Chapter 254

""Cassie, if you really love me, you'll stop seeing David. This is your last chance,"" Joseph said, his deep voice hoarse with emotion.

Cassie was taken aback. Although she was mad at him, even hateful today, she still loved him. ""What about you? Do you love me?”

Could it really be love if he would call out another woman's name even in his drunken stupor?

""I can love you or stop loving you just as quickly.""
With that, Joseph left without another word, his face a mask of indifference.

Sitting on the bed, Cassie felt a sense of daze and loss. So his love was that conditional and easy to retract. Was it because it wasn't strong enough?

In the study, Joseph stood by the floor-to-ceiling windows, holding a glass of red wine and looking out at the snow-covered ground. He hoped Cassie wouldn't disappoint him. Yes, he loved her, but if she continued to get tangled up with David despite his feelings, he was prepared to let that love go.

If necessary, he would just support David's career more generously later on. He wouldn't let his woman stay by his side out of a sense of debt.

Joseph downed the red wine in one go. He was clearly agitated.

Walter stood silently behind him. ""Mr. Hernandez, why not just tell Miss Brooks the truth about the photo?""

""What's the point in telling her? Would she believe me? Right now, David's her hero. She'll think I'm just trying to drive a wedge,"" Joseph scoffed cynically.

Walter couldn't argue. He couldn’t help but agree that David had played a strong card. To give up a kidney for Cassie was a serious sacrifice. Any woman would be moved by such an act.

In the dead of night, fresh from a bath, Cassie sat on her bed in a daze before ultimately picking up her phone to send a WhatsApp message to Laura Miller, asking her to visit David in the hospital on her behalf.

Laura Miller: ""OMG, David gave up a kidney for you?! What are you thinking? Aren't you moved?""

Cassie: ""I didn't expect it. I owe him so much I can never repay it all in this lifetime.""

Laura Miller: ""Don't dwell on it too much. Let's just take things as they come. Day after tomorrow, I'm planning to take Benjamin back home for the family get-together. Then, on New Year's eve, we'll join the Jacksons for the celebration.""

Cassie: ""You've decided then?""

Laura Miller: ""I haven't spoken to him in two weeks, but he's promised to cut back on seeing Isla and even set her up with a guy. I think I owe him another chance—I love him too much.""

Cassie: ""Congratulations on finding your Mr. Right.""

No sooner had the text been sent than the bedroom door swung open. Her hand trembled, and she instinctively blacked out her phone screen and set it down.

""Who are you chatting with?"" Joseph entered, smelling faintly of red wine, his handsome face flushed. ""Show me the phone.""
