Chapter 49 An unprecedented grace and tranquility
Arthur grew increasingly frustrated as he listened. His interests were now tied to Height Architectural Decoration Company. "As long as we can prove to the public that the Brookses and Cassie have no issues, the rumors will naturally die down."
"Good idea." Robert nodded. "It's almost time for your engagement party. The media will definitely be there. If Cassie shows up, we can turn the company's image around."
"She might not come." Olivia looked at Arthur with a tender gaze. "She likes Arthur so much; she might cause a scene."
Arthur was taken aback but then remembered Cassie's past actions, and his heart turned cold. He admitted he once liked Cassie a lot, but the current her didn't deserve his affection.
"I'll figure something out," Robert said.
Cassie was discharged from the hospital after three days. She had spent too much time there recently and really didn't want to stay any longer.
After returning to Emerald Bay, she thought Dakota would be neglected and look thin and worn after a few days, but to her surprise, Dakota had actually gained weight.
That evening, Joseph came home and saw her bent over, feeding Dakota while muttering, "Dakota, you need to eat less. Look at your belly; it's so big like you're pregnant."
Joseph's mouth twitched, feeling helpless. Dakota's belly was getting bigger by the day, and he knew he couldn't hide it for much longer. But having someone at home was nice; at least it wasn't cold and empty when he returned.
He changed into his loungewear and came out to find Cassie had already set the table for dinner. To show her gratitude for him saving her, she had made all his favorite dishes that night.
Joseph glanced at the table, his eyes suddenly darkening. He said coldly, "Can you make some soup occasionally? I'm tired of these dishes."
Cassie was taken aback. She had made soup for him before but noticed he didn't seem to like it much. "Okay, what kind of soup do you want?"
"Broccoli cheddar soup or clam chowder, anything nutritious. Use my card to buy the ingredients."
The doctor had told her to take good care of her health to avoid any lasting issues, but Cassie hadn't taken it to heart, thinking she was young and invincible.
"Okay." Cassie nodded obediently.
It wasn't until after dinner that she saw him finish all the dishes that she realized he wasn't tired of them at all.
She remembered the doctor had said she needed to nourish her body well after her recent health scare.
She looked at Joseph, her heart pounding.
After dinner, Joseph had a lot of work to do and went straight to his study.
At ten o'clock, Cassie saw he hadn't come out yet, so she made a bowl of porridge and brought it in.
Under the bright light, Joseph sat at his desk, flipping through documents and checking his laptop. He wore a pair of gold-rimmed glasses, exuding a refined and calm aura she had never seen before.
Cassie used to find Arthur charming when he worked, but compared to Joseph now, Arthur was left far behind.
"How long are you going to stay in there?" Joseph closed his laptop and looked back coldly.
"It's my first time seeing you with glasses; you look so handsome it made me dizzy," Cassie said with a smile.
"Haven't you gotten used to it yet?" Joseph raised an eyebrow slightly.
For the first time, Cassie was at a loss for words.
After a long pause, she continued to flatter him, "Your looks have a different charm every day. The more I look at you, the more I like you and find you attractive, and the less I get tired of you."
