Chapter 1418 What He Had Lost Today

Laura had had enough; she couldn't keep up the charade any longer.

She didn't want to be with Michael anymore.

From the moment Michael started accusing her, Laura had lost all hope.

"There's nothing between Megan and me. Why don't you believe me?" Michael yelled, frustration clear in his voice. "I have my reasons for keeping Megan around."

"Then can you tell us what those reasons are?" In the hallway, Joseph and Lucas, both in black suits, walked over. Their handsome faces were clouded with anger.

No one expected that the three friends who had reconciled would end up at each other's throats again.

Joseph spoke coldly, "Can you tell me why you kept this from us? You knew we were looking for Megan everywhere, and you said you'd use ShadowNet Intelligence Agency to help me, but you were secretly helping Megan fool us?"

Lucas's deep eyes showed disbelief and disappointment. He clearly couldn't understand why Michael was being so foolish.

Michael faced everyone's questioning.

Michael frowned and gritted his teeth, "It won't help if I tell you more now. Joseph, give me two weeks, and you'll know the answer."

Megan said softly, "I'll stay here for the next two weeks and won't go anywhere. If you don't trust me, you can have someone guard the door."

Lucas raised an eyebrow and lit a cigarette, "What game are you playing?"

Michael said, "Because Joseph's memory will recover in two weeks. When Joseph fell down the stairs, Megan was actually treating him."

Laura was the first to laugh mockingly. Her gaze was like looking at a hopeless fool, "Do you really believe her?"

"I believe her," Michael nodded without hesitation. "If she were lying, she wouldn't let us guard her. And if she deceived me, I would be the first not to let her go. Besides, she's telling the truth."

"Michael, thank you for believing in me," Megan said, moved.

Michael patted Megan's shoulder reassuringly, his eyes gentle.

That scene left Laura feeling utterly disappointed.

Joseph, Lucas, and Cassie all frowned.

"Two weeks is enough," Michael said. "It's not that long."

"What if I refuse?" Joseph asked with a sarcastic smile.

Michael was helpless, "Joseph, David's testimony didn't mention Megan committing any crimes. Everything she did is just your imagination. You have no evidence to arrest her, and the police won't file a case. Even though my uncle likes you, you can't just arrest people in front of the Jude Family."

"Understood." Joseph forced a smile.

Joseph put his arm around Cassie's shoulder, "Let's go. Dragon's people will keep an eye on this place. Megan won't escape."

Cassie was angry, "But—"

Joseph glanced at Laura, "I think Laura has figured some things out. At least your trip today wasn't in vain."

"Joseph is right," Laura scoffed, not wanting to look at Michael again, and turned to leave.

Cassie quickly followed.

Joseph followed suit.

Lucas exhaled a puff of smoke and gave Megan a meaningful look, "Megan, you're quite something."

Lucas smirked and walked off with long strides.

As he turned, he noticed Michael still holding Megan.

Lucas knew Michael wasn't the sharpest tool in the shed emotionally, but he didn't think he was this clueless.

Sadly, Michael probably still didn't realize what he had lost today.

Laura leaned on Cassie as they walked out of the elevator.

It only took a few minutes to get from upstairs to downstairs.

But Michael didn't come after them at all.

Laura didn't know what she was hoping for in the end. Maybe she hoped Michael wasn't that foolish.

She hoped that Michael's recent displays of affection for her were at least somewhat genuine.

When they got downstairs, a cold wind blew, and Laura shivered, fully waking up.

What did she see in Michael in the first place? Did she admire how well he treated Megan, and how happy Megan was?

But Laura forgot.

She wasn't Megan.

Michael could unconditionally protect Megan, tolerate her, listen to her, and cherish her.

That was because that person was Megan.

No matter how awful Megan was, she remained an irreplaceable part of Michael's heart.

What made Laura so confident that being liked by Michael would replace his past affection for Megan?

Laura lost, and the most ridiculous part was losing to Megan.

Cassie had lost to Megan, Nina had failed miserably, and now Laura had lost too.

How did all three of them fall because of Megan?

"Laura," Cassie said worriedly, supporting her. "It's okay. He's just trash. Look at you, rich and beautiful. You can find any man you want in the future. You should try younger men. I saw a news story the other day about a beautiful female CEO who swaps young men like they're accessories, living a carefree life that everyone envies."

At this point, Cassie didn't bother comforting Laura by saying Michael would regret it.

No need. If it were Cassie, she might have directly killed Michael.

Michael had been deceived by Megan so badly before; hadn't he learned anything?

Michael was indeed extremely foolish.

Joseph, listening nearby, twitched his mouth, "Cassie, do you really envy that rich woman?"

Cassie glared at Joseph. Couldn't he see she was comforting Laura? Could he shut up? "Every woman would envy that."

Joseph caught her warning look and reluctantly fell silent.

"Do you think what Michael said just now is true?" Laura suddenly asked.

Lucas raised an eyebrow, and Joseph pondered for a moment before saying, "Perhaps. I've been having dreams lately, remembering some things from the past. I also feel like my memory is about to return."

Everyone fell silent. They actually believed it too.

Megan dared to suggest having Joseph's people watch her, clearly not planning to run and well-prepared.

"That woman is too calculating," Cassie frowned. "She must have done something to Joseph's brain. She was definitely there when Joseph fell down the stairs, and she colluded with David. I'm sure of that."
