Chapter 953 Joseph Was Ruthless

Cassie suddenly remembered that time with Spencer, and she felt awful. "You cut off Liam's finger?"

Joseph felt terrible, thinking, 'Does Cassie see me as just a madman who cuts off people's fingers?'

As Joseph stayed silent, Cassie angrily said, "Joseph, I don't believe Liam leaked the Hernandez House data. He's not that kind of person."

"You don't believe that?" Joseph felt a surge of anger.

Joseph thought Cassie had never trusted him, yet she was so concerned about Liam.

"Cassie, don't be so naive. Just because Liam helped you once, you believe him? He's Marcus's son. Marcus could hide in our Hernandez family for over twenty years. Both of them are very cunning. It's because I trusted Liam that the Hernandez House ended up like this," Joseph remarked.

"I believe Liam is different from Marcus," Cassie said. Maybe no one believed in Liam now, but she truly felt that Liam wasn't that heartless.

She thought, 'During those years abroad, Liam genuinely helped me. I knew that Liam felt guilty for using me before, but the fact that he felt guilty shows he isn't bad. Since Liam acknowledged Sophia as his daughter, he genuinely treated her well. Even though he knew Sophia was Joseph's daughter, he took care of her wholeheartedly. If Liam coveted the Hernandez House, he could have used Sophia against Joseph. But he didn't.'

"You don't understand." Joseph was stung by Cassie's words. "I reviewed the surveillance footage. The timing of Liam's entry into the lab aligns perfectly with the deletion of the data. If it wasn't Liam, then who could it be?

Cassie felt a bit confused by what she heard.

Joseph said coldly, "I didn't send him to the police station, just broke one of his legs. I was kind to him."

"What? You broke Liam's leg?" Cassie was shocked.

Joseph's lips were tightly pressed. He hadn't used full force, so Liam could still recover. But he didn't want to explain too much to Cassie.

"Do you expect me to just beat Liam up and then let him return to the Chamberlain family to take over everything from Marcus? Since Liam dared to harm the Hernandez House, I had to cut off his retreat. The Chamberlain family's future won't be controlled by a cripple."

Cassie felt horrified, but she no longer had the energy to scold Joseph. "Is Liam still in Dragon?"

"I had someone throw Liam out." As soon as Joseph finished speaking, the call was disconnected.

Joseph irritably looked at the phone. He couldn't understand why Cassie cared more about Liam than him. After all, he and Cassie were closer, had a child together, and had been married.

In a low, shabby alley in Whisperlyn City.

After a black SUV came to a stop, Wyatt dragged the pain-stricken Liam out and threw him to the ground.

Wyatt didn't look back and quickly drove away.

Sitting in the passenger seat, Athena glanced at Liam in the rearview mirror. Liam now looked pitiful, covered in wounds and bloodstains.

"Wyatt, do you think Liam's leg will be crippled?" Athena asked softly.

"He should be able to walk slowly. Mr. Hernandez held back a bit." Wyatt frowned, then looked at Athena helplessly. "Why did you insist on coming along for such a bloody task?"

"I miss you. You've been busy these past two days," Athena said, cradling her belly, "And our baby misses you, too."

Wyatt's heart softened at the sight. He reached out to touch Athena's head and finally made up his mind, saying, "Next week, I'll resign and leave Dragon."

Athena's eyes lit up. "Really?"

"Yes, the Hernandez House is a thing of the past. Its glory can't last forever. Running an organization as big as Dragon requires money, and I doubt Mr. Hernandez can sustain it for long," Wyatt said. "We'll find a place to live a normal life."

"Okay, thank you, Wyatt. By the way, can you stop at the corner up ahead? I want to do some shopping," Athena asked.

"I can't go with you because I still need to report back to Mr. Hernandez," Wyatt said reluctantly.

"I understand, just make it quick. Don't linger," Athena blew Wyatt a kiss.

After Wyatt drove away, Athena immediately got into a black car parked nearby. She went back to the same secluded alley.

Liam had regained some consciousness, but with no one around, he could only crawl slowly on the ground.

After a long while, just as he was about to lose consciousness again, a car stopped in front of him, and a woman stepped out.

Liam recognized her as Athena, also a member of Dragon.

"Liam, sorry about earlier. I got a call from Mr. Hernandez. I need to take you somewhere else." Athena opened the trunk and struggled to throw Liam inside.

Liam desperately pounded on the back. He had a bad feeling about where Athena was taking him, but he couldn't afford to pass out.

Every time he was about to lose consciousness, he pinched the wound on his kneecap to stay awake.

An hour later, the car finally stopped.

Athena opened the trunk and smiled slightly. "You're still awake."

"What are you going to do?" Liam looked around and realized they were on a cliff by the sea. A wave of terror surged through him.

"Of course... I'm going to throw you off," Athena said, dragging Liam out of the car.

Liam struggled to get up, trying to escape with his one barely functional leg, but Athena quickly kicked him to the ground.

In the past, Athena wouldn't have been a match for Liam, but he had just been beaten by Joseph, his spleen injured, and one leg crippled. Now, Liam was easily manipulated.

"Athena, how dare you. My dad is Marcus. Even if Marcus has an illegitimate child, I'm still his son. If I go missing, he'll come looking for me," Liam shouted at her in desperation as if Marcus was his only valuable reliance now.

"Liam, sorry, but you betrayed the Hernandez House. I have to obey Mr. Hernandez's order. Originally, Joseph just wanted to cripple one of your legs, but he got angrier halfway through and told me to throw you into the sea," Athena said, dragging Liam by one leg towards the sea.

Liam's mind went blank. With one leg crippled, being thrown into the sea would mean certain death.

He thought, 'Joseph is too ruthless. How could he be so cruel?'

An endless wave of hatred and despair surged from his chest, but suddenly, Liam felt something was off.

"Wait, if Joseph wanted to harm me, he wouldn't let a woman do it. Athena, you betrayed Dragon; you betrayed the Hernandez family, didn't you?" Liam asked.

Athena turned back and looked at Liam with a sinister expression.

Liam glared at Athena. "You stole the Hernandez House data, didn't you? You're a member of Dragon. You were there guarding the lab that day. You framed me. You were bought off by the Chamberlain family, right?"
