Chapter 50 I Have a Great Figure

"Shut up." A glimmer flashed in Joseph's eyes behind his glasses.

Cassie sensed his rising anger and quickly placed the porridge on the table. "You've been working for a while; you must be hungry."

Joseph looked at the porridge, which seemed quite appetizing.

"Cassie, are you trying to make me chubby?"

"No, you still have a great figure," Cassie said. "Even if you did get chubby, I wouldn't mind. Maybe if no other woman likes you, you'd consider me."

Joseph glanced at her, a disdainful smile tugging at his lips. "With you going to the hospital every other day, I can't afford to take care of you."

"No worries. I'll be out making money to support you soon," Cassie said confidently.

"I don't dare to imagine that. I'm afraid I won't live to see that day." Joseph stirred the porridge with a spoon.

Feeling utterly belittled, Cassie left the study in frustration. He looked down on her so much that she swore she would prove him wrong.

At 1:00 AM, Cassie woke up from a nightmare, drenched in sweat.

She quickly turned on the light, feeling the warmth gradually calming her down.

She had dreamt of being locked in that dark house again, with eerie noises at night.

Terrified, she curled up into a ball, too scared to stay in her room alone.

After hesitating for a long time, she nervously knocked on the master bedroom door, clutching her blanket.

"Who is it?" Woken up in the middle of the night, Joseph was somewhat irritated.

"It's me. I need something."

There was silence for half a minute. Just as Cassie was about to give up, the door suddenly swung open.

Joseph stood there with slightly messy hair, his gaze intimidating. "You better have a good reason."

Cassie blinked at his hastily buttoned pajamas, thinking he must have just thrown them on.

"I'm scared," she said, looking up at him with vulnerable eyes, her skin pale from fright. The blanket in her arms puzzled him.

"Is this another one of your tricks?" Joseph admitted she looked quite pitiful, but he had been busy all day and had to get up early for court tomorrow. He was exhausted. "It's the middle of the night; if you don't want to sleep, I do."

"No." Cassie really didn't want to stay in her room alone. She mustered the courage to grab his sleeve. "Ever since I was locked in the Brooks Manor, I can't stay alone at night. When I have nightmares, I'm really scared. Let me sleep on the floor in your room. I'm not faking it."

"Didn't you sleep just fine in the hospital?"

"There were nurses with me in the hospital." Cassie's eyelashes trembled, and there was a row of bite marks on her lower lip.

Joseph saw this and frowned.

He had personally rescued her, and he had been to the Brooks Manor. That place was creepy and dark, with no lights. Even some men would be traumatized after being locked up there for three days, let alone a woman.

Seeing his silence, Cassie quickly said, "I promise I won't disturb you."

"You better remember what you said." Joseph returned to his bed without expression.

Seeing his agreement, Cassie quickly made a bed on the floor beside his.
Joseph stayed alert for a while, but seeing she made no moves, he soon fell asleep.

He didn't know how long he had slept before Cassie's crying woke him up. "Please open the door. It's so cold and dark, and I'm so scared."
