Chapter 1370 Tears Falling
Laura was fuming, thinking about how Michael just flat-out denied calling her useless. Her face turned icy.
Michael leaned in, "Hey, Laura, can we talk for a sec?"
"I'm busy," she shot back, not even glancing his way.
Why should she drop everything just 'cause he asked?
And why step out just to hear him call her useless again?
The more she thought about it, the more pissed off she got.
She used to be a top dog at Harvard. Her education and accolades were nothing to scoff at, right?
Michael couldn't drag her out, so he plopped down next to her, saying he'd stick around.
He might be clueless about relationships, but the guy's sharp and a whiz at card games.
After a bit, he got antsy, "Hey, don't play that card, this one's better."
Laura, being stubborn, did the exact opposite. If he said not to play a card, she'd play it.
"That's game!" Michael's cousin laughed, "I won."
"See? I told you not to play it, but no, you had to." Michael nagged.
A bit later, he started up again, "Don't play this one, you lost again. It's so obvious, how can you not see what others want? You lost money again, wrong card, don't play this one, oh my God, how can you be so dense."
Laura felt more and more humiliated, her face getting darker.
If it weren't for the people around, she would've chucked the cards at Michael's face.
She fumed, 'So he's good at card games, big deal. What if I'm not? What if I don't want to think?'
Everyone felt the tension, but Michael was totally oblivious.
Someone cleared their throat, "Michael, can you shut up? Can you leave and stop bugging us while we play?"
"Why? Laura hasn't won a single game yet." Michael looked at her, "Next round, listen to me, I guarantee you'll win."
"No thanks, Maeve might be hungry. I'll go check on her, you stay and play." Laura forced a smile and got up.
"Hey, I'll go with you."
Michael quickly followed.
Someone sighed, "Michael's so sharp in business, but in private, how can he be so clueless?"
"Yeah, I just saw Laura almost in tears."
"If that were my husband, I'd definitely slap him. It's just a game, why keep nagging?"
"No, I need to talk to Caroline. If Michael keeps this up, they're definitely headed for a split."
Michael remained clueless.
He kept chasing after Laura, but she was walking too fast.
Michael had no choice but to grab her arm, "Hold up, we need to talk."
Laura yanked her arm back, not wanting to deal with him at all.
"Don't go." Michael pulled her in front of him, and when he saw Laura's red eyes, he was stunned.
"Why are you crying?" He panicked. He was terrified of girls crying. He wasn't even this flustered when Megan cried, because he knew Laura rarely cried in front of him. The last time she cried like this was when she was giving birth.
"Get lost." Laura's voice was hoarse, and she glared at him coldly.
"What's wrong?" Michael was at a loss. He would rather she be hysterical than like this, "Is it because you lost some money earlier? It's no big deal."
Laura laughed in anger.
How could he not know why she was crying?
Of course, the saddest part was that he really didn't know.
"Michael, let go, I don't want to see you."Laura was afraid that if she saw him again, she wouldn't be able to resist biting him.
"Don't take your anger out on me. If you had listened to me, you wouldn't have lost."
Laura really didn't want to listen anymore.
She couldn't take it anymore and pushed him hard, "Can you stay away from me? Stop yelling in front of me all the time. You are really annoying."
Michael was caught off guard, his tall body pushed down onto the grass.
He looked at her, breathing heavily.
What did she just say?
She told him to stay away from her.
And said he was really annoying?
Michael felt the fire in his chest ignite.
Once, Megan had said the same thing.
Now, Laura said it too.
As a man, was he really that annoying, that much of a failure?
So, was he just doomed to never have any woman like him?
"Enough, Laura."
He stood up angrily, his tone harsh, "You think you're so great? You make me sick. With your attitude, no one would marry you if it weren't for me."
"That would be great, and the same goes for you."
Laura took a step back, tears streaming down her face.
She turned and ran away quickly.
Her tears fell on the grass.
Michael's mind buzzed, suddenly realizing how vicious his words were.
But he hesitated.
Why chase after her? She didn't like him anyway.
She found him annoying.
If he got closer, she would only hate him more.
He stood there dazed for a while.
Soon, Caroline came over angrily with a few people from the card table.
"Michael, how did I raise such a stupid son?" Caroline slapped him.
"Mom, what are you doing?" Michael was stunned by the slap.
"What did you say to Laura to make her so angry that she left with the baby? The Millers just went after her."
