Chapter 1271: Grabbing Olivia by the Neck

"Got hit by a car?" Declan squinted.

"Yeah." Sophia's face went pale as she remembered. "I just wanted some cake, and then bam, the car got hit. Thank God Dad was a superhero and saved me and Oliver."

"Who did it?" Declan frowned.

"Oliver said it was that jerk Foster." Sophia's little fists clenched. "He's a real piece of work."

"Foster, huh?" Declan raised an eyebrow.

"Yeah." Sophia nodded hard, her fists shaking with anger. "He used to be all nice, but it was just a show. He's a liar, even beat up Mommy and stabbed her in the back. Gross."

"You're just a kid, how do you know all this?" Declan asked. "Did your parents tell you?"

"Oliver told me." Sophia pouted. "He's only a few minutes older, but he knows more stuff."

Declan got it.

Cassie had twins, a boy and a girl, and Oliver was the older one. "He seems to know a lot."

"Not really." Sophia huffed. "Sometimes he's a total doofus. He got tricked by Foster even more and wanted him to be our dad."

She stumbled over her words, but Declan got the gist.

The so-called jerk Foster was probably David.

Kids don't lie, and Cassie didn't feed them this stuff. Plus, he saved Sophia by chance today, so Cassie and Joseph couldn't have prepped the kids.

Only one explanation: Sophia was telling the truth.

"Sophia, where's your dad?" Declan's blue eyes softened.

"Dad." Sophia's eyes welled up, and she sniffled, "He's all messed up now, he even calls me sister."

Declan asked, "How'd that happen?"

"I dunno." Sophia looked down, sad.

Declan ruffled her hair and pressed his lips together.

Half an hour later.

The car pulled up to the Wittelsbach family villa.

The door swung open, and Sophia bolted out, crying as she threw herself into Cassie's arms. "Mommy, I was so scared."

"It's okay, baby." Cassie hugged her tight, her heart breaking. "Mommy's here, let me see you."

She let go of Sophia and checked her over, worried.

Luckily, aside from a dirty dress and messy braids, Sophia was fine. Just some marks on her arms from being tied up.

"Tell Mommy, what happened?" Cassie's voice shook.

"Mommy, those bad people put me in a bag, it was so scary." Sophia cried, her face full of fear. "They said they were gonna throw me in the pond."

Cassie's heart skipped a beat. She couldn't bear to think if Declan had been a bit late, her baby would have been thrown into the pond and drowned.

She was furious.

Were those people even human?

What chilled Cassie even more was the mastermind behind it all.

She wished Olivia dead and despised Isabella.

Even though Isabella was her biological mother, she hated her now too.

Isabella might not like Cassie and could be tricked or manipulated by Olivia—that's understandable. But if Isabella let Olivia kidnap Cassie's kid, Cassie would never forgive her.

Because that was just pure evil.

"Sophia, I'm so sorry, it's Mommy's fault for not protecting you. From now on, Mommy won't let anything bad happen to you again." Cassie looked seriously at her daughter, thinking to herself, 'Even if it means going to jail, I'll make sure Olivia, David, and Megan end up behind bars.'

Only then could her kids grow up safe.

Even if she lost her freedom and couldn't be with Joseph, she had to protect her children.

Declan watched Cassie and Sophia with a complicated expression.

He had hurt a lot of people in Neya City, but he never messed with innocent women and kids.

He also taught his son that a man should be honorable.

But right now, he felt like a villain.

Because of their presence, Cassie's once happy family lived in constant fear.

"Declan, thank you." Cassie hugged Sophia and looked at the burly Declan.

"No need to keep saying it." Declan said, glancing at the guards.

He had Carl send them over for protection. Originally, he was worried the mastermind would target Isabella, but it turned out to protect Olivia.

Cassie noticed his look and took a deep breath. "You're right, but gratitude aside, I'm curious, Declan, how did you know about this and manage to save my daughter in time?"

Declan's eyes turned cold.

Cassie bit her lip. "I never doubted you. I'm just wondering if someone around you did this."

"Go back." Declan didn't answer and walked inside.

Cassie blocked him. "Declan, I have to go in today. Yes, Sophia is safe now, but what about tomorrow, and the days after? I have two kids, and Joseph is now not himself. Only I can protect them. You have a family. You should understand how I feel."

Declan stopped and seriously looked down at the woman in front of him.

He was so tall that Cassie looked tiny, with a small frame. Her beautiful face had become haggard recently, but she stood so straight, no matter how fragile, she would protect the people she loved.

Cassie continued, "Since you saved Sophia, it means you believed what I said before. Honestly, I don't know how much you love your wife. Maybe because of Isabella, you tolerate Olivia, but love shouldn't be a weapon to hurt others."

Declan frowned.

He had managed to save Sophia on time because he had his bodyguards keep an eye on Isabella and Olivia.

When he learned from the bodyguards that Isabella agreed to Olivia hiring people to kidnap the child, he was shocked and surprised.

But as a husband, he still couldn't believe Isabella would suddenly become someone ruthless like this.

"It's not that I don't want to help."

"Declan, why are you talking to this bitch at the door?"

Isabella suddenly came out with Olivia.

The two were separated by a door, but when Cassie saw her cold expression, she felt a surge of anger.
