Chapter 384

Joseph sat in a poised manner, his legs slightly crossed, the epitome of composure. "Recently, I've become the target of online vitriol. I'm indifferent to their opinions about me. However, when they began to slander my wife yesterday, it was more than I could bear..."

The reporter interjected, "Your wife?"

"Indeed." Joseph's lips curled into a captivating smile as he faced the camera. "The CEO of Peace Group, Cassie, is my better half."

The reporter was taken aback, "You two are married?"

"To be exact, we've been married for four months."

The reporter stuttered, "No... that's impossible."

From his pocket, Joseph produced a 'little red book'—not literally, of course, but a marriage license, complete with a wedding photo and the date clearly inscribed.

Meanwhile, in the hospital, Rosalind dropped the orange she was holding. "Miss Brooks... I mean... Mrs., you're married?"

Cassie was at a loss for words.

Yes, we're married, but isn't it supposed to be over? And yet here I am, clutching our marriage license.

Cassie felt her head spin, the reality of the situation overwhelming her.

Back on the TV screen, the reporter was equally perplexed, "But weren't you seen with Luna from the Hernandez family, Leo's ex, just a fortnight ago?"

"That’s something I've been curious about myself," Joseph retorted with a sardonic grin. "Miss Luna, if you're watching this, could you enlighten me on when we started 'dating'? Because we danced at the Hernandez family's gala? I never called you, let alone asked you out. It was clear to anyone that I was indifferent to you."

The reporter was flabbergasted, "But you were seen picking strawberries together, appearing quite cozy…"

"Oh, that?" Joseph's voice dripped with sarcasm. "I returned to the Hernandez estate and found she was there too. My grandmother insisted I join them in picking strawberries. That photo was taken out of context, to mislead the media. Those strawberries were actually a treat for my wife. And that day, I made it abundantly clear to Miss Luna to stop pursuing me."

Joseph's gaze turned frosty as he addressed the camera. "Miss Luna, due to your fabricated stories, I've been unjustly vilified by nearly everyone in Madison as a scoundrel. You know full well I never even kissed you."

The reporter's surprise was palpable. "Joseph, does the Hernandez family know about your marriage to Miss Cassie?"

Joseph shook his head. "Everyone assumed Cassie and I were merely dating, but my family disapproved. They believed she wasn't suitable for me, that she wouldn't enhance our social standing. But I didn't care. We met in Madison, and when we married, she was oblivious to my true identity. However, I can't tolerate my family's disdain for her. I've made a decision. In a month, we're having a wedding, and I'm going to publicly declare that she is the only one in my heart."

"There's more..." Joseph suddenly rose from the sofa. "That incident on the cruise, where I broke the legs of those New York high-society bullies, yes, I did that. Those men were asking for it, flaunting their power and disrespecting women. But they crossed a line when they insulted my wife. Cassie is my Achilles’ heel; I would confront the world for her."

His eyes, filled with fervor, seemed to pierce through the TV screen to where Cassie was.

Her heart pounded wildly. She had to admit, when Joseph, with his handsome and flawless face, uttered such fierce and heartfelt words, no woman could resist. Even though she knew he might just be sanitizing his playboy image in public, or crafting the persona of a devoted husband, her heart still fluttered uncontrollably, as if every word he said was true.

Beside her, Rosalind's eyes welled up with emotion. "Ma’am, I always knew Joseph only had you in his heart, and it's wonderful. You two should reconcile soon. Have a boy and a girl, and I'll help you raise them."
