Chapter 536

A mere ten minutes later, Joseph's voice echoed from the other end of the line, "Darling, why haven't you responded to my message on Facebook?"

Cassie wanted to continue her charade of ignorance, pretending she hadn't seen the message, but her simmering anger wouldn't allow her to keep up the act. "I don't want to respond," she retorted.

Joseph's confusion was palpable. "What's wrong? Did someone at the company upset you?"

"It was you who upset me," Cassie shot back, her voice laced with anger. "Why did you let Nathan become the CEO of the Zenith Family? You know very well that Nathan humiliated me at the bar before, and it was him who did those terrible things that made me almost get killed by Brandon. As long as Megan says something, even if this person does something bad, you will help him. Have you forgotten what you promised me before? You won't care about him anymore."

Joseph's response was strained, the beginnings of a headache evident in his voice. "I started targeting the Zenith Family mainly because of Nina..."

"Forget it," Cassie interrupted. "Before, you were acting like you wanted to destroy the Zenith Family, but it's all because Megan came back. It must be her who begged you. If Megan begs you, you agree; if I beg you, it's useless. Who is your wife in the end?"

" Cassie, are we going to argue again?" Joseph asked, his voice weary.

"Then why do you always make me angry? Will you die if you stop caring about the Zenith Family?" Cassie's voice was sharp, her anger palpable. She hung up the phone, a bitter realization settling in her heart: she couldn't compare to Megan in Joseph's heart.

She almost succumbed to the sadness, almost let the tears fall, but this time she didn't want to shed tears for him anymore. It wasn't worth it.

Later that afternoon, she went to the hospital to visit Leo. Dr. Angelino greeted her with some good news, "Your father should wake up in about two months."

"Really?" Cassie's heart soared. This was the best news she had received in these past few days. She had never missed Leo so much before, and now she really hoped he would wake up, at least she would have a family member to rely on.

"Dad, wake up soon, I am having a tough time now, and I miss you a lot," Cassie whispered, tears falling on Leo Chapman's hand. Unbeknownst to her, Leo Chapman's hand moved slightly in response.

After her visit with Leo, Cassie made her way to William's ward. As soon as she entered, she saw William struggling to bend over and fetch a water bottle.

"Uncle, let me help you," Cassie rushed over to assist. "I am Nina's friend."

"Thank you," William Zenith accepted somewhat embarrassedly.

A moment later, Cassie filled the water into the bottle and asked, "Uncle, why are you alone? Where is Auntie, and the caregiver?"

"The caregiver didn't come this morning, and your aunt went back in the morning to pack things. She said she would transfer me to Madison for treatment, but she hasn't come, and I can't reach her on the phone," William said anxiously. "Unfortunately, I can't go back home in my current state. Otherwise, I would have wanted to find her myself. Luckily, Laura came earlier, and I asked her to go find Nina's mother."

Suddenly, Cassie remembered the day Nina urgently urged her and her husband to leave and had a bad premonition. "Don't you still have a son? And Megan, she's back too. Hasn't she come to take care of you?"

"Megan?" William was stunned. "Isn't she dead?"

"You don't know that she's alive. I even saw her," Cassie was speechless. Her father had been in the hospital for a few days, and Megan had the time to attend Joyce's funeral but didn't bother to visit her biological father. Even if he remarried, it shouldn't be like this.

"I honestly didn't know," William shook his head helplessly, with a bitter smile. "Never mind, both my son and daughter are like strangers to me. Fortunately, I had foreseen this. Only Nina and her mother can rely on. It's a pity about Nina..."

As he spoke, tears welled up in his eyes. "I told Nina that she couldn't handle it in the afternoon and asked her to sell the company. The whole family should leave this place. I didn't expect something to happen as soon as I turned around."

Cassie hesitated for a moment before asking, "Uncle, do you know that Nathan has taken over the Zenith family now?"

"Nathan?" William Zenith was astonished and shook his head repeatedly. "What ability does this wicked child have to manage the Zenith family? My biggest regret in this life is giving birth to this son. He has done so many bad things, yet he hasn't been imprisoned. If he becomes the president, he will definitely become even more outrageous."
