Chapter 977 Joseph Stangled Megan
"It's not your fault. Even if you had told me the truth back then, I would have suspected you were bought off by Cassie. You did the right thing," Joseph murmured. "I never expected Megan to be so ruthless. She played me for a fool. These past three years, you had to deal with Megan. It must have been tough."
"It nothing," Nathaniel said, lowering his head and ultimately deciding not to tell Joseph about Sophia.
Even if Joseph had realized it now, some wounds could never be healed unless Joseph and Cassie remarried and she revealed the truth about the child.
After all, Cassie had suffered so much. If she wanted the child to reunite with Joseph, she would say it herself.
"Nathaniel, get the car ready. I'm going to Seaside Haven. It's time to reclaim the breakup fee I gave Megan," Joseph suddenly ordered coldly.
"Alright." Nathaniel's eyes lit up. He had always thought the breakup fee Joseph gave was excessive, but it wasn't his place to say.
Joseph laughed at himself. "I was really foolish. Megan played me like a fool, ruined my marriage, and caused me to lose my child. When we broke up, I gave her tens of billions as a breakup fee. I will reclaim every debt."
"But Mr. Hernandez, if this gets out, the public might criticize you. And Mr. Jude..." Nathaniel said honestly. "Megan definitely won't return the money. Despite her usual indifference to money, she actually values it a lot. Megan doesn't want you to know how vain she is."
"Michael is just like I was. If he doesn't cut ties with Megan, he'll regret it eventually." Joseph sneered. "Don't worry about it. Why would I care about my reputation? I don't have it now."
An hour later, Nathaniel drove up to the entrance of Seaside Haven.
Megan had been overwhelmed these past few days. Lucas had taught Nathan a lesson, and Nathan screamed in pain every day in the hospital, cursing everyone.
Just as she returned to Seaside Haven, Nathaniel drove in.
Megan decided to have the guard not open the gate and pretended not to be home.
However, Nathaniel drove straight through the gate.
The car rolled over the lawn and stopped at the villa's entrance. Nathaniel honked the horn loudly.
Before long, Megan rushed out, pretending to be in a hurry. "Who is it, causing trouble at my house? Butler, call the police immediately."
Before she could finish, Joseph stepped out of the back seat. He was in a black suit. His tie was impeccably tied. As he walked over elegantly, his chiseled face seemed to be hidden in the shadows, cold and dangerous.
"Joseph." Megan's pretty face froze, thinking only Nathaniel had come.
Although Megan no longer cared for Joseph, she suspected he might have discovered something.
"This is your home?" Joseph looked around. He had lived here for three years, but on the way, Nathaniel told him this was the place he and Cassie had once loved, where Cassie had accompanied him during his illness.
"This is my home," Megan said, not understanding Joseph's expression.
"Occupying someone else's home must feel pretty good, right?" Joseph stepped up the stairs, his eyes cold. "Because this was where Cassie and I lived, you wanted to move here. Did taking someone else's place gives you a sense of accomplishment?"
Megan suddenly became very nervous, thinking, 'How did Joseph figure it out?'
"Joseph, I don't know what you're talking about." Megan tried to stay calm. "We've broken up. Are you humiliating me?"
"You're quite a drama queen. No wonder Lucas, Michael, and I were all deceived by you." Joseph chuckled, looking at Megan as if seeing her for the first time. "Megan, did you ever love me? Was it my money or my power you loved?"
"Joseph, it's all in the past. I've been hurt enough by you. I want to move on..." Before Megan could finish, Joseph grabbed her arm.
Joseph yanked Megan in front of him with a disdainful look. "Back then, I trusted you, and you used hypnosis on me while treating my illness? That malicious method could have turned me into an idiot. Don't you know that? Or did you not care if I became an idiot as long as you got what you wanted? If you couldn't have what you want, you'd destroy it."
"Hypnosis? Are you crazy?" Megan shouted. "If I hadn't cured you, you might have ended up in a mental hospital."
"I'd rather be in a mental hospital. At least my wife Cassie and my child would be there." Joseph's eyes were filled with a fierce red, and his hatred almost made him lose control. "I've never met a woman as vicious as you. What did I ever owe you? Yes, you went missing in Austin, but it wasn't because of me. From the moment we met, I gave you everything you wanted. I took care of you even more than I ever did for Cassie. I thought Nathan was bad, but Megan, you're even worse. You used hypnosis on me, and then you lied about Cassie having a mental illness, making me lock her up. You vile woman." Joseph couldn't hold back any longer and dragged Megan, throwing her into the swimming pool.
Megan emerged from the water in terror, and Joseph took her by the throat, making her face turn red. "Megan, don't bother denying it. I went to Silverwood and found it out. My memories don't match what I've experienced. You altered my memories while treating me! You said Rex forced you, but that was a lie, too, right? You went to Rex because I couldn't satisfy you. Then, when you wanted to get married, you had him killed, didn't you?"
"Joseph, I didn't. How could I ever hurt you?" Megan cried hoarsely.
"You wouldn't hurt me?" Joseph laughed, tears streaming down his face. "Haven't you hurt me enough? What lousy luck! I should have met you and fallen in love with you. When we broke up, I even felt I owed you. I gave you tens of billions as a breakup fee. Megan, you're really something."
