Chapter 212

""Actually, taking it back might be quite simple,"" Andrew suddenly spoke up.

The whole family's attention snapped to him, their eyes alight with anticipation.
""Andrew, spit it out, we're family here,"" Olivia Brooks urged. ""The moment Cassie steps down, I'll marry you.""

Andrew squinted thoughtfully, ""Richard from the Hernandez clan is coming to check out Madison soon. If you win his favor, the execs and board members of Peace Group will naturally side with you.""

Olivia Brooks and the others lit up with excitement.

Robert, particularly animated, trembled with anticipation. ""The Hernandez family is like the top dynasty in the city. Even though Richard isn't a direct heir, just a connection to them would raise our stature immensely. Cassie would hardly be a concern.""

""Exactly,"" Andrew nodded. ""Richard's assistant is distantly related to the Joneses, my family. I'll be hosting him personally. I'll introduce you, but you'll need to prepare the gifts to charm the Hernandez side. Richard has a particular fondness for diamonds, you know.""

""Andrew, thank you. I regret not meeting you sooner—you're the man I should rely on,"" Olivia Brooks said, clearly touched.

Andrew fought to hide his disdain. ""It's what I should do.""

Peace Group.
6:30 PM.

Cassie had just turned off her office lights and was about to leave when Edward's grandson greeted her warmly.

""Cassie, headed out? I'd love to take you to dinner. There's this great Western restaurant I know...""

Cassie felt overwhelmed. Ever since she had started consolidating power at the company, the board members were relentless in trying to set her up with their grandsons or sons.

""No thanks, I plan to eat at home..."" she declined politely.

""Let me drive you then,"" Samuel offered warmly. ""That bag looks heavy, let me help.""

However, before he could touch it, Joe intercepted his hand with a stern look that sent shivers down Samuel's spine. He'd heard rumors of Cassie's cold and intimidating bodyguard, especially her ""gift"" for delivering a sharp slap.

""If there's a next time, I won't hesitate to break your hand,"" Joe warned icily.

Embarrassed, Samuel withdrew his hand. ""You do know who I am, right? Never mind, I won't make a big deal out of it.""

As the elevator arrived, he hurried inside. ""Cassie, have you heard of the Queen's Necklace? It's said to have been given by a king to his beloved queen back in the 50s and 60s in France. They say whoever wears this necklace finds true love. It's coming up for auction here in Madison; I'd like to get it for you as a gift.""
""Thanks, but no thanks. I'm not interested.""

Samuel clung to her like a piece of gum that just couldn't be scraped off.

As Cassie stepped out of the building, she was both shocked and thrilled to spot a familiar figure standing in the plaza by the entrance. The neon lights of the night were coming alive one by one, and there was Joseph by the fountain, dressed in a sharp black tailored suit, topped with a cream-colored overcoat that could've put him straight off the runways of Paris Fashion Week. His presence was all elegance and his good looks were undeniably striking.

Yet, in the depth of his dark eyes, a shadow flickered when he saw the man accompanying Cassie.

""Joey, what are you doing here?"" Cassie, oblivious to undercurrents, sweetly ran over and clung to his arm.

The iciness in Joseph’s gaze thawed bit by bit as he glanced impassively at Samuel, ""Looks like I timed my visit wrong.""

""Who's this, Cassie?"" Samuel couldn't hide his irritation. Both were in coats, but this guy made him feel like a country bumpkin in comparison."
