Unless the person is a relative or the relative doesn't want the deceased to be buried here. Nathan and Megan couldn't have done it because they were the ones who placed the urns here. So, Nina might not be dead; she's back.'
Lucas suddenly pulled out a pack of cigarettes from his pocket, took one out and lit it. The smoke blurred his delicate eyebrows. "Let me ask you, have any young, beautiful women come here in recent years?"
"No one comes here, let alone a young, beautiful woman." The caretaker checked the computer. "The grave you mentioned has no contact information. Since you're here to pay respects, can you contact the family?"
Lucas was stunned. "No phone number? Does the family come to visit the grave regularly?"
"I'm not sure. There are always too many people during memorials. The only thing I remember is that a young, beautiful girl seems to come every year." The caretaker recalled.
"Does she look like this?" Lucas showed a photo of Megan and the others from his phone.
"No." The caretaker shook his head. "That girl had big eyes, like a mixed-race person. She came every year, and this year, she brought another pretty girl about her age. I remember it clearly. But last time, she ran into a pair of siblings and got into a fight. I remember now that woman was one of the siblings."
Lucas guessed that the young, mixed-race-looking beauty was probably Laura.
Lucas didn't know much about Laura, but the fact that she consistently visited the graves of two deceased elders every year, despite not being related, showed that Laura was a person of deep feelings.
Lucas said to himself inwardly, 'If Michael could marry Laura, it would indeed be much better than Megan.'
"What about the siblings? Have you seen them before?" Lucas asked.
The caretaker shook his head. "I am not sure. I only saw them once this year."
"Thank you," Lucas replied.
After leaving the cemetery, Lucas called Michael, "If you're calling for Megan, don't involve me. But do you think Megan can really feel at ease with Joseph's vast sums?"
Cassie had been busy these days, accompanying Oliver and Sophia.
Cassie took Oliver and Sophia to the beach with David for two days this weekend.
When they returned, they found Joseph was in the headlines again: [Joseph sending a lawyer's letter to his ex-girlfriend to recover a huge breakup fee]
Of course, many people online criticized Joseph: [Is Joseph even a man? Asking for the money he gave away back?]
[Megan's luck was really bad when meeting Joseph, who wasted the best years of her life and now wants compensation.]
[I heard he wants Megan to return all the jewelry and expenses from the past few years. That's a bit too much, isn't it?]
