Chapter 1631 Jealousy
Laura felt the same way.
Her pretty little face scrunched up in frustration.
Derek looked at her and remembered Michael saying he loved her earlier, which made him a bit nervous.
She was doing well. She now lived outside, her parents were around, and Maeve was being taken care of. Her world after work would be freer, and it was inevitable that more excellent suitors would appear.
He didn't take Michael seriously, but he wasn't arrogant enough to think there were no better men than him in the world.
Take Noah, for example, who was at the same table earlier. He was from the same hometown as Laura, had a successful career, and was currently single.
"What's wrong?" Laura asked, puzzled when she saw him suddenly stop talking.
"Nothing."
Derek shook his head with a smile.
After the banquet, Derek left with the gemstone.
Luke invited the guests to his villa to play. Joseph and Bernice had work, so only Cassie and Noah went.
In the evening, Luke had Elliott book a private room for the young people to have fun. Maeve was being looked after by them.
Since moving to the Presidential Palace, Laura hadn't had much fun. Now that her parents were taking care of the child, she felt at ease and readily agreed.
After dinner, when Laura went upstairs to change clothes, Rose came in, smiling and in a good mood. "I just heard that Noah broke up with his girlfriend a few days ago and is now single."
Laura almost got her finger caught in the zipper in surprise. "Mom, what are you trying to say?"
Rose said meaningfully, "Noah is from Silverwood like us, the Collins family is well-off, Noah himself is ambitious, and he looks good. More importantly, he has a good character. I see you two get along well. What do you think?"
She had no thoughts about it.
"Mom, you're overthinking. I see Noah as a friend, and he sees me the same way. Besides, I'm not interested in dating right now."
"I'm not rushing you into a relationship. You can get to know each other slowly," Rose said seriously. "You're still young. You can't be defeated by a failed marriage. As you get older, you'll need someone to accompany you."
"Alright, alright, I get it. But please don't overthink it. There's nothing between Noah and me."
Laura quickly slipped away.
When she arrived at the club, Joseph and Lucas were also there.
Elliott was a reserved and quiet person who hadn't touched the microphone since he came in.
Joseph was there to accompany Cassie, and Lucas was called over by Noah.
So, only Laura and Cassie took turns singing in the private room.
After singing a few times, Laura got a bit annoyed. "You guys are just sitting here doing nothing. Come sing! Are you here to be decorations?"
"Exactly," Cassie said angrily. "What's the point of just the two of us singing?"
"Honey, I don't like singing," Joseph said helplessly, pinching her hand.
"Alright, alright, I'll sing with you," Noah said generously, coming over.
After the drinks arrived, everyone got happier, and the atmosphere improved a lot.
When Noah sang, Cassie praised, "Noah sings well."
Laura pouted, "Do you know what my mom said when I left? She actually wants to set me up with Noah."
"Your mom has good taste," Cassie said. "Honestly, if you weren't with Derek, Noah would be a good choice. Among Joseph's friends, I actually admire Noah the most. Despite his casual talk, he's down-to-earth and approachable. More importantly, he was the only one who stayed rational when facing Megan back then."
"I know that." Laura nodded.
Back when Joseph's memory was altered by hypnosis, only Noah consistently supported her and Cassie, even distancing himself from Michael and the others later.
If it were other men, even if they thought Michael and Lucas were wrong, they might turn a blind eye to avoid offending these connections.
But Noah didn't, which showed he had a sense of justice.
This was something Michael, Joseph, and Lucas all lacked.
"I still remember when we were bullied by Olivia and VelvetDream Cosmetics, it was Noah who helped us," Laura said sincerely. "If it weren't for Derek, I might really consider Noah."
Cassie glared at her unceremoniously. "Don't act like Noah would be with you just because you consider him. Has he ever shown any interest in you? Does he treat you any differently than he treats me?"
"Are you really my good friend? You're such a downer."
Laura deliberately pinched her, and the two of them laughed and played around.
It wasn't until Derek called that Laura stopped.
She took her phone to the balcony.
"Took you long enough to answer," Derek said plaintively. "What are you doing?"
"Singing at the club with Cassie and the others," Laura said, just as Noah's singing came from inside.
"There's a man there," Derek said in a strange tone. "He sings well."
"It's Noah singing."
"You guys are close?" Derek's tone unconsciously deepened.
Laura didn't think much of it. "We're okay. Noah helped us a few times back in Silverwood."
She said "us," but Derek heard it as "me."
"I chatted with him a bit at lunch. He's quite cheerful, funny, and good-looking."
"Yes, he is."
Laura thought he was genuinely praising Noah and agreed.
"Laura, come sing! This is a duet; I can't sing it alone," Noah suddenly shouted from inside.
"Okay, okay."
Laura mumbled, covering the phone and whispering, "I'll text you when I get back tonight."
"Alright."
She didn't notice Derek's voice getting even lower.
The group partied until after eleven at night.
Laura had a bit to drink and was slightly tipsy when she left. Elliott helped her into the car.
As she got in, Noah, still not satisfied, said, "Laura, let's hang out again next time. You can hold your liquor and sing well."
"Sure, no problem."
Laura waved her hand cheerfully.
Noah climbed into Lucas's car, planning to crash at Lucas's place tonight.
"You and Laura seem close," Lucas, who had also been drinking, suddenly said as they sat side by side in the back seat. "You don't like Laura, do you? I noticed Luke and Rose were quite warm to you today."
