Chapter 1530 What Exactly Does He Take Her For

Elliott shot back, "She had it coming. She's power-hungry."

Laura sighed, "Elliott, Julia grew up in a family like the Judes. From a young age, she was taught to shoulder responsibilities that were often out of her control. The Jude family gave her the best education and a high status. Her parents worked hard to raise her, and she had to carry those burdens. Back then, Julia not only had you but also parents with high expectations and a younger brother to protect."

Laura continued, "Plus, the Miller family wasn't powerful back then. The Judes could've wiped us out easily. If Eric knew Julia was risking everything for you, do you think he'd spare the Miller family? He'd definitely come after you and force you to leave. For your family's safety, you'd leave Julia on your own, right?"

Elliott was stumped for words. After a while, he gave a bitter smile and said, "You've really thought this through."

"Because I've been in the Jude Estate and I know what it's like," Laura said. "I've been through a lot in Whisperlyn City. I might understand some things better than you. Don't always think Julia betrayed you. Put yourself in her shoes. If it were you, without the power, you'd have to make the same choice. Think about it. She was in her prime but had to marry an unhealthy man for her family's sake. Julia was also a victim of her circumstances. It was just her bad luck to be born into the Jude family."

Elliott stayed quiet for a long time, realizing Laura had a point.

Laura had really grown up.

"Laura, even so, there's no future for Julia and me. First, our statuses are different. She's now the head of the Jude Group, and I'm just the president of the Miller Group. Second, you married Michael and are now divorced. If I marry Julia, it would be too complicated to explain."

"What's so complicated? Julia runs the Jude family now. She can marry whoever she wants," Laura pouted. "Anyway, it's up to you. I just think life is long, and it's hard to find someone you truly like."

Elliott frowned, "That sounds weird. Laura, have you fallen for someone again?"

"No, you're overthinking it. My love life is way more colorful than yours. Any advice I give comes from experience." Laura finished and hung up.

She sat in the car, feeling a bit down because she had insomnia last night.

Every time she closed her eyes, she saw Derek kissing her, and the more she thought about it, the more confused and annoyed she got.

This morning, when she ran into Derek at the restaurant, he was as calm as ever, like nothing had happened, which made her even more furious.

Laura was in a funk and couldn't eat a thing.

At lunch in the cafeteria, she just kept pushing her food around.

Cassie, sitting across from her, frowned, "Even if you're trying to lose weight, you should eat something for lunch. Just skip dinner or something."

"Who said anything about losing weight?" Laura pouted.

"What?" Cassie sipped her juice.

"Nothing, maybe I'm just overthinking." Laura mumbled and started eating in silence.

Cassie didn't push it.

Two days later, after work, Laura headed to the restaurant with Maeve and heard laughter coming from inside.

"Blair, you're just too cute," Magnolia laughed heartily.

Laura paused for a moment. Magnolia spotted her and waved, "Laura, come over, let me introduce you."

Under the bright crystal chandelier, a sweet-looking girl in her twenties sat beside Magnolia. She had a poised demeanor and a beautiful smile, the kind of girl elders would adore.

"This is Blair, the girl I told you about," Magnolia said, her voice full of joy. "Tonight, I specifically asked Derek to bring Blair over for dinner."

"Laura, nice to meet you," Blair gave Laura a warm and sincere smile, then playfully said to Derek, who was lounging on another sofa, "Derek, Laura is so beautiful."

"Yeah, and you're very beautiful too," Derek said with a wink, making Blair blush instantly.

Magnolia watched with delight. She had been worried that Derek was too stubborn, but now she finally saw hope, "When we used to have family dinners, you always liked to follow Derek around. But as you grew up, you two lost touch. Every time I chatted with your mom, we joked about when you two would become a couple."

"Mom, Blair is here for the first time, watch your words. Aren't you afraid of scaring her away?" Derek teased.

"I won't be scared away. My parents always say Magnolia is kind and a role model for women in Madison. I came to learn from her today."

Blair linked arms with Magnolia, making her extremely happy.

Laura found a seat and listened to their conversation, suddenly feeling very out of place. Especially when she saw Derek and Blair talking, occasionally exchanging glances and smiles, the subtle intimacy made her feel uncomfortable.

Laura was really fed up with Derek.

It turned out he got along well with Blair and didn't seem to dislike women at all.

If that was the case, why did he insist on experimenting with kissing Laura that day?

If it was just an experiment, why did he say those things, making Laura overthink, and then bring Blair home?

What did he take her for?

"Laura, it's time to eat. Come here," Magnolia suddenly called out to her.

Laura quickly held Maeve and sat at the dining table.

Blair glanced at Maeve in her arms and said affectionately, "Laura, Maeve is really adorable. I quite like babies."

"If you like, I can bring Maeve over for you," Derek suddenly said.

Laura's body stiffened, and for some reason, she felt furious.
