Chapter 1373 I'm Tired

Rose said, "Maeve's just not used to the new place, and Michael's usually the one who takes care of her. I guess she wants him to hold her."

"Mom, don't even mention him." Laura snapped, just hearing Michael's name made her blood boil. She felt a pang of resentment looking at Maeve in her arms. "You really want that jerk Michael? He only took care of you for a bit. I carried you for nine months and gave birth to you."

Maeve seemed to get the vibe and started wailing even louder.

"Why are you blaming Maeve? She's just a baby."

Rose quickly scooped Maeve up, trying to calm her down.

Laura plopped down on the bed, looking worn out and lost.

She had no clue how her life had spiraled into this mess.

With Rose's gentle coaxing, Maeve finally dozed off.

After laying Maeve on the bed, Rose said, "Michael's at the door."

"Don't let him in." Laura exploded like a firecracker, "I never want to see him again. Why is he even here? Does he want to take Maeve away? Maeve is my kid, I'll raise her."

"He didn't say he wanted to take Maeve, but if he really fights you for her, can you win? The whole Jude Family's got his back," Rose sighed.

Laura looked at the sleeping Maeve, feeling torn apart. Before becoming a mom, she never got the pain of losing a child. Now, just thinking about losing Maeve in a divorce made her heart ache.

"Mom, you go rest," Laura said softly, needing some time to chill.

After Rose left, Laura didn't sleep either.

She just missed the old days, the clueless but passionate teenager she used to be.

Over the years, Laura felt drained after everything she'd been through.

Especially in the middle of the night when Maeve started crying again.

No matter how much Laura and the nanny tried to calm her, nothing worked.

With Maeve's hysterical crying ringing in her ears, Laura was on the verge of breaking down, holding her head in her hands.

The nanny whispered, "Maybe we should let Michael in. I heard from the security guard that he's been waiting outside and hasn't left."

Laura was stunned.

After a few seconds of silence, she walked out with Maeve in her arms.

Michael was leaning against the wall, looking half-asleep, when the electric gate behind him suddenly opened.

He turned around, and there was Laura, wearing a pearl-colored silk nightgown that hugged her figure in the night breeze. Maeve was in her arms, crying and whimpering, her voice almost gone.

"What's wrong with Maeve?" He hurriedly took the child from her.

Miraculously, Maeve stopped crying as soon as she was in his arms and even started to smile.

At that moment, Laura felt crushed.

Maybe because Laura had held her less while recovering, Maeve had become super attached to Michael.

Even though Michael had once wanted Laura to have an abortion, even though he had once hated this child.

But Maeve didn't know any of that. Maeve was like a blank slate.

After Maeve was born, she remembered whoever treated her well.

The nanny sighed, "It's because Michael wasn't around."

Michael kissed Maeve's little cheek, his heart melting.

His little darling was so precious.

"See, the kid needs me," Michael said, raising his eyebrows with that smug look.

Laura glared at him, feeling a surge of anger. She snapped, "Since Maeve likes you so much, why don't you just take her with you?"

She turned and stormed back into the villa.

After all, she felt like just a baby-making machine, just a feeding tool.

How much affection could Maeve really have for her?

Michael was stunned and quickly followed her. "Laura, what do you mean? We're fighting, but don't drag Maeve into it. She's innocent. Besides, what kid can be without their mom? If she leaves you today, she'll cry just as hard."

Something in his words hit Laura's breaking point, and she suddenly broke down in tears.

She turned and shouted, her eyes filled with tears, "Do you think I want to leave her? But what can I do? Should I force myself to stay with you for her sake? I'm tired of this. I can't give her a complete family anymore. Your family is so powerful, I can't fight it. I don't want to continue this marriage. I'm exhausted."

Michael looked at her red, tear-filled eyes, completely at a loss.

She was crying again.

She just wanted to divorce him, even if it meant giving up the child.

Michael's heart ached.

He didn't know if it was because of her decision or her tears.

He just felt terrible.

Maeve seemed to sense her parents arguing and started crying again.

The nanny advised, "Don't argue in front of the child. It's not good for her. Talk about it tomorrow."

Laura, feeling sorry for Maeve, told the nanny, "Let him and the child sleep in the guest room. Bring all of her things over."

With a hoarse voice, Laura turned and left.

Michael watched her disappearing figure before slowly following.

Maeve quickly fell asleep in his arms.

But he couldn't sleep; he just kept staring at her sweet, sleeping face.

After a long time, he took a picture of Maeve and sent it to Laura: [Look how peacefully Maeve is sleeping. Don't you want to see her like this all the time? Today was my fault. I shouldn't have said those things in public. Please don't be mad. For Maeve's sake, let's give her a complete family. I promise I'll change.]

But his message went unanswered for a long time.

Upstairs, Laura saw the message, saved Maeve's photo, and then deleted the message.

He would change?

He said the same thing when he made her so angry that she went into premature labor. Who would believe that?

Actually, she and Michael didn't have any major conflicts.

Now that Megan was gone, his personal life was quite good.

But Laura just felt that this marriage made her exhausted.

She really envied Cassie. Even though she and Joseph had been through so much, at least they loved each other.

But she and Michael had no love at all.

She took out Maeve's photo and looked at it again and again, her eyes blurring with tears.

Since giving birth, Laura seemed to cry more easily. She was frustrated.

The next day.

Laura didn't come out of her bedroom until ten.

As soon as she opened the door, she heard Maeve's laughter.

She forced herself to ignore it and went straight to the dining room for breakfast. The food tasted like cardboard in her mouth.
