Chapter 814
After finishing breakfast, Cassie walked out of the Chapman's house.
Joseph immediately opened the car door and walked out. He hadn't returned home for two nights in a row. His shirt was wrinkled with a bit of stubble on his face, but that didn't diminish his handsome appearance. On the contrary, it accentuated his strong presence, even exuding a seductive charm that women liked despite the hint of gloominess.
"Did you call the police last night?" Joseph questioned and stared at Cassie with bloodshot eyes.
"Yes, you've been standing at my doorstep all night, causing me serious inconvenience," Cassie said coldly, without a hint of remorse.
"You..." Joseph vented, and his chest heaved. As a man of high status, he had never been humiliated like this by a woman before.
"Don't talk nonsense to me. I'm not your servant, Mr. Hernandez, and you're not my master," Cassie accused bluntly. "I remember telling you that if you went to see Megan the night before last, there was no need to see me again."
Thinking that Joseph had actually gone back to take a selfie and then went to see Megan, Cassie felt a deep disgust towards him.
"I... I had no choice. That night, Megan fell down the stairs and injured her leg. If I didn't go, she wouldn't seek medical treatment. After I went there, I made things clear to Megan. Look, Michael even fought me over this matter," Joseph explained.
Pointing to the injury on his mouth, Joseph feigned a pitiful look. "It still hurts."
"It serves you right," Cassie said with a cold smile.
Joseph stiffened and still braced himself to say, "Yes, it serves me right. Honey, you were right. I shouldn't have gone there."
"Who's your honey? Stop talking nonsense," Cassie grumbled. Disgusted by Joseph's address, she darted an angry glance at him.
Her bright eyes paired with delicate fair skin and rosy lips flipped Joseph's heart uncontrollably. Especially when he recalled the blowing-kiss emoji Cassie had sent him that day, he couldn't contain himself.
Today, Joseph was determined to make Cassie forgive him, even if he had to beg. Then, he could savor the taste of Cassie's kiss.
"Cassie, I've truly cleared things up with Megan. I don't love Megan anymore, and there's no chance of us getting back together or getting married," Joseph stated seriously.
Joseph held Cassie's hand tightly, his deep and dark eyes filled with sincerity.
Cassie was momentarily lost in thought.
There was a time when Joseph looked at Cassie with disdain, claiming to love Megan.
Now, hearing those words again from Joseph's mouth, Cassie wasn't moved; instead, she found it deeply ironic.
"Honey, give me another chance, please," Joseph said in a mild tone.
Thinking Cassie was touched by his words, Joseph reached out to pull her into his arms.
But Cassie's hand pressed against Joseph's chest and uttered, "Joseph, I really don't know if I should trust you again. You've hurt me too many times. I'm afraid that just when I start to have expectations of you again, Megan will call you away or threaten you with her life. We're together not for long, and you've known Megan for over ten years..."
"It won't happen, Cassie. I won't let you down again." Joseph hugged Cassie tightly and promised. "You should know me. I wouldn't say these things if I weren't sure of my feelings."
Cassie's face rested against Joseph's chest. A hint of mockery shimmered in her eyes.
Cassie knew Joseph too well. When he was in love, he could say all sorts of sweet words, which was why she kept getting hurt by Joseph and yet still got immersed in it.
But when his love faded away, he could be cold and ruthless.
"Honey," Joseph whispered, feeling a surge of thrill as Cassie remained motionless in his embrace. You owe me a kiss."
After saying this, Joseph leaned down and meant to kiss Cassie on the lips.
