Chapter 1184 The Bet

The assistant director bluntly said the second female lead outshone the first.

Callie was annoyed. "Bernice, this is how my character is. If you want beauty and uniqueness, you're in the wrong place. It's the first day of shooting, so you can leave anytime, but if you delay us, you'll have to compensate."

"Callie, I think this is Bernice's first big movie, so she might not get it," Sarah chimed in. "Bernice, just follow the stylist. I have a scene tomorrow where I fall into the mud with no makeup. Ms. Gray wants me to ditch my usual look. Her reputation speaks for itself. We should trust her; every attempt is a breakthrough."

Callie nodded, impressed with Sarah's attitude. As Lucas's fiancée, Sarah was cooperative and down-to-earth.

"Bernice, my schedule is tight. Don't waste our time, okay?" Curtis, an award-winning actor, had little patience for Bernice, a popular idol.

Stella, nearby, was angry and anxious. Just as she was about to speak, Bernice shook her head and said, "Do you see any makeup on my face? I just used a bit of lip balm."

Everyone was stunned; she was indeed makeup-free.

Few actresses dared to go on set without makeup these days.

Even without makeup, Bernice was stunning.

Many actresses were envious.

Bernice showed her phone. "This is the look the stylist gave me. Am I playing the second female lead or her mom?"

Callie glanced at it, surprised. Bernice was beautiful, but the look made her appear older.

The stylist panicked. "Ms. Gray, didn't you say Bernice is very beautiful and I should tone down her beauty with makeup to make her look more cunning?"

"That's right. Some sharpness and beauty can be shown through styling, but that's for actors who aren't good at acting. I don't think it's necessary for me," Bernice said confidently. "Why are we called actors? Because of our acting skills, conveyed through our eyes. Ms. Gray, whatever sharpness and scheming you want, I can deliver."

"Bernice, don't be so full of yourself," Sarah said, trying to mediate. "The TV shows you did before had kind and beautiful leads. Now you're playing a scheming second lead. It's not that simple."

"Exactly," Curtis added. "Do you think Callie's movies are easy to shoot? Even I, a seasoned actor, had to do three or four takes to get it right."

"Let's give it a shot," Bernice said with a smile. "The next scene is just me and Ms. Sullivan, right? Ms. Gray, if I don't nail it in one take, I'll leave and pay the full compensation. But if I do, I want my hotel closer to the set, a better car, and timely communication about styling. Also, my dressing room shouldn't be smaller than the fourth female lead's."

Callie's face darkened. If Bernice hadn't spoken up, she wouldn't have known.

"Is what she said true?" Callie asked the crew's management sharply.

Mackenzie Kelly, head of the living group, stood up. "I sent someone to message her assistant yesterday. She arrived late and blamed us. She didn't want to stay with Sarah, so I had to arrange for her to stay farther away. There are only two good hotels in this remote area."

"You didn't want to stay with me?" Sarah was surprised. "Is it because I became the first female lead, and you felt uncomfortable?"

Bernice ignored Sarah, knowing she was a drama queen. "Callie, can we start now?"

Callie frowned, thinking Bernice's personality was too strong. She didn't like strong personalities in the crew, as they were hard to control. "Bernice, let me remind you, only two people have ever passed in one take under my direction. Don't be too confident."

Bernice smiled. "I have no choice. I don't want an ugly look, so I have to prove myself with my skills. But if I don't call 'cut,' it doesn't count."

"Of course," Callie nodded and looked at Sarah. "Get ready. You'll be doing scene five."

Sarah was stunned. "Isn't that scheduled for four in the afternoon?"

"Increase the difficulty to curb Bernice's arrogance," Callie said flatly.

Sarah was secretly pleased. Scene five was the most challenging for the second female lead, where she drove the protagonist to a dead end and tried to poison her.

Soon, the movie was ready to start.

With a call of "action," Bernice quickly got into character. She held a bowl of medicine, and although her face was clean, it gave off a sinister vibe.

"Leah, I'm here to see you." Bernice's voice sent chills down everyone's spine.

"What do you want?" Sarah looked at the medicine and panicked.

"Of course, I'm here to see you. You look so sick. Drink this medicine." Bernice reached out to her.

"Don't come any closer." Sarah shivered and tried to move away.

"I promise you won't feel any pain after drinking this." Bernice showed a creepy smile. "You won't feel pain or jealousy anymore. You'll go to a place where the living can't go, a place without worries."
