Chapter 288
"“Where am I?”
She recalled last night's incident with Laura Miller. She had gone there to help, and then ran into Joseph's friend who wanted to teach her a lesson. She had to drink a lot for a thousand dollars. It seemed someone had come in, and she might have kissed them.
Then, there was a helicopter ride.
Indeed, she was too drunk and confused. Where would one find a helicopter in the middle of the night?
Had someone taken advantage of her in that condition?
She was on the verge of tears.
Trembling, she lifted the covers and discovered she was still wearing the bunny costume, seemingly untouched. At least there was that.
Looking around, she noticed what appeared to be a walk-in closet. She needed a garment to cover herself.
The door suddenly opened just as she was about to crawl out from under the covers.
Joseph walked in, his indigo robe radiating refined elegance. Cassie froze at the sight of him.
""Why is it you?""
Joseph remained silent, his deep gaze resting on her as she stood barefoot on the white carpet, the bunny ears on her head wobbling with each movement.
He walked toward her.
At first, Cassie was shocked to see him, but his familiar gaze sparked something in her, and with a flash of embarrassment, remembering her outfit, she quickly spun around and dove back under the covers. ""Don't... don't come any closer.""
Her defensive attitude was like a bucket of cold water over him. Joseph returned to his senses with a scoff. ""You weren’t ashamed to dance in front of men like that, but you’re playing coy in front of me. You've got some nerve.""
Cassie glared at her ex-partner, her eyes reddening with embarrassed fury. ""It's all because of you. You're the most disgraceful ex I've ever had.""
""Hey, Cassie, don't bite the hand that feeds you,"" Joseph replied, his face darkening. ""Last night, you were parading yourself in front of those guys. You wouldn't be standing here in one piece if I hadn't shown up.""
""Why do you think I went out there to dance? You must know the truth, and sometimes I think you and your buddy set me up."" Cassie took a deep breath, trying to calm herself down. ""Where's Laura?""
Joseph looked at her coldly, saying nothing.
Furious, Cassie snapped, ""If anything happens to Laura, I'll haunt you forever.""
""Really? How do you plan on haunting me?"" Joseph slowly walked over to the bed, leaning on it with his arms, his handsome frame bending down close to her face. His eyes were mocking as he gazed at her. ""Do you think you can?""
Cassie was furious, but she felt a deep powerlessness. ""Fine, I don't care what you think, but last night, I followed your friend's plan, and you both stomped over my dignity. Are you happy now? Can you let me and my friend be?""
""You want me to let you off the hook? Dream on. You shouldn't have left Madison and walked into my life."" Joseph flipped around, sitting on the bed and playing a video on his phone, his tone teasing. ""What would Leo do if I released this video? Do you think you'd be welcomed back to the Chapman family?""
Cassie saw herself in the video and felt humiliated. She wished she could crawl into a hole.
She couldn't imagine the fallout if the video got out. the Chapman family's reputation would be tarnished because of her, and with no way of gaining their support, how would she investigate her mother's death?
""Joseph, delete that!"" She lunged for the phone, but he dodged, causing her to lose her balance and fall against him.
From this angle, her bunny girl costume was even more provocative.
Joseph's eyes lingered on her chest. ""Trying to seduce me?""
""I'm not..."" Her protest was cut short by his hand gently patting her buttocks.
""Joseph, you're being obscene!"" Cassie blushed crimson."
