Chapter 182
"“Stay still, babe. Let me do this,”
Cassie’s heart ached with longing.
She was so envious.
Joseph looked over, his lips curling indifferently, ""Jealous of that guy?""
Cassie stayed silent, casting a glance at the ridiculously handsome man beside her. Well, who could blame her for being superficial?
After the meal, Joseph was pampered to his heart’s content.
As he savored the last bite of his beef stew, he acknowledged that it wasn't so bad after all; he'd consider coming back for more.
After dinner, Cassie excused herself to the restroom. As she was about to push the door open to leave, she overheard the chatter of two women just outside.
""Did you see the guy at Booth 26? He's seriously hot.""
""No kidding—he makes Hollywood hunks look like amateurs. I even snapped a few pics.""
""His girlfriend though... just average.""
""Totally. She's fawning over him, serving him like a queen. But he barely even acknowledges her.""
""Ah, who wouldn't fall head over heels for a looker like that?""
Cassie was fuming inside.
Average-looking?
Me, pathetically in love?
Groveling at his feet?
Enough was enough.
She burst through the bathroom door, leaving the two gossipers stunned. Striding between them, she pulled out her lipstick.
""Me, just average?"" she retorted, expertly gliding the color across her well-shaped lips. A quick press of her lips, and she radiated glamour in an instant.
The women, visibly embarrassed, turned to leave, but Cassie wasn't done. She grabbed them, forcing a mirror confrontation. ""Take a good look at yourselves. One of you definitely overdid those fillers, stiff-faced as if your muscles are frozen, and the other, that nose job is so obvious. And yet, you still fall short compared to me. The nerve to mock my looks.""
""That's enough! We were just talking. Everyone's entitled to their opinion, and beauty is subjective,"" one woman retorted, cheeks red with shame.
""And I'm entitled to my opinion too. Your snide comments reek of jealousy. My boyfriend and I are happy, and yes, he's handsome. So what if I spoil him a bit?""
With a final disdainful huff, Cassie washed her hands and left the restroom with her head held high, though her mood for beef stew had soured.
Women have their pride and vanities, and she never anticipated being judged so harshly by strangers.
It was Joseph's fault for always demanding to be pampered, lacking any real chivalry.
Joseph, who had waited after settling the bill, noticed Cassie's stormy exit.
Her expression was dark, seething with irritation, and she even shot him a glare on her way out.
Joseph was baffled.
Once in the car, Cassie buried herself in her phone, silent.
Joseph's brow furrowed in confusion.
Falling in love, indeed a hassle.
He reached for his phone and texted his friends: “What does it mean when a woman suddenly goes silent?""
