Chapter 1273: The Clown

"I didn't, I didn't."

Olivia was shaking like a leaf, denying it all.

She'd been busting her butt trying to keep Declan, Everett, and Isabella happy. Thought she could pull the wool over their eyes by being all sneaky.

She'd even patted herself on the back, thinking these folks were easy marks.

But Declan? He saw right through her.

Declan was scary as hell.

"Didn't?" Declan scoffed, "You know why I kept my mouth shut? 'Cause I thought you were Isabella's kid, and I knew she owed you. So I played dumb. I've seen too many like you in the Wittelsbach family. You want cash? Fine, I got cash. But you want more, don't ya?"

"Declan, you got it all wrong. Did Cassie put you up to this? Don't let her mess with your head," Olivia pleaded.

Cassie couldn't take it anymore, "Olivia, you know what your big screw-up is?"

Cassie stepped up, "You wanna be top dog. You think everyone's buying your fake act. You fooled Arthur once, so you think you can fool everyone. But you forget, your background and upbringing make your tricks look like a joke to people who know their stuff."

"Cassie, quit stirring the pot. You're the fake one," Olivia shot back, looking all hurt and sad, "It's always like this, I'm the victim, but everyone falls for your lies."

Cassie sneered, "Didn't David warn you? You're messing with Declan, the head honcho of the Wittelsbach family. In his forties, he's sharp and knows his stuff. When you were in diapers, he was already a big deal in Neya City. He's seen it all. If he wasn't smart, he wouldn't be where he is. You think your little games can fool him?"

"She's right."

Declan gave Cassie a nod, "Olivia, you put Isabella up to kidnapping Sophia, didn't you? I don't buy that she'd do it on her own."

Olivia scrambled to defend herself, "Yeah, the kidnapping was on us, but I told them not to hurt her. I just wanted to make Cassie hand over Everett."

"Cut the crap," Cassie interrupted, "Everett's with you and David, isn't he?"

"That's a lie," Olivia quickly turned to Declan, "Everett's my brother. I'd protect him, not hurt him. Declan, don't listen to her."

Declan felt sick, "Those kidnappers? I already nabbed them. Sent 'em to the cops, you know what that means."

Olivia felt a wave of relief but kept shaking her head, "I didn't. I'm innocent."

"Take her away. Send her to the police," Declan nodded at Cassie.

Joel was thrilled. She didn't expect to nab Olivia so easily today; it was a real bonus. She was about to step up when Cassie stopped her.

"Hold up."

"What's the deal?" Joel asked, curious. "Once the cops grill her, they'll know Olivia's the kidnapper."

"I'm not so sure," Cassie said, ice-cold. "What if those kidnappers pin it on Isabella instead?"

Olivia's eyes widened. She didn't expect Cassie to nail it.

In a flash, Declan's big hand was around her neck again. "Fine, someone lock her up."

"You can't do this," Olivia panicked. "If Isabella finds out, she won't forgive you."

"That's if you're really her daughter," Declan's eyes bore into her. "Take her away."

"Of course I am! The paternity test proves it," Olivia gambled everything. "Declan, you're just having an affair with Cassie. You two are trying to fool Isabella, you hypocritical jerk."

She started cursing, and Declan's face darkened until someone finally dragged Olivia away and locked her up.

"Get outta here."

Declan picked up Isabella, turned around, and left, then got in the car and drove off.

Cassie stood there, stunned, with Declan's words echoing in her mind, 'That's if you're really her daughter.'

It seemed like Declan already suspected Olivia was a fake.

But even if he believed it, would Isabella?

She smirked bitterly. Honestly, it didn't matter to her who Isabella's daughter was anymore.

Thinking of the nasty things Isabella had just said to her, she felt a bit sick. She hated Isabella, hated having such a mother.

She didn't want to acknowledge Isabella as her mom at all.

"Ms. Brooks, where did Declan take Isabella?" Joel asked, puzzled.

"She was out cold, probably to the hospital." Cassie picked up Sophia. "You head to the police station, check on the kidnappers, see how the interrogation's going. But I doubt Olivia left any evidence lying around."

"Got it."

Cassie got in the car with Sophia.

Sophia sat in her lap the whole way. "Mommy, was it that grandma who had me kidnapped? She's so bad."

"Yeah, she's really bad. We don't like her."

Cassie gently held her little head. "How about I get you your favorite chocolate, okay?"

"No." Sophia shivered. "I don't want candy anymore. Something bad always happens when I get candy. I just want to hold Mommy."

Cassie looked at Sophia's fragile little face. She knew Sophia would remember this for a long time.

After all, Sophia was so young and had already faced several life-and-death situations. Who wouldn't be scared?

The car took them back to the Hernandez House.

Seeing Sophia return, Oliver rushed over and hugged her tightly, his eyes red.

Despite their usual bickering, Oliver valued Sophia more than anything.

This time, seeing Sophia kidnapped right in front of him left a deep scar on Oliver.

"Oliver, I almost didn't get to see you again. I was so scared." Sophia hugged him and cried loudly.

"It's okay, I swear, I'll protect you from now on." Oliver said seriously, clenching his fist.
