Chapter 1204 Guilt
Michael sneered. "Laura, you're pushing it. Want me to prove it right now?" He pressed her against the wall, towering over her.
Despite not being particularly strong, his presence was overwhelming, making it hard to breathe, especially with the faint scent of his post-shower freshness.
But Laura wasn't one to back down. She tilted her head up, smiling. "You sure you want to prove it to a five-month pregnant woman? If I resist, it might end badly for both of us."
Michael's bravado deflated instantly. "Laura, you got me this time. Just wait, I'll get you sooner or later," he grumbled, trying to keep his cool.
Laura scoffed, "After I give birth, I could beat you up in no time."
Michael glared at her, fuming. His gaze was so intense it seemed like he wanted to devour her on the spot. He swore that if he didn't get her in this lifetime, he wouldn't be a Jude.
"Move aside," Laura pushed him away. "Michael, I know you have no sinusitis and you're at your peak. If you want to find another woman, I won't mind. Just don't hold it in and cause yourself problems."
Michael looked at her, knowing she wasn't joking, which made him uncomfortable. "Laura, what do you take me for? Do you think I'm Lucas?"
"Is it fair to talk about Lucas like that?" Laura was a bit speechless. "You used to stay faithful to Megan, but now there's no need to stay faithful to anyone."
"If I mess around, my parents will kick me out."
"Then do it secretly, as long as they don't find out," Laura suggested. "I won't snitch on you."
"You're really considerate," Michael said sarcastically. "You should have married Lucas. One likes to goof around, and the other can tolerate it. Perfect match."
Laura got frustrated. "Do you think I like it this way? We didn't marry for love. If I married the man I loved, I'd break his legs if he even had dinner with another woman behind my back."
Michael felt conflicted. He actually wanted that kind of marriage, too, thinking a strict wife wouldn't be so bad. "You can treat me like that, too," he suddenly said.
Laura was stunned. "But I don't like you."
"You can develop feelings," Michael frowned. "I can't goof around with women. I couldn't even sleep with Megan when we were dating."
"Isn't that because Megan was too proud and didn't really like you, so she didn't let you sleep with her?" Laura asked, puzzled.
"Laura, will you die if you don't irritate me?" Michael's temples throbbed. "When we were dating, she tried to get me to stay overnight, but I refused. I'm actually a conservative person, okay?"
Laura was dumbfounded.
She stared blankly at Michael. His handsome face was slightly blushed, looking a bit embarrassed and awkward, but she found him kind of cute.
Michael snorted, trying to act proud. "I'm married now. I can't just go find another woman. Even if you agree, I can't do it."
Laura was at a loss for words. She hadn't expected his principles to be so high. "Are you just saying that to sound good?"
Feeling questioned again, Michael glared at her. "I'm serious. I'm committed to this marriage, Laura. I never thought about getting a divorce."
"What?" Laura was stunned. "Didn't we agree to wait until Carl becomes president?"
"Let me be honest. Since we're married, I'm prepared to give the child a complete family. We argue, but I don't dislike you. I've made mistakes, but I didn't sleep with other women. I want to make this marriage work, so don't think about divorce. It's not happening." Michael waved dismissively.
Laura was infuriated by his shamelessness. "Did you forget the agreement we signed before marriage?"
"Does it have a seal? Is it legally binding?" Michael asked with a sly smile.
"You're a president, for heaven's sake. Don't you have any shame?" Laura couldn't take it anymore.
"I'll be shameless just this once. What can you do about it?" Michael raised his eyebrows, seeing her furious expression, smugly put his hands in his pockets, and walked downstairs.
Laura wanted to kick him down the stairs from behind.
She took a deep breath, thinking, 'Forget it, now isn't the time to be angry about this. The urgent matter is to find Benjamin first.'
In the afternoon, she drove away from the Jude Villa.
After arriving near the Hayes Group, she called Benjamin. "I'm downstairs at your company. Can we talk alone?"
"Laura, haven't you caused me enough trouble? What more do you want?" Benjamin's voice was icy. "You're pregnant now. Do you want your husband to come and beat me up again?"
"Benjamin, this is the last time I'll look for you," Laura said in a low, sorrowful voice. "Don't worry, I'm not here to cause trouble. I want to clear up some things from the past."
"Fine."
It was probably her mention of the "past" and her tone that touched Benjamin's heart.
Laura didn't expect Benjamin to agree so quickly and was momentarily stunned.
After hanging up, she nervously called Cassie. "Benjamin agreed to meet me. What should I say?"
"Don't start by scolding him. Talk about your college days. Tell him the real reason you married Michael and make him feel guilty," Cassie advised like a strategist.
"Isn't that risky? If he tells the media, it'll be trouble." Laura hesitated.
"That's why you need to make him feel guilty. If he feels guilty, he won't say anything. Instead, he'll feel indebted to you," Cassie said with a smile.
