Chapter 1248 I Was Too Foolish

David grinned, eyeing Cassie like she was some kind of circus act.

"Can't wait for that day," Olivia chimed in, flashing a smile. "But hey, so far, she's thrown billions my way and even snagged the Hernandez group for me. She's been real good to me."

Cassie was shaking, barely holding back her rage.

Before, she had no clue who was backing Olivia, so she wasn't this mad.

Now that she knew it was Isabella, she was fuming.

"Cassie, you love snatching my stuff, don't you? The Height Architectural Decoration Company, then the Peace group. But whatever, I don't care about those anymore," Olivia said with a smirk, loving every second of Cassie's fury and jealousy. She'd waited forever for this moment.

"Olivia, I don't know what lies you've spun, but the truth will come out. I'm show everyone who you really are, piece by piece," Cassie spat, sneering. "For now, you better check the lab. If you bring the Wittelsbach folks out in one piece but come back on a stretcher, think Declan won't care?"

Olivia's heart skipped a beat, picturing Declan's stern face.

She was sure Isabella wouldn't mind, but Declan...

"Of course, he won't mind. You have no idea how much Declan cares for me," Olivia shot back, but she didn't stick around. She needed to see if Cassie was bluffing.

"Mr. Foster, let's go. I'll show you downstairs," she signaled to David.

David nodded, but as he passed Cassie, he stopped and smirked, "Sweetheart, if you come back to my bed, I can make sure Sophia and Oliver stay safe. I did watch them grow up, after all."

Cassie's eyes went ice-cold.

He dared to threaten her with Sophia and Oliver.

"David, what did you just say?" Joseph kicked David hard in the knee, making him drop.

Joseph took the chance to kick him in the back, leaving David sprawled out.

Cassie couldn't help but laugh.

"Joseph, you're dead meat," David muttered, red with embarrassment.

He got up, ready to fight back, but Joseph pulled out a wad of cash and tossed it in his face. "Oops, leg cramped. Consider this compensation."

"Sorry, Mr. Foster," Cassie said, grinning. "He probably heard you threatening kids and got so mad his leg cramped."

"Cassie, you know me too well," Joseph said with a smirk, shaking his legs. "Mr. Foster, you better leave now, or I might cramp up again and lose control."

"If I were you, I'd lay low," David said, eyes cold, before leaving with Olivia.

Cassie watched him go.

David could swallow that kind of humiliation; he was definitely a schemer and a big problem waiting to happen.

"Cassie, where'd you disappear to today? What went down?" Joseph spun her around and yanked off her mask.

When he saw her swollen face with those handprints, his eyes blazed with anger. "Did Isabella really smack you?"

He still couldn't wrap his head around Isabella being alive.

"Yeah." Cassie nodded reluctantly. "I never saw it coming. Always thought my mom was dead. First time we meet, she greets me with two slaps."

She'd kept it together before, but now, talking to Joseph, her eyes started to well up.

Joseph pulled her into a tight hug. "Cassie, a mom like that ain't worth it."

"No, at first, I thought the same. But after talking to my dad and cooling off, I think Olivia's behind this. Olivia's reaction was super weird. I don't know what she did, but she seemed way too confident," Cassie said, feeling lost.

She'd planned to meet Isabella again and explain Natalie's death and all the crap Robert, Helen, and Olivia had pulled. But Olivia's attitude made her doubt herself. 'Would Isabella even believe me?'

Joseph snorted, "No matter what Olivia did to stir the pot, as your mom, she shouldn't have bought into it so easily. She doesn't deserve to be your mother."

He didn't care about Isabella's status. Anyone who hurt Cassie was on his bad side.

Cassie was speechless.

Joseph's words hit home.

Others could mess with Isabella's head, but what about Isabella? Didn't she have any sense of right and wrong? After all, Cassie was her biological daughter.

She was also disappointed in Isabella.

"Joey, some things need to be cleared up," Cassie said sadly. "My mom's been helping Olivia keep us down. If we don't expose Olivia, we'll always be under her thumb. And David and Olivia are teaming up. From what David said, I'm worried they'll go after Sophia and Oliver."

"That's why I told you to take Sophia and Oliver and get out of here," Joseph said without hesitation.

Cassie opened her mouth, then lowered her eyes and said guiltily, "There's one more thing I forgot to tell you. I just found out Everett is actually my half-brother."

Joseph was stunned.

Cassie had mentioned the Wittelsbach family before, but he hadn't connected the dots to Everett.

"Everett approached me in Silverwood with a plan." Cassie bit her lip. "He knew my real identity all along. After the Hernandez group got investigated, I asked him for help. He said he couldn't but could ask Declan. Declan didn't agree to help me, but Carl did. At the dinner party, after Uncle James called you in, I met Declan on the top floor. He was playing chess, and I helped him turn the game around. He said he could save one life for me." She added, "I went to see him today, hoping he could save you after I left. But I didn't expect my mom to show up suddenly. That's when I realized the Wittelsbach family was behind everything. I was too foolish."
