Chapter 890
"It won't happen. I'll handle it myself," Joseph said in a low voice.
nbsp;
"That's great. There's no case in this world that Joseph can't win," Megan said, looking up at him with a slight smile.
nbsp;
Night fell at the Hernandez House, Joseph rarely came back, and when Matilda saw him, she looked displeased. "It's a surprise to see you here. What are you carrying?"
nbsp;
"The latest Barbie doll," Joseph said, walking over to Sophia, who was eating a snack. "Would you like it?"
nbsp;
He was never one to care about children's feelings, but Sophia's words yesterday had pained him and kept him awake all night.
nbsp;
He couldn't understand why he cared so much about Liam's daughter. It was maddening.
nbsp;
"No." Sophia turned her face away and ran to Matilda, looking down.
nbsp;
Matilda glared at Joseph. nbsp;"You demoted her father to a basic position at the company, making him a laughingstock. You have no right to try to win Sophia over."
nbsp;
"Liam told her that?" Joseph's handsome face darkened.
nbsp;
"No, he didn't," Sophia looked up timidly but spoke loudly. nbsp;"Other relatives were discussing it. What did my dad do wrong? Why are you treating him like this?"
nbsp;
Joseph was at a loss for words. He couldn't tell Sophia the truth; a child's world was too simple.
nbsp;
"I know, it must be like Aunt Megan said. Because Uncle Joseph and Dad have different fathers, Uncle Joseph doesn't like my dad," Sophia said, her eyes red with grievance.
nbsp;
"Megan told you that?" Matilda's face changed instantly. "What kind of woman says such things in front of a child? It's too much."
nbsp;
"Matilda..." Joseph's face was grim.
nbsp;
But Matilda said sternly, "I heard you've been spending every day at the hospital with that Megan. I ask you, were you deprived of women in your past life? She's already cheated on you, and the whole of Whisperlyn City is talking about it. How can you be so foolish?"
nbsp;
Joseph said nothing, his face taut.
nbsp;
Walter came in, leaning on his cane. "Say no more. Anyway, your grandson can't live without this woman. Let him mess around. He's the head of the Hernandez family now; no one can say anything."
nbsp;
"What else can I do? If he marries Megan again, you two can go abroad and have a secret wedding. Don't invite us; we won't attend. It's too shameful," Matilda said angrily.
nbsp;
"Forget it. I'm going to my room," nbsp;Joseph replied.
nbsp;
Joseph placed the Barbie doll on the table and turned to leave.
nbsp;
As he descended the stairs, a soft voice called from behind. nbsp;"Uncle Joseph, wait."
nbsp;
"Sophia, don't you dislike me?" Joseph turned back, a hint of bitterness in his eyes.
nbsp;
Sophia bit her lip, her clear eyes red. nbsp;"I just wanted to tell you, Uncle Joseph, that Aunt Cassie didn't kidnap me. Before I went, Aunt Cassie told me clearly that she wanted to save a friend, but you had nbsp;caught that person. She had no choice but to make you nbsp;think I was kidnapped to save that friend."
nbsp;
"You knew all along." Joseph was shocked. He had thought innocent Sophia had been deceived.
nbsp;
Sophia said earnestly, "Dad also said that person was good and often helped Aunt Cassie, so I wanted to help him. I'm sorry I lied to you. nbsp;But I just wanted to tell you that Aunt Cassie didn't hurt me, and she didn't lie to me. I like her very much and will continue to like her. Even though I'm young, I can tell who's good."
nbsp;
Joseph was speechless. nbsp;"You're just a naive child; you don't understand these things."
