Chapter 1459 Joseph, Hand Over Megan
"Mr. Jude, sorry, we thought Ms. Ray was asleep. It must have been the doctor who checked on her last night," the bodyguard said, looking regretful.
"Check the surveillance, now," Michael snapped as he got up and started getting dressed.
A million thoughts raced through his mind in that brief moment.
After hanging up, he immediately dialed Lucas's number.
"Do you know what time it is?" Lucas's voice came through, barely hiding his irritation.
"Lucas, Megan is missing. Did Joseph ask you for help with this?" Michael demanded. "She was in your hospital, with bodyguards at the door, and now she's been gone for hours. I talked to the bodyguards, and it seems the doctor who checked on Megan tonight is the issue."
"You think Joseph and I conspired to take Megan?" Lucas asked coldly, rubbing his temples.
"I don't want to doubt you, but I can't think of any other reason," Michael said, frustration evident in his voice. "Those bodyguards are from EchoReach. Taking someone from under their watch isn't something just anyone can do. The only people who have a grudge against Megan are Cassie and Joseph."
"I'm not aware of this," Lucas said flatly. "I haven't heard Joseph mention it either."
"I don't care if you truly don't know or are pretending not to. Megan disappeared from your hospital, and it's your responsibility," Michael said, losing patience. He knew how ruthless Joseph could be, and Megan had been missing for so long that he didn't know if she was still alive.
"Lucas, I'm begging you. I owe Megan too much. She's suffered so much. I was planning to send her abroad. Why can't we just let the past be the past?" Michael pleaded, his voice breaking. "If something happens to Megan, I'll live with guilt for the rest of my life."
"I'll have the surveillance checked, but I hope you understand that I won't get involved in your issues with Joseph," Lucas said impatiently before hanging up.
He then dialed Joseph's number, but no one answered. He had to notify the hospital staff to quickly investigate Megan's disappearance.
Meanwhile, Michael headed to the Hernandez House with his men.
In the early morning on Snowford Evergreen, a line of cars drove up.
In the spacious master bedroom, Joseph was holding Cassie as they slept soundly. Sophia and Oliver had been pushed to the side by the two adults. Fortunately, there was a guardrail on the other side, so Oliver didn't fall off the bed.
Although Sophia and Oliver initially resented being pushed aside by their parents, they eventually accepted it, as every morning they would find their parents cuddled together, no matter how much they protested.
Suddenly, there was a soft knock on the door.
"Mr. Hernandez, there's an urgent matter," the butler called from outside.
Joseph and Cassie woke up almost simultaneously, but Cassie was too tired to move. Joseph had kept her up until midnight, and she was completely exhausted.
Joseph tenderly touched her head and got up to open the door. The butler was standing outside.
"Mr. Jude has brought EchoReach's men to storm the estate. He's got too many people, and Dragon's men aren't here tonight. You need to get out there quick; the main gate's about to be breached," the butler said urgently, keeping his voice low.
Joseph's face darkened.
Cassie, who had caught bits of the conversation, was suddenly wide awake. She dragged her tired body out of bed. "Why is he storming the estate?"
"He wants you to hand over Megan," the butler said, looking at Joseph with a troubled expression.
Joseph was stunned, then a flash of anger crossed his face. Cassie was surprised. "Megan is missing?"
"Seems like it," the butler answered vaguely.
"You stay with the kids. I'll handle this," Joseph instructed, throwing on a coat and heading to the main gate.
When Joseph arrived, the security guards were already overwhelmed. EchoReach's people had driven through, even breaking the gate.
An SUV pulled in, and Michael got out, his face full of anger. "Joseph, hand over Megan."
Joseph's face was cold, and a vein throbbed on his forehead. "Are you out of your mind? You've always protected Megan like she's gold. I haven't even seen her."
"Joseph, don't lie to me. Megan disappeared from the hospital last night. Who else but you could pull this off?" Michael said, not in the mood to argue. "I know you've always resented Megan for hypnotizing you and causing your divorce from Cassie. But she's been punished, and you've got your memory back. Why can't you let her go?"
"I told you, I didn't kidnap her." Joseph was also surprised. He had planned to act in the next few days, but Megan's early disappearance was indeed strange.
"Do you think I'll believe you?" Michael sneered. "Of course, you won't admit it. Admitting to kidnapping is a crime. But you've been planning to harm Megan for a long time. Dragon's people were watching her apartment, and they were also at the hospital. If it's not you, it's Cassie. You two must hand her over tonight, or don't blame me for being rude."
"And what will you do?" Cassie walked over, wearing a robe, her hair slightly tousled by the cold night wind.
Joseph immediately went to her, warming her cold hands in his. "I told you not to come out."
"I just want to see how far Michael will go for Megan," Cassie said, glaring at Michael. "You've been dragging your feet on divorcing Laura, and now you're causing trouble for us over Megan. Have you ever thought about Laura and your kid?"
"Cassie, stop changing the subject. I'll say it one last time, hand over Megan," Michael shouted impatiently. "Don't push me."
Joseph's eyes grew colder. "Are you really going to break ties with me over Megan?"
"Megan is a pitiful woman. I promised to send her abroad safely, and I will. I owe her that," Michael said, staring at Joseph without backing down.
"Then I'll say it one last time too, Megan is not here," Joseph said.
"Fine, if you won't admit it, I'll find her myself," Michael said, waving his hand. Then EchoReach's people began to storm the estate.
