Chapter 1319 Surrender
Cassie hopped in the elevator straight to the parking lot, fired up the car, and peeled out of the hospital.
Lately, she felt like she had a bonfire raging in her chest, probably 'cause she'd been bottling up her feelings for way too long.
There were some things and some people she just couldn't fight. She'd thought about dodging them, but why couldn't they just leave her loved ones alone?
Grinding her teeth, she punched in Declan's number. "Declan, spill Isabella's address."
"What are you up to?" Declan frowned. "Don't do anything stupid. She's got a bunch of foreign bodyguards around her."
"I just wanna talk."
Cassie wasn't about to clue Declan in. For one, Aiden and Declan were love rivals, and for another, Isabella was still Declan's wife. She didn't wanna make things awkward for him.
"She's a mess right now. Talking won't help," Declan shot her down. "For your own good, I'm not telling you."
Cassie couldn't hold it in anymore. "If you don't tell me, will I be safe? No way. A woman as nasty as her won't let it slide."
Declan felt a pang hearing that. His beloved wife being called a nasty woman stung.
"Declan, this isn't abroad. You can't protect me here. Right now, no one can protect me and my family," Cassie said, her voice tinged with helplessness. "If my sacrifice can bring peace to my family, I'm willing to do it."
Declan felt torn and stayed silent for a long time.
"If you don't tell me, I'll find her address myself."
After hanging up, Cassie gunned it to the Hernandez Group. But as soon as she hit the entrance, the receptionist blocked her. "Sorry, Ms. Brooks, you can't go in. You're not affiliated with our company and don't have an appointment."
"What if I insist?" Cassie narrowed her eyes.
"Then we'll have to use force." The security manager rolled up with a bunch of guards, sneering. "Ms. Brooks, Joseph isn't here to back you up this time. Last time he beat us up pretty bad, and you were all high and mighty, reporting us to the president. Too bad we came back after Joseph got the boot. As long as I'm here, you're not getting through this door."
Cassie's eyes went icy, and she clenched her fists.
Suddenly, David's laugh echoed from behind. "Honey, what are you doing here? Can't even get through the Hernandez Group's door after Joseph dumped you? Oh, wait, it's not called the Hernandez Group anymore. It's the Robert Group now. Nice name, huh?"
Cassie spun around, glaring at him with disgust. "Oh, seeing you so happy, I thought it was called the Foster Group."
David pretended not to catch her sarcasm and sauntered up to her, whispering so only she could hear, "Not now, but soon."
Cassie looked up at his smug face. David wasn't even trying to hide his intentions anymore.
"Cassie, your eyes are something else," David said, staring into her once bright, lively eyes now filled with trembling hatred. That hatred gave him a sick thrill.
He reached out to touch her chin, but Cassie slapped his hand away. "Don't touch me! Gross!"
"Gross, huh?" David chuckled coldly. "Is Joseph any better? The once high and mighty Mr. Hernandez is now like a lapdog, following Marigold around every day. He thinks by pleasing Marigold, he can become the Dixon family's son-in-law? Ralph will never agree. At most, he'll be Marigold's plaything. You're the lucky one, still my wife."
"I don't care for this kind of luck, as long as you're willing to divorce me," Cassie shot back. "I advise you to finalize the divorce soon. With your status, marriage can be the best alliance."
"Haha, you're wrong. With my current status, countless high-society ladies want to please me. Even Ralph might want to marry his daughter to me, but I'm not interested. It's a real pity that I married you but never got to enjoy you."
David shamelessly ogled her.
Even in simple jeans and a shirt, Cassie couldn't hide her alluring curves. Her beautiful yet slightly haggard face evoked a sense of pity.
"Sorry, I hate dirty stuff," Cassie said, looking at him with disgust.
David's eyes turned cold, and he sneered, "You don't seem to get it. In Madison, even Mr. Jude can't touch me. By the way, Declan's attempts to suppress the Wit Group's business abroad are useless now. Yesterday, I asked your mom for a favor, and she helped me solve the problems abroad. Now, many countries are willing to cooperate with me again. Thanks to you."
He leaned closer to her ear. "Your mom is really nice. She'll do anything I ask."
Cassie was thoroughly disgusted and enraged. Every word he said stung. She couldn't bear it anymore and slapped him hard.
David grabbed her wrist, smiling. "Don't get angry. After all, it's your mom. You can't be mad at her for not helping you. By the way, your mom is quite ruthless. She always wanted revenge on Olivia. I heard she hates you so much now that she wants you to experience the pain of losing a loved one."
Cassie's eyes widened in deep disappointment. She was trembling.
David continued whispering in her ear, "As far as I know, yesterday was just the beginning. Aiden was lucky, but he won't always be so lucky to escape your mom's attempts. She has many skills and connections."
"You must have created a lot of conflicts between us in front of her, right?" Cassie's eyes were filled with despair and helplessness. "David, if it weren't for me, honestly, your company would still be just an ordinary multinational company. Would you have your current status? Don't tell me you love me. Loving someone isn't like this. You've been using me from the beginning. Isn't it enough that you've taken advantage of me? Please, I beg you to spare me. I'll stay as far away from you as possible. I won't ever expose Olivia's matter."
This was the first time she completely surrendered in front of David.
