" Cassie, no," Laura implored, her gaze lifted pleadingly towards the other woman. "I don't want this to escalate into a full-blown scandal."
"Laura, cease your chatter," Cassie retorted, her tone laced with a hint of frustration. "You're not the type to shy away from confrontation."
Cassie's glare shifted towards Joseph, her anger palpable. "If you're so capable, why can't you voice it out?" she challenged him.
Joseph, visibly irritated, loosened his tie in a huff. " Cassie, if you persist in stirring up trouble, I won't allow Dr. Angelino to continue treating Leo Chapman's illness."
A myriad of emotions flickered across Cassie's face, her mind a whirlwind of thoughts.
She turned her attention back to Laura. "Is he using this as a means to intimidate you?"
Laura's voice was laced with bitterness as she replied, " Cassie, you only have one father. I don't want you to lose him."
"Indeed, I only have one father. You all know how much he means to me, and yet you continually use him as a pawn to threaten me," Cassie retorted, her gaze icy as she stared at Joseph. "Previously, in order to safeguard Megan's reputation, I publicly announced our divorce, and I'm still facing backlash online. Now, you're resorting to using Leo Chapman as leverage to force me into letting that scoundrel off the hook."
