Chapter 1577 Peace of Mind
Michael said, "I won't leave Maeve to Megan. You can send Maeve to Whispering Pines Manor."
Michael looked at her for a moment and said coldly, "But since you don't have time to take care of Maeve, I've decided to get Maeve's custody back. I know you won't like it, but when I get to Madison tomorrow, I'll file a lawsuit in court. I once had no chance of winning, but now it's different. Your family isn't in Whisperlyn City, and you're not around Maeve either. For Maeve's mental health, the judge will definitely grant me custody."
Laura was trembling with anger. "I'm just on a business trip for two months. What about you? You manage several companies and are often on business trips and social engagements."

Laura felt a chill all over her body, her eyes were filled with unprecedented hatred. "Michael, you know how important Maeve is to me. I never hurt Megan. Why can't you show me a little mercy and stop pushing me like this?"
"Who's pushing whom?" Michael retorted.
Michael didn't look back at her, or maybe he didn't dare to.
He walked away without turning back.
Laura was so angry that she burst into tears.
She didn't know what to do. Her only thought was that she couldn't let Michael take Maeve away.
Just as she was panicking, Arabella suddenly called her. "Laura, help! Michael's parents just came and took Maeve away. Oh my God, Maeve was crying so hard."
Laura's heart almost shattered with despair. The worst situation she once imagined had come true.
"Arabella, don't worry. I'll be back right away," she blurted out.
No matter what, she couldn't let Michael get custody. She didn't want her daughter to be ruined by Megan.
Laura quickly dialed Cassie's number. "Cassie, Maeve was taken away by the Jude family. Michael said he wants to fight for custody. I have to go back to the country immediately."
"Laura, you can't go back," Cassie said calmly, "If you leave, it means giving up this training. In Selaestan, they value time and credibility highly. If it's known to others, those professors will have a bad impression of you, which won't be good for your future studies. Moreover, you're the core member of the DreamDazzle Beauty Co. research team. I think Michael not only wants to get Maeve's custody but also wants to force you to return, hindering DreamDazzle Beauty Co.'s product development."
"I've anticipated what you said. I didn't expect him to be so despicable, but I can't lose Maeve," Laura said painfully.
"Derek promised you he would take good care of Maeve. Have you asked him?" Cassie interrupted her.
Laura was stunned. "He's probably at work now, and once it goes to court, the judge will indeed rule that I can't take care of my daughter because I'm on a two-month business trip."
As she was speaking, Derek's call came in. "Cassie, let me take Derek's call first."
Laura answered the call, and Derek's voice was as gentle as ever. "Arabella just contacted me. She said you want to come back. Laura, don't worry. I'll get Maeve back for you. Focus on your training over there."
Somehow, Laura's panicked heart seemed to find a pillar of support and gradually calmed down. "Derek, Michael just came to see me. He said he wants to apply for custody. I'm out of the country, and I might not have a chance to win."
"Then let him sue," Derek laughed calmly, "Laura, on the day you left for training, I anticipated that Michael would find out Maeve was left at the Presidential Palace sooner or later. I'm someone who likes to plan ahead. If he really sues, I believe he'll give up before the trial because he can't possibly win."
Laura was stunned. "Why?"
Derek explained softly, "Because Megan often abuses animals in private. I have a lot of evidence. Considering his wife's condition and the child's safety, the judge won't grant him custody."
"How do you know that?" Laura was shocked.
"I've had someone watching Megan all this time. She's always been a ruthless person. After she became disabled, she was diagnosed with psychological trauma. Michael had her on medication for a while. On the surface, she seemed better, but she was just hiding it. When she's in a bad mood, she secretly abuses stray cats and dogs in very cruel ways," Michael said.
"That's terrifying," Laura was horrified. "Aren't stray cats and dogs lives too? Does Michael know that?"
"He definitely doesn't," Derek said calmly, "That's why he's confident in suing. When he comes back, I'll naturally take the evidence to him. He's a smart man; he'll give up."
Upon hearing this, Laura was completely relieved. "Derek, you're amazing. I admire you so much. It seems like no matter how big the problem is, you can easily solve it. I really admire you."
If Derek were by her side, she would definitely give him a big kiss.
She didn't know when it started, but Derek seemed to have become her haven, shielding her from the storm.
"Alright, don't worry anymore. Focus on your training. I'll handle everything about Maeve, okay?" Derek's voice was gentle.
"Alright," Laura took a deep breath. "By the way, Derek, those stray cats and dogs are also pitiful. We can't let Megan abuse them anymore."
"I'll take care of everything," Derek replied.
With Derek around, she believed any problem would be resolved.
When Laura spoke to Cassie again, she had regained her composure.
"Laura, I thought about it. If it comes to court, let Joseph be your lawyer. He'll definitely win," Cassie said.
"No need. Derek has already gathered evidence of Megan abusing animals. Michael won't win," Laura replied cheerfully.
Cassie was surprised for a moment, then laughed, "Derek is really amazing. He anticipated everything."
"Yes," Laura's heart was sweet as her boyfriend was praised. "Derek is really great. I feel like I don't deserve him."
