Chapter 136

"Although Cassie had once dated Arthur Lewis, and he had been kind to her, they had never shared a bed, let alone helped each other through more intimate challenges, like dealing with menstrual cramps.
She never imagined the lofty Joseph Hernandez would do such a thing, and with such patience too. She felt slightly embarrassed to have him massage her for too long. ""That's enough, I'm not in so much pain anymore,"" she murmured.
""Quiet, sleep,"" he ordered, yet his hands remained in motion.
Cassie dared not speak again and soon, with the pain subsiding, she fell asleep.
The next morning, just after six, she tried to get up to make breakfast, but inadvertently woke Joseph Hernandez.
""What are you doing?""
""You go back to sleep; I'll make breakfast...""
""If you're not feeling well, forget about it."" Joseph Hernandez pulled her back into his embrace, his hand instinctively moving toward her lower abdomen.
""I'm fine now,"" she said, holding his hand.
""Oh,"" he mumbled, closing his eyes again. Cassie sneakily looked up at his handsome resting face—a face no woman could resist, especially when he was tender.
Something struck her heart uncontrollably, and she quietly lowered her head.

The lawsuit with the Anderson family was fast approaching.
On the day of the trial, Cassie, Joseph Hernandez, and Walter went together.
As they arrived at the courthouse, Walter parked the car and the trio got out, but Joseph Hernandez's phone suddenly rang—it was Grandma calling.
""Walter, take her upstairs, I've got to take this call,"" Joseph Hernandez said, stepping aside with his phone.
Cassie and Walter took the elevator up.
Exiting the elevator, they saw a group waiting outside the courtroom, including the Roberts, Olivia Brooks, Alexander, and from the Anderson family, Sam and his lawyer.
Spotting Cassie, Sam stormed over, his face seething with anger, ""Cassie, cherish your final moments, because after this lawsuit, you can consider your life over.""
Cassie wasn't so much angry as she was resigned; after all, she considered Sam a victim too. ""Mr. Anderson, whether you believe it or not, I had nothing to do with this.""
""Not my problem?"" Sam scoffed, ""Wasn't it you who badgered me for that project contract? You promised me a one-of-a-kind hotel, and now it's all gone to hell. I don't care how deep your pockets are or who else got their share, but you’re going to take responsibility for this mess.""

The more he spoke, the angrier he became. The Lublin Hotel fiasco had been a project entrusted to him by Mr. Anderson. Sam had poured significant time and money into it, striving to make it a success and earn his father's approval. Instead, a fire had damaged several floors and resulted in a harsh reprimand from Mr. Anderson.

Seeing the temper flare, Robert quickly let out a sigh: ""Mr. Anderson, I truly regret not supervising my daughter properly. I shouldn't have handed her such a big responsibility. Rest assured, Height Company will cover the losses completely, providing compensation and using only the best materials to make amends.""

""I expect you to keep your word. I'll have professionals inspect the work later. If there are any issues, you'll be the one behind bars next time,"" Sam said, too fed up to engage with the Brooks family any longer. He turned and walked away with his lawyer.

When Sam left, Robert's demeanor shifted instantly as he turned to Cassie, ""Cassie, you've really let me down.""

""It seems you're getting too caught up in your own act,"" Cassie retorted, her anger igniting. ""It was clearly Alexander who did this. You might not like me, but I am your flesh and blood. Can't you see that I'm worth more to you than a nephew who isn't even related by blood?""

A complex look flickered in Robert's eyes. Helen interjected, ""What nonsense are you spouting? Alexander’s hands are clean. You've tarnished Height Company's reputation with your kickbacks, and now you're trying to frame your cousin. How can you be so venomous?""

""Mom, I'm your daughter!"" Cassie screamed, her voice hoarse with emotion. Even the strongest hearts are made of flesh, ""Do you know that Alexander nearly had me killed by paying off someone in prison?""

""Hey, don't talk nonsense,"" Alexander jumped in. ""Slander is a crime. Do you have any evidence?""
