Chapter 242
"Helen's voice was choked with sobs as she cried out, ""That monster is accusing me of murdering your grandmother, Olivia. You must take care of yourself!""
With that, Helen was swiftly taken away, leaving Olivia alone and devastated. She sank to the floor, her world shattering around her. For over two decades, she had weathered the hardships of life in a rural town. Barely a year had passed since she returned to what she believed was her rightful home.
If something were to happen to Robert and Helen, how could she ever assert her rightful position as the lady of the Brooks family?
She refused to be knocked back to the beginning.
In a state of panic, she dialed Andrew's number. ""Andrew, please,"" she begged, ""I need your help. My parents have been arrested. I'll do anything - marry you, even share my stake in Peace Group with you, if you'd only help me.""
""Olivia, it's painfully obvious now. Anyone who involves themselves with you is cursed,"" Andrew retorted, his voice seething with anger. ""First it was Arthur Lewis, and now your parents are behind bars. You've tarnished my reputation as well. Stay away from me, I can't stand the sight of you!"" With that, he ended the call abruptly.
Olivia was left stunned, struggling to understand how her life had spiraled out of control so quickly.
All of this was Cassie's doing!
She had ruined everything, pushing Olivia to the edge.
Why couldn't Cassie just die?
A wild, desperate look filled Olivia's eyes.
Just then, her phone buzzed with a string of incoming messages. An unfamiliar number had sent her several photographs.
She opened them, shocked at first, then overwhelmed with a surge of joy.
The photos were of Cassie and David, intimately entwined - images from the night at the bar when she had tried to drug Cassie. Her original plan was to have the bodyguard assault Cassie, but David had interfered, ruining everything, including obtaining the footage from the VIP room. And now, those photos were in her possession.
With these pictures, how could Cassie possibly remain with Joseph?
Cassie's reputation as a director of Peace Group could also be damaged.
With a sense of urgency, Olivia quickly dialed a journalist's number...
---
By nine in the morning, the town was covered in the previous night's snowfall, transforming it into a pristine, white wonderland.
When Cassie awoke, she found herself alone in bed.
The troubles plaguing the Brooks family had finally been resolved, granting her a sense of peace she hadn't felt in a long time. That morning, she indulged in a much-needed lie-in.
As she reached for her phone to check the time, she was greeted by a barrage of missed calls - from work, from David, and numerous ones from Laura Miller, who had called seven or eight times alone.
She promptly returned Laura's call, greeting her friend with a light-hearted tone, ""Why on earth would you call me so many times this early? Is something wrong?""
""Wrong? You're the one in trouble, Cassie. Are you really oblivious to what's happening?"" Laura's voice was filled with urgency. ""Go check out what's trending this morning.""
Taken aback, Cassie clicked on the trending news. Her heart pounded in her chest as she read the headline blaring at the top of the list, ""Peace Group’s Beautiful CEO's Secret Rendezvous with Boyfriend Leaks.""
A chill ran down her spine as she opened the article and was confronted with a photo of her and David locked in a passionate embrace.
Despite the air conditioning, a sudden wave of cold washed over her.
""Did someone set you up?"" Laura's voice was filled with concern. ""This doesn't sound like you; you're not the type to cheat. I believe you, but others might not...""
Before Laura could finish, the bedroom door was flung open. Joseph stormed in, his handsome face twisted with rage, his eyes blazing with a fury that seemed ready to consume her."
