Chapter 1384 Feeling So Lonely and Isolated

Laura suddenly felt super awkward; yeah, she did say that.

"Yep, Michael whipped up these chicken meatballs himself," the nanny chimed in. "I was gonna make him some noodles, but Michael said he didn't want you feeling bad seeing him eat better, so he's having the same as you."

Laura just stayed quiet.

Made her look totally unreasonable.

"If you don't like it, I can whip up something else," Michael stood up. "Honestly, I like you no matter what."

"Never mind, I'll just eat this."

Laura grabbed the milk and started drinking. "I still need to lose weight."

Michael watched her, speechless.

He really thought women were so extra.

But no matter how extra, she was still way better than Megan. At most, Laura just had a bit of pride. On second thought, this kind of personality was kinda cute.

After breakfast, Michael pretended to check his phone. "Let's catch a movie tonight. There's a blockbuster out now that's killing it at the box office."

Laura knew that movie; it was blowing up online recently.

She was kinda tempted, but then she thought of Maeve and held back. "Nah, we can't go together. If we're both out at night, Maeve won't be used to it. How about you go today, and I'll go tomorrow?"

Michael was not happy to hear that.

Laura, this idiot, she had the nerve to say Michael had low emotional intelligence. Who goes to the movies alone? It's supposed to be romantic for two people to go together.

The nanny chuckled, "You two should go together. The babysitter and I can handle Maeve. Besides, you both have to work in the future; you can't always be with Maeve."

"Yeah, if you're really worried, I can have my mom come over tonight. She loves taking care of Maeve," Michael quickly added. "Besides, if you let me go to the movies today, who am I gonna watch it with? Lucas has to work and entertain a bunch of women; he doesn't have time for me. And Joseph doesn't even grab a meal with me, let alone watch a movie. On second thought, I feel so lonely."

A faint sadness appeared on his handsome face.

Laura shivered; a grown man suddenly being so poetic made her feel awkward.

But Laura realized she didn't have anyone to go to the movies with either. Bernice was a big star, so that was impossible. Cassie had to take care of her kids and Joseph, so that was also impossible.

Suddenly, Laura seemed to get where Michael was coming from.

"I'll buy the tickets now," Michael said, seeing she didn't respond, and quickly booked the tickets. "Seven o'clock tonight. I'll pick you up after work."

"The tickets are bought, and they can't be refunded," Michael quickly added.

So, as Laura left for work, she belatedly realized that she and Michael were going on a date.

As soon as Laura left, Michael quickly drove to Lucas's house and dragged him out of bed.

"Are you nuts? It's only ten o'clock, and you're waking me up."

Lucas was pissed. If Michael weren't his buddy, Lucas would've killed him a thousand times over.

"Single folks always sleep late and wake up late," Michael said in a weird tone. "Dude, it's time for you to settle down."

"Forget it," Lucas said, flopping back onto the bed with a cold laugh. "What's the point of sticking with one woman for a lifetime? I'd get bored."

"Jerk," Michael muttered.

"Yeah, but those women are willing," Lucas said nonchalantly. "What do you want?"

"Oh, it's like this," Michael looked troubled. "As a guy, I think I'm too good-looking. Is there any way to make me less good-looking?"

"Are you out of your mind?" Lucas said.

"Seriously, Laura said she's jealous of my looks." Michael sighed. "And she can't even see me as a man."

Lucas snickered, "You do have a pretty face, and you always dress so flashy."

"Enough. Those male celebs dress like this too. Still, a lot of women are into them," Michael was annoyed. "And obviously, I'm way better looking than those guys."

Lucas was speechless. Why did he have to spend a beautiful morning listening to Michael brag?

"Lucas, help me. I'm going on a date with Laura tonight," Michael tugged at him. "I'm planning a candlelight dinner, followed by a movie, and then back home for some fun."

"Are you sure you'll pull it off?" Lucas looked at him, oozing confidence, and was speechless.

"Isn't that why I need your help? You're the best with women."

"You're overthinking it. I don't usually coax any woman; they come to please me," Lucas said lazily, lighting a cigarette.

"Who was it that seemed quite interested in Bernice recently?"

Lucas gave him a sidelong glance, "I just want to sleep with her."

"Jerk," Michael thought he was better than Lucas, so why wasn't he cherished?

"Let's go. I'll find a styling team to fix you up."

Lucas got up lazily.

Around five in the afternoon.

Laura had just finished talking with the CEO of a new media company, who eagerly invited her to dinner.

"No, I have to go home and be with my kid later."

Laura politely declined, and the guy didn't dare push her.

In the elevator, Laura's new secretary, Brynn Elise, smiled and said, "Being the goddaughter of the President really makes a difference. Others have to hustle to start a company, but those bosses come to you for cooperation."

Laura thought so.

Laura's status brought her many perks. With all kinds of resources coming her way, Laura now truly appreciated the benefits of a strong background.

So, God gave Laura a less-than-perfect marriage, but also opened another door for her. Laura seemed to be content; after all, you can't have everything.

As Laura was lost in thought, she suddenly heard a bunch of people exclaiming.

"Is that guy straight out of a comic book?"
