Chapter 1169 Joseph, I lost
Marcus got it right away. "Wyatt's your guy?"
"Wrong. Wyatt's always been my guy." Joseph pulled up a chair and sat down slowly, staring at Marcus like he was a dying mouse. "You used Athena to steal the Hernandez Group's chip data. Athena was a disgrace to Dragon. You thought Wyatt would betray everything for her, and by winning her over, you'd get Wyatt too."
Marcus had been hiding for decades, thinking he had everything under control, but now he felt a panic like never before.
"Wondering why Wyatt, who loves his kid so much, would ignore him?" Joseph raised an eyebrow. "Because Athena betrayed you long ago. Someone who betrays once can do it again. Dennis has been Athena's lover for a while, even with her being pregnant. Dennis has quite the taste. Now, thanks to Athena, I know all the Chamberlain family's dirty secrets."
Marcus's breathing quickened, and fear replaced his once composed face.
"Seems you know how much dirt the Chamberlain family has." Joseph stood up, hands in his pockets. "The Chamberlain family and the Chapman Group started an investment company, but the Chamberlains have been cooking the books, colluding with Henry to erode the Chapman Group and manipulate its shares. You also stole the Hernandez Group's chip data and made a secret deal with the Lundrigans Group, a foreign company. Do you know what that means? As a Madison native, you handed over a locally developed product to a foreign company. That's treason. You know the consequences."
Marcus collapsed, trembling uncontrollably as he looked up at Joseph.
After a moment, he knelt in front of Joseph. "Joseph, let me go. I'll give you everything—money, jewelry, even the Chamberlain Group. You can be the richest man in Madison again."
Marcus knew his actions were punishable by death.
Joseph sneered, eyes burning with anger. "You think I don't know you killed Liam?"
He grabbed Marcus by the collar and punched him hard. "You had Athena throw Liam into the sea. You pretended to be Liam's father, making Liam and me, real brothers, fight each other. You forced my real father to leave Madison, leaving me an orphan. You killed my grandma. Let you go? It's a miracle I haven't killed you myself."
Joseph kicked and stomped on Marcus.
Marcus, in his fifties and used to a life of luxury, was no match for Joseph. Soon, he was beaten to a pulp, his face swollen beyond recognition.
Joseph stepped on his face. "Weren't you proud when you took over the Hernandez Group? When my mom came to see you, how did you humiliate her at the Chamberlain Group's entrance? No matter what mistakes my mom made, it's not your place to humiliate her. Don't you treasure your son, Hugo Chamberlain, the one you had with Penelope? I have a hundred ways to make him suffer."
"No." Marcus looked up, eyes pleading. "Joseph, I lost. I'm no match for you. But Hugo's innocent. Please, spare him."
"Spare him? Who spared Liam?" Joseph shouted, his voice filled with pain. "Wasn't Liam innocent too? He called you 'Dad' for years, and you still killed him."
Marcus, nearly suffocating under Joseph's foot, clutched desperately at Joseph's leg. "Hugo is only four."
"If you want him to live, go to prison and confess everything. Then I'll spare Hugo." Joseph grabbed Marcus by the hair, lifting him up and coldly whispering in his ear.
"Okay." Marcus nodded, defeated.
"Oh, and your nephew Felix, the one you groomed to take over. He went to Yugrot to meet the Garrison Group's chairman, right? He won't be coming back." Joseph's voice was emotionless.
Marcus's eyes widened. Felix was his carefully chosen successor.
Joseph continued, his tone icy. "The real mastermind behind the Garrison Group is my dad, Cameron, the one you tried to have killed abroad."
Marcus's blood-stained lips moved slightly, and after a moment, he laughed bitterly.
He finally understood where he had lost and why Joseph rose so quickly.
Marcus had spent decades becoming the richest man, only to be brought down by Joseph and Cameron, dragged into an abyss he couldn't escape.
Joseph turned and opened the bedroom door. The police came in and arrested Marcus.
Joseph walked down the stairs.
In the courtyard, Cameron stood with his back to him, smoking a cigarette.
"Dad, we finally avenged Grandma and Liam," Joseph said softly as he approached.
"Yes, but they will never come back." Cameron took a deep drag on his cigarette, looking up at the stars, his eyes red.
Joseph's throat felt tight and dry. Despite their revenge, he didn't know what to say.
"Dad, let's go to the hospital to see Mom. She's seriously hurt," Joseph suggested.
"No. I don't want to see her." Cameron turned and walked away, hands in his pockets.
"Dad, you still care about Mom, don't you? Otherwise, you wouldn't have rushed in with the police to save her tonight," Joseph said suddenly. "And you wouldn't have let Marcus go when he took her hostage."
"You're overthinking it. I knew Wyatt was undercover with Marcus."
"But no one knew if Wyatt would get to Marcus in time. If Marcus hadn't come here, we might not have caught him so easily," Joseph interrupted. "It's been decades, and you haven't remarried."
"Someone like me, living with hatred, has no right to remarry." Cameron sighed deeply. "Forget it. That short marriage made me lose all interest in marriage. The rift between Mabel and me can never be bridged."
With that, Cameron walked away.
