Chapter 99
It was no doubt that Joseph was hand some, but his temper was not good.
As Cassie seeing him, she felt an instant urge to grab her bag and bolt.
"Joseph, Noah." David stood up, surprised, shaking hands with the two.
Then, he reached out to Joseph.
However, Joseph just lazily lifted his thick lashes.
After a few awkward seconds, just when David thought Joseph wouldn't shake his hand, Joseph finally did, saying, "Sorry, I’m not in the mood today."
David had dealt with Joseph a few times before, especially when he wanted Joseph to help with a business lawsuit. Things started off well, but then Joseph's firm bailed, saying they were too busy.
Honestly, David wasn't too thrilled with Joseph, but Joseph was a legend in the legal world, so he had to show some respect for they might work together in the future.
So, David smiled and asked, "Who ticked you off, Joseph?"
Joseph's long, slender fingers picked a rose from the bouquet on the table, twirling it. "Do all women like this cheesy stuff?"
Cassie had a bad feeling about this.
David's elegant face stiffened.
After all, he had just given those flowers to Cassie, and now they were being called "cheesy stuff."
David replied, "Maybe cheesy to you, Joseph, but to woman, flowers are probably a favorite."
"No wonder..." Joseph lowered his eyes, his long lashes casting a shadow. "Maybe because I don't get this stuff, my wife cheated on me."
Cassie, who was nervously sipping her juice, spat it out.
David quickly handed her a napkin.
Cassie took it, saying, "Thanks."
Joseph tilted his head, smirking coldly, "What's got you so worked up, Miss?"
Cassie bit her lip, holding back her anger, and smiled sweetly. "I think you're overreacting. Did you actually see your wife kissing another guy or sleeping with him? If not, watch what you say. Don't go around accusing people of cheating. It makes you look bad."
Joseph turned deadly serious.
The tension between him and Cassie was palpable.
David cleared his throat, quickly saying, "Joseph, Cass doesn't know any better. Don't mind her. I apologize on her behalf."
‘Cass? How cozy. Are you letting another guy apologize for you?’ Joseph let out a cold laugh.
Only Noah, who knew Joseph well, could sense the storm brewing behind that laugh. It was a sign of impending storm.
Noah quickly pulled out a chair and sat down, trying to lighten the mood. "Cass, what's your deal with Mr. Foster? You guys aren't...?"
He paused, giving Cassie a look, urging her to explain.
Cassie didn't want to be labeled a cheater, so she quickly said, "Our company took on a project for Mr. Foster's villa. We've hit some snags, so we're discussing it."
Joseph sneered internally. ‘Discussing? In a fancy restaurant?’
"Noah, do you know Cass?" David was surprised.
"Of course, Madison's a small world. We've bumped into each other at business events and dinners a few times." Noah grinned. "Since we're all here, let's eat together."
David felt pretty annoyed.
