Chapter 1162 How Come
Joseph frowned. His memories of the past were hazy, but he still remembered Olivia.
Olivia seemed like a real piece of work, and he was the one who sent her to the nightclub, but she managed to escape.
"Cassie, don't worry. I'll help you get rid of Olivia this time," Joseph said firmly.
"You're wrong. If Olivia's back, something must've happened to her over the years. She might be even tougher now," Cassie said, frowning. "I heard Robert and Helen are getting out of prison. I didn't get it before, but now I do. Olivia must be behind it."
Joseph was shocked. "Weren't they supposed to be in for decades?"
"Yeah, for murder and stealing a huge family fortune, but they're getting out after just three years," Cassie said bitterly. "What kind of person has Olivia become?"
"Cassie, no matter what, I'll protect you," Joseph said, hugging her tightly. He felt her trembling and wasn't sure if it was from anger or something else.
"Joseph, I lost to Olivia," Cassie said with hatred.
Olivia killed Natalie, and soon after, Robert and Helen were released.
Olivia killed Nina, whose body was never found, and now Olivia's back.
"I feel so useless," Cassie said, eyes red. "My mom left nothing behind, not even a grave. You still have to deal with Felix, and I have to deal with David. We don't know when Megan will strike again, and now Olivia's here. Can we handle all this?"
"Cassie, we've been surrounded by these people for years, and we're still standing. They can't see our cards any more than we can see theirs," Joseph said, stroking her hair. "If you ever get too tired, we can leave. As long as I have you and the kids, anywhere is home."
Cassie was moved, thinking, 'Yes. No matter how many enemies there are, if we can't handle it, we shouldn't fight head-on. I still have Oliver and Sophia to protect.'
"You're right, but those bad people are the ones who did wrong. I don't want to leave in disgrace," Cassie said, taking a deep breath. "It's good that Olivia's back. I need to settle the scores with her."
"Let's take care of things here first," Joseph said softly.
Cassie nodded.
Isabella's grave was destroyed, so she had to ask the cemetery manager to re-carve the tombstone and report it to the police.
Unfortunately, the cemetery was sparsely populated, and it seemed the grave digger came from the back mountain, where there were no cameras. The police found no clues.
In the hotel, Everett lay lazily on the recliner by the floor-to-ceiling window.
He held a goblet with deep red wine. As the recliner rocked, the wine swayed.
Everett had sighed countless times.
He finally liked a woman, but she already had a husband and kids before he could get close.
Even though Everett liked Cassie, he had principles. He knew he shouldn't mess with a family.
"Mr. Wittelsbach," Manuel walked in. "I've completed the tasks you assigned."
Manuel handed over a photo, and Everett took it. It was a picture of Isabella.
"My mom isn't dead. Why set up a tombstone? Isn't that cursing her?" Everett said gloomily. "Did you put the warning note inside as I instructed?"
"Yes, the cemetery staff should contact Cassie. She'll understand when she sees it."
"Well, she's done so many guilty things that she's probably scared now. She offended the Wittelsbach family, so she's doomed," Everett said, sipping his wine, a cold glint in his eyes. "How are the arrangements for Robert and Helen?"
"They'll be out in three days."
"Alright, I'll pick them up myself." Everett waved his hand.
"Okay."
After Manuel left, Everett's assistant, Daniele Romano, came in.
"Mr. Wittelsbach, here's the info you asked for about Cassie."
"Give it to me," Everett said lazily, reaching out.
Daniele handed over the information. When Everett opened it and saw the photo on the first page, he jumped up, knocking over the wine glass and spilling wine all over the brown carpet.
"Mr. Wittelsbach," Daniele was startled, seeing Everett's shocked expression.
"How come?" Everett murmured.
He couldn't mistake her. The Cassie in the photo was Chloe, the woman who saved him yesterday and had dinner with him last night.
No wonder she looked a bit like Isabella and felt familiar.
It turned out Chloe was Cassie, Everett's cousin.
But Everett never thought she was Cassie.
Olivia told Everett that Cassie was despicable, cunning, and vicious, but Everett thought Cassie was kind and gentle.
Everett thought, 'Could Cassie be that good at pretending? But she didn't know me. Our meeting yesterday was a coincidence. Does she need to pretend in front of me?'
"Mr. Wittelsbach, is something wrong?" Daniele asked, seeing his alternating expressions of coldness and confusion.
"Are you sure she's Cassie?" Everett asked.
"Yes, Cassie isn't a celebrity, but she's quite famous in Madison, mainly because of her relationship with David and Joseph," Daniele said. "And Cassie, I don't know how to describe her. She's David's wife, but she openly got back together with her ex, Joseph."
