Chapter 341

Renting out the entire movie theater to catch a flick—that's an actual power move. Maybe he didn't want anyone to see him taking her to a movie.

Half an hour later, Joseph ushered her into the Starplex Cinema at the South Sky Mall, where the general manager greeted them and led them to the VIP couple's suite.

Cassie picked an action movie featuring her latest heartthrob, a movie she had planned to watch with Laura Miller.

Throughout the movie, Joseph held her tight against his chest. Over time, Cassie's back began to ache, though Joseph seemed utterly unaffected. His phone rang twice during the show—one call from Luna and another from Mildred.

He muted his phone without a second glance, slipped it into his pocket, then leaned down to her and asked, "Do you enjoy these types of movies?"

"They're okay." But she truly relished the communal experience of watching with a crowd.

"Next time I'm free, I'll accompany you," Joseph mentioned casually, his fingers gently squeezing her waist. "Does it still hurt?"

She stiffened, thinking he meant to have her tonight. "Not for at least a month."

He looked deeply into her eyes. "I don't need to be reminded. Dr. Olivia already filled me in, saying you were in great pain today."

"It's better now; it has already stopped hurting," Cassie confessed truthfully.

Sensing the complexity of her feelings, Joseph could only hold her closer, kissing her tenderly. His tone was gentle. "I promise, it won't happen again."

"Mhm."

Cassie was skeptical. Some wounds were indelible.

After the movie, Joseph took her straight back to their new place.

Unable to hold back, she asked, "You've been away on business for a week. Aren't you going back to the mansion?"

"No," he said decisively.

After a quick shower, he hopped into bed and fell asleep swiftly, the furrowed brows betraying his exhaustion from the past days.

Cassie checked her phone and came across a news snippet—paparazzi had captured Joseph returning to the States with Liam, who was stretchered off the plane and now hospitalized with injuries.

Two days later, Cassie found out where Liam was hospitalized. She went to visit him with gifts and flowers in hand.

Having not seen him for weeks, Liam looked gaunt and darker, with a bandage wrapped around his forehead. Lying bored in bed, he was engrossed in a video game. Spotting her, he waved, "Hold on, I'm about to win this round."

Cassie waited patiently by his side. When he finally put down his phone, she ventured, "Playing Battle Royale?"

"Why, do you play too? Let's be friends," Liam offered with a toothy grin.

After exchanging usernames and befriending each other on the game, Cassie broached the subject hesitantly, "I heard the news that there was trouble for you overseas..."

"Yeah, got caught up in a riot," Liam remarked with a wry smile. "Went days without food and got banged up a bit."

"I'm sorry," Cassie said, ridden with guilt—if it hadn't been for her involvement, he might not have crossed paths with Joseph's wrath.
"What are you apologizing for?" Liam chuckled, "It's just my bad luck."

"Liam, are you feeling any better today?"

At the door, Mabel and Marcus walked in together. Cassie hadn't expected to see them. She quickly got up. Her gaze involuntarily lingered on Marcus for a couple of seconds. So, this was Joseph's stepdad? Charming and gentlemanly indeed.

"Cassie, what are you doing here?" Mabel frowned upon seeing her.

"Mom, do you know her?" Liam smiled, "This is the lady I told you about, whose car had been tampered with. Cassie nearly lost her life, but she kept her cool and managed to save herself."

"Oh." Mabel had rarely seen her son praise a woman so much. She frowned subtly.
