Chapter 350
"So, Liam brought you here? Is that how he 'protects' you?" Joseph scoffed, a bitter sneer lacing his words. Just the thought of barely missing that drunk's sloppy kiss on her face was enough to drive him insane.
Cassie's eyes fluttered, her voice timid. "It's your family's gala. That Edward wouldn't have bothered me without reason. Someone put him up to it."
"Oh? And who might that be?" Joseph arched an eyebrow, his expression showing he knew but wouldn't say.
Cassie bit her lip. She didn't believe for a second that he didn't know. It was because of his fiancée that he looked the other way.
"I don't know." After a moment, she averted her face.
Joseph studied her quietly for a long time before he snorted, scooping up her hand and leading her upstairs.
Unseen by others, shortly after both had departed, a tall figure emerged from the shadows.
Once they were in the room, Joseph slammed the door behind them, tossing his jacket and tie carelessly to the floor.
"Cassie, haven't I been good to you? Why do you keep pushing me to the edge?" he demanded, closing in on her with anger etched across his handsome features. "Wasn't leaving David enough? Now it's Liam. Can't you stay out of trouble?"
"No, I didn't know he was taking me to the gala. He mentioned a charity event, and after he helped the Peace Group out of that bind last time, I owed him a favor."
The menace in Joseph's face sent shivers down Cassie's spine. Nightmarish flashes from that evening flooded her mind, whitening her face as tears spilled down unchecked. She dropped to her knees, clutching his hands in a plea, "Please, don't hurt me. I'm scared; I won't dare again."
Her body trembled uncontrollably, her eyes brimming with fear and panic.
Joseph's body stiffened.
Was she kneeling to him? That cheerful, cunning girl was now begging on her knees out of fear.
Just how frightened was she of him?
In a swift motion, Joseph pulled her to her feet. "Cassie, you will not kneel before me. Do you hear me? You're my woman."
"Alright, I won't kneel. I'm your woman; whatever you say goes," Cassie replied with humility.
"That's not what I meant," Joseph said, pulling her into a tight embrace. "There's no need to be scared. I've told you I won't hurt you. I was just jealous—you looked so beautiful by Liam's side. Promise me you won't see him again."
Cassie nodded obediently. "Okay, I had already planned to steer clear after repaying the favor."
"Good girl." Joseph bent down to kiss her lips, her lipstick tasting faintly of strawberries. His kiss was greedy as he contemplated, "What am I going to do with you?"
Cassie remained silent, surrendering to his kisses.
But soon, she sensed something was off and pushed him away forcefully. "Stop, the party downstairs isn't over yet, and I am not well yet."
"I know. I won't do anything. Just let me hold you." Joseph himself didn't know what got into him tonight. Perhaps he had one too many drinks downstairs, or it was just how captivating she looked tonight, but all he wanted was to hold her tight and kiss her passionately.
His strength proved too much for Cassie, and before long, she was blushing from his intense kisses.
Suddenly, the locked door burst open, and a crowd poured in.
